* CreepyMortician: Grace Larsen certainly has her fair share of odd traits, and is also [[spoiler:the murderer]].

* GreenEyedMonster: [[spoiler: Grace Larsen’s real motivation for killing Bob White. She hasn’t been able to find work in criminal pathology since graduation, and has been stuck working as a mortician. Envious of Woody’s high-profile job, she decided to manipulate things so Woody would look like he’d screwed an autopsy up, and then swoop in to take his job.]]

* MakeItLookLikeAnAccident: The death of Bob White. It initially looks like he got drunk and passed out in front of a bus, since he had loads of alcohol in his system. However, it turns out he was allergic to alcohol, and someone killed him before dumping him in the path of the bus. [[spoiler: Turns out to be even more meta than that, though, since someone made it look like someone was making it look like an accident.]]

* MonsterFangirl: Whip Chatterly is quite a big fan of true crime, and admires murderers so much that Shawn and Gus find it a bit odd. Of course, this is exactly why [[spoiler:Grace decided to frame him for Bob's murder]].
* NeverSuicide: It initially looks like [[spoiler: Whip]] was the murderer, and he killed himself with a pistol in his car, desperate to become a part of history. Then, Woody discovers a little capsule full of incriminating evidence in the back of his throat. Meanwhile, Shawn learns [[spoiler: Whip]] sent a voicemail as he was being killed, and hears the car door shut after he was shot.
* OldShame: Penny was the bologna girl at House of Meats. She also used to do cam work. She regrets the former more than the latter.

* TarotTroubles: Whip Chatterly draws the “Death” card when he, Shawn, and Gus visit a psychic. The psychic freaks out, and kicks them all out. [[spoiler: Later, he’s found dead in his car.]]
* TheWorldsExpertOnGettingKilled: Despite his in-depth knowledge of true crime, [[spoiler:Whip Chatterly]] ends up dead.

* AloneWithTheMurderer: Woody ends up alone with the murderer in the morgue.

* CrimeReconstruction: Shawn makes Gus portray the victim when they head to the scene of the crime.

* AutopsySnackTime: CreepyMortician Grace and TheCoroner Woody feed each other strawberries and creme fraiche. It’s particularly notable, since we haven’t actually seen Woody doing this before.

* OohMeAccentsSlipping: Shawn and Gus trail Bob’s footsteps into a psychic’s office. When she learns Bob is dead, she’s so shocked that she drops her vaguely Russian accent, and admits she just uses it so clients will take her seriously.

* TarotTroubles: Whip Chatterly draws the “Death” card when he, Shawn, and Gus visit a psychic. The psychic freaks out, and kicks them all out. Later, he’s found dead in his car.

Later, it turns out some aspects of her character are put on for show, and Shawn calls her out for leaving Bob on, but that doesn’t change her initial reading of Shawn, or the TarotTroubles seen below.

* MaybeMagicMaybeMundane: The psychic proves herself by grabbing Shawn’s head and reading his thoughts. Shawn is legitimately shocked, and claims she’s the real deal. Later, it turns out some aspects of her character are put on for show, and Shawn calls her out for leaving Bob on, but that doesn’t change her initial reading of Shawn, or the TarotTrouble seen below.

* MistakenForRacist: An eyewitness questioned by Shawn and Gus is a white man who speaks with a very pronounced Thai accent. They accuse him of mocking Asians, but he explains that he was adopted by a Thai family and raised in Bangkok, so that "offensive accent" is how he actually speaks.

Woody is at risk of losing his job when a death that he ruled to be an accident seems to be a murder. Shawn and Gus try to find out what really happened, with the help of true crime enthusiast Whip Chatterly.
