** This is not the first time Starlight has used mind control, as Big Mac ("No Second Prances") and the residents of "Equal Town" can attest.

** Most of the plot glens from ''Disney/{{Fantasia}}'''s ''Sorcerer's Apprentice'' short what with Starlight using a spell she thinks will help her and it growing out her control. The castle even ends up flooded thanks to a mind-controlled Dash using storm clouds to stop the burning cakes, similar to Mickey's booms going overboard overfilling the well. Bonus points due to Starlight being a ''princess's'' apprentice.

Twilight Sparkle tests the magical ability of Starlight Glimmer in the castle. Not only is Starlight able to keep pace with Twilight, but she reveals that she can combine a few spells together to create new effects. Though impressed with Starlight's magical abilities, Twilight notices that Starlight has been slacking in her friendship lessons. Twilight says that now is a good time, since she and Spike are going to Canterlot to give a lecture to Princess Celestia's students. Starlight nervously responds that she'll try before retreating to her room. Just before leaving, Spike finds her pretending to study, while admitting that she doesn't want to do the friendship lessons. Instead, Starlight comes up with a plan to impress Twilight by doing multiple friendship lessons all at the same time, much to Spike's chagrin.

Eventually, Twilight undoes all of the magic and starts cleaning up the castle, questioning why Starlight though a mind control spell on her friends was a good idea. Starlight admits that she was afraid that she was going to screw up the activities involved, and didn't want to disappoint anypony. However, both Twilight and Spike help Starlight see that she missed the point of the lessons; it wasn't to be good at the activity, it was to bond with them over that activity. This causes Starlight to see how she messed up, and she apologizes to the Mane Six. Though initially hesitant, they all accept her apology, and return to the castle to properly clean up the mess and to actually do the activities together this time. Finally, the Mane Six and Starlight all end their day by getting a chance to "chillax" together by a poolside, albeit with Rainbow telling Starlight to sit still and be quiet.

an activity to do: Pinkie will bake a cake, Rarity will sew a dress, Fluttershy will tame animals, Applejack will scrapbook her old memories, and Rainbow will help them all "chillax." However, Starlight's suggestions quickly get ignored by how inconvenient they are. Quickly excusing herself, Starlight heads for the library to think of a way to get everything under control. She surmises that combining a few spells will let her use mind control to make the ponies listen to any suggestion, casting the spell and putting them all in a trance.

While Starlight orders her friends to perform tasks, she quickly finds a problem: they do what she tells them, but only that and no more. Finally, she gives them all instructions to keep going without her involvement, but things quickly start spiraling out of control. Pinkie won't stop making every recipe in a recipe book, Applejack ignores everything around her while reminiscing, Rarity makes a drawing of a dress instead of a real one, Rainbow flies around the castle aimlessly, and Fluttershy ignores the animals' feelings. Eventually, pies left in the oven cause the castle to fill with smoke, prompting Starlight to have Rainbow use storm clouds to put the flames out. Just when she thinks things can't get any worse, Twilight and Spike return to see the mess Starlight has created.
