* PoorCommunicationKills: Most of the conflicts in the episode stem from the Monsters, Inc. staff, who are all trying to haphazardly adjust to their new system, paying little to no attention to Tylor when the latter arrives for his first day at work. [[LockedOutOfTheLoop No one ever stops to properly explain to him what's going on]], nor do they listen when he tries to explain his own situation, and he instead spends much of the episode being sent from person to person and being overwhelmed with conflicting information.

* YouHaveGotToBeKiddingMe: Sulley has this reaction when Roz tells him that he and Mike have been placed in charge of the company. Roz states that she said the same thing.

* WrongAssumption:
** After informing Tylor that his skills as a Scarer are no longer needed, Mr. Crummyham recalls when Tylor mentioned that his family owned a hardware store. From this, Crummyham concludes that Tylor himself must be a skilled mechanic and assigns to the factory's facilities team, MIFT, though it quickly becomes apparent that Tylor is actually [[TheKlutz completely hopeless in that department.]]
** When he encounters Sulley and Mike on the Laugh Floor, Tylor tries to explain his situation by mentioning that he went to see Ms. Flint. Before he can elaborate further, Mike assumes that this must mean Tylor is a newly approved Jokester and immediately sends him through a door, with the subsequent botched performance leading to complete chaos on the Laugh Floor.

Aren't Broken Pedestal moments usually In Universe?

* BrokenPedestal: InUniverse, the monsters are quick to acknowledge that Waternoose's actions in the movie made him as much of a figurative monster as he was a literal one. When Tylor is given the employee orientation video, Mr. Crummyham is quick to interrupt with this bit of information.

* NiceMeanAndInBetween: From how Tylor's new coworkers (sans Banana Bread) interacts with him: Val is automatically kind when they first interact and is excited to have him as part of the MIFT crew. Duncan's EstablishingCharacterMoment has him acting cruel and unfriendly towards Tylor. Cutter doesn't welcome him with open arms like Val but isn't hostile to him like Duncan.

*** The above gives Celia hope that she and Mike can go back to Harryhausen's. Mike dejectedly informs her that he and Sulley were banned for life after the Boo incident.
*** The same conversation mentions Waternoose when Celia tells Mike and Sulley someone wants to see them in his old office. Mike correctly suspects it can't be the ex-CEO, since they hauled him off the day before.

*** Also in the same conversation, Celia suggests she and Mike go out at Harryhausen's, but Mike says they have been banned for life from there. Harryhausen's was the restaurant Mike and Celia dated at and where Boo spread her chaos in the first film. (Incidentally, the restaurant is also named for stop-motion pioneer Creator/RayHarryhausen.)

Misuse. These are just shoehorned in and are just plot/reality happening with no noted surprises, setups, or subversions.

* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome:
** Since the whole 'trade scares for laughs' thing has just been put into action a day after the first movie, it leaves a lot of scarers who work for Monsters, Inc. to be anxious. Having a new technique to run a business, even an efficient one, doesn't sit well with all company employees since their talents lie in the old technique. Because of this, it causes a major decline in employees needed to generate power and a lot of power outages ensue.
** Likewise, Sulley is shocked at his and Mike's sudden promotion, since neither of them are trained in the world of business. Indeed, the two's early efforts to switch the company over from screams to laughs are fraught with difficulties.
** It's revealed after what happened at Harryhausen's during Celia's birthday, Mike and Sulley were banned for life.
