* BreakTheHaughty: When Cinder tries killing Watts, he [[BreakHerByTalking throws the litany of her failures back in her face]], [[VillainHasAPoint pointing out]] how she's constantly being defeated by her own [[ItsAllAboutMe selfish]] entitled attitude. Instead of carrying through her threat, Cinder releases him and sits down, shedding a SingleTear.

* VillainHasAPoint: Though Watts is a very unpleasant villain responsible for a lot of death and suffering, he correctly points out that he doesn't work for Cinder and doesn't have to accommodate her whims or desires. He points out all of her ill-considered actions is because she thinks she deserves to take whatever she wants just because she has suffered a lot. By the time he's done lecturing her, she's reduced to tears, implicitly admitting he's right.

* MetaGuy: After Cinder announces her intentions to kill Watts and then forcefully seize the Winter Maiden power from Penny, Watts voices what most of the fandom have been thinking of Cinder as of late. Bursting into laughter, an unimpressed Watts sarcastically says she never changes her methodology, then he dissects her long line of spectacular failures against the heroes and Raven Branwen in the last several volumes which have left her and their entire faction worse off. Her admission about going their separate ways than stick around to help fight Salem doesn't help matters, either. Even Ruby nearly draws her weapon upon seeing her, requiring Oscar to try and calm her down.

He also is under the assumption that the group was still focused on saving Mantle while not knowing that one team was focused on rescuing one of their own from Salem and the other was recovering from a mission that had nothing to do with Mantle.

He believes that ''he'' was entitled to respect from Ironwood and was pissed off when that project and respect went to Pietro's own work. He claims that you need to be smart, but there are a number of times where his own plans fail because of his own [[SmugSnake smug arrogance preventing him from noticing the flaws of his own plans.]] and his belief that you have to be worthy as opposed to just deserving rings hollow given that ''he'' wasn't worthy enough in Ironwood's eyes back when he was still a respected Atlesian scientist.

** Cinder is prone to [[CantTakeCriticism violently react to even the smallest form of criticism]], so when her response to Watts stinging words is to break down into tears, it's a clear sign to him that his words had an effect on her.
** On Watts' end, he's so frustrated with Cinder's attitude and failures that he completely drops his trademark DeadpanSnarker attitude and ''screams'' a TheReasonYouSuckSpeech right in her face.
