Natter.

* ForgotAboutHisPowers: Spike is a ''[[IdiotBall fire-breathing dragon]]''. The Timberwolves are made of wood and many animals are scared of fire. Even if the former aspect wouldn't work because they're not dry wood, the latter should have at least been considered.
** Not really. With firebreathing as measly as Spike's, he wouldn't have incinerated the timberwolves or even injured them, more likely he'd just set them on fire a bit. In which case one would have to ask oneself, what would be worse: A hungry timberwolf chasing you, or a hungry timberwolf chasing you while on fire?
*** Go back and watch the scene in Apple Family Reunion where Applejack uses Spike to light a long row of wood for heating her cauldrons. Spike bellows out an impressive jet of fire that instantly ignites the entire pile. Spike is more than a competent firebreather, especially considering his size. He just happens to purposefully limit the size of his blasts because he usually uses them to perform mundane tasks that don't require his full power. And even if this were not the case, the obvious reasoning that fire = bad for wood should have been addressed somehow, IE with the timberwolves shrugging off a puny blast that Spike fires off in desperation.

Spike quickly realizes he can't shake hands with Applejack, seeing that, [[FurryReminder well...]] So he makes a fist and they brohoof.

** He wouldn't necessarily have to count the individual blades of grass. A much faster way is to do it the way scientists do it: count how many blades are in a certain area of land, say a square foot. Then figure out how many square feet are in a given area, in this case the farm. Finally, use the number of blades in the square foot to estimate the number of blades on the entire farm. It's not quite as accurate as counting every last blade of grass, but it is still a pretty smart way of accomplishing an incredibly difficult task.

* ConspicuousCG: The Timberwolves are rendered in CG. This might have been intentional to emphasize their strangeness, but nevertheless is quite jarring.

* OutOfCharacterMoment: The parts where Spike becomes TheKlutz. In prior episodes, he portrayed as very proficient at various household tasks, including baking as "Just for Sidekicks" indicates. Further more, in later parts of this very episode, he builds a massive tower of rocks without messing up and counts ''every single blade of grass'' at Sweet Apple Acres in only a few ''hours''.

* CombatPragmatist / DefensiveFeintTrap : Rather than facing the Timberwolves in a direct fight, Applejack uses the terrain to her advantage, hitting them with whatever she can put her hooves on, to the point that chasing after her can be much more dangerous than facing her one-on-one.

Added DiffLines:

* MamaBear - Applejack is recognized as the Mane Six's TeamMom so it's no surprise she's ready to do whatever it takes to protect Spike, even attacks that would have killed the Timberwolves if they didn't have their regenerative powers... and judging from her surprised expression when she see them forming [[spoiler: The King Timberwolf]] , she didn't know they could regenerate.

Added DiffLines:
