* ComplexityAddiction: Diamond mines generally have professional gemcutters on staff or can contact them, so the whole plot to have a thief steal an uncut gem so he can cut it and then have mercenaries with exotic equipment steal it back is unnecessarily complicated and expensive.

* OverlyNarrowSuperlative: The biggest 2,000 carat diamond in the world.

* PickyEater: As a side effect of using the chameleon powder, chameleon men cannot eat anything other than living bugs. Guinness however found out that he could neutralize this weakness by tasting the carbon of diamonds, which explains why he sided with De Pairs.

* PickyEater: As a side effect of using the chameleon powder, chameleon men cannot eat anything other than living bugs.bugs (Which does not explain why one of them was able to pinch Lupin's tempura shrimp without any issues - shrimp might be close enough to bugs to be safe, but deep-fried and living are rather distinct). Guinness however found out that he could neutralize this weakness by tasting the carbon of diamonds, which explains why he sided with De Pairs.

* TreasureIsBiggerInFiction: Uncut, the diamond is about the size of a melon. Strangely, after being cut, it's barely the size of a plum, which while huge for a diamond makes one wonder what happened to the rest of it.

As Guinness makes his escape via chopper, the group tries to fight back, to the point that the villain almost consider shooting them, but soon the drug affects them and the bad guys leave. Of course, Lupin realized that the water was tainted and they only pretend to drink and put a transmitter in Jigen’s hat, but it turns out that Zenigata was hiding in the pool, and now he starts behaving like a chameleon and looking for juicy live bugs to snack on. In De Pairs villa, Guinness commends the president for his plan and delivers the hat with the diamond, receiving a basket full of tasty bugs as a small homage… only to reveal that he’d rather have a steak. In fact, he found out that he could remove the drug’s side effect by tasting the carbon of the diamond itself. However their meeting is spied by Lupin and Jigen, which manage to use fake chameleon tongues to steal back the diamond and the hat. Furious, Guinness decides to use his trump card: a special tank covered in chameleon skins that allow it to camouflage everywhere. Soon Lupin finds himself helpless against the terrible, invisible behemoth. As they’re cornered in a ravine, Lupin asks Goemon to cut the diamond into a bullet, which he uses to puncture the tank and make it explode, while Guinness’ camouflage is disrupted when Fujiko douses him and his minion in hydrogen peroxide. Some time later, Jigen and Goemon are watching as Zenigata still hunts for bugs, while Lupin covers himself in flowers to get Fujiko close… only to be stung by a bee for his trouble.

Lupin’s next heist brings him to Johannesburg, South Africa, where the diamond mining company De Pairs has just recovered the largest rough diamond of the world. Later that night, the gang moves out but is soon found by Zenigata. Lupin however manages to squirt black paint on his face, so that when the security approaches they mistake the inspector for a black worker and take him away. After commenting on the racism, the group proceeds and soon the massive diamond is in their hands, with both Lupin and Jigen amazed by the shoddy security. They depart, unaware that the company’s president De Pairs is watching them from a nearby cliff with a goblin like man he calls Guinness, to which he entrust “the rest”.

'''The Terrifying Chamaleon Man''' [[note]]恐怖のカメレオン人間 (''Kyofuu no Kamareon Ningen'') [[/note]] with the English title of '''For Larva or Money'''.

Back in the hotel, Lupin tries to no avail to cut the diamond to raise its price, and once again Goemon and his sword have to work, turning the shapeless mineral in a beautiful gem. However, Guinness is seen spying on them from the window. As the thieves have lunch with the diamond in front of them and think about what to do next, Guinness sneaks into the room, showing chameleon-like camouflage skills that allows him to stay undetected. Taking advantage of a distraction, Guinness uses his tongue to steal the gem and run away in the following ruckus. Lupin however shows some insight when he reveals that the diamond on the table was a fake, and now they know they have to deal with a dangerous foe. Later on, that night, our heroes decide to go to sleep one by one, unaware that Guinness has snuck inside along with another chameleon man. After a little antic with Fujiko which ends up with Lupin accidentally hitting the two intruders with his shoes, the gang goes to sleep, but soon enough the chameleon men sneak in and stab their sleeping forms before looking around for the diamond. It turns out Lupin outsmarted them with mannequins, and in the following fight one of the two chameleon men is captured and unmasked, revealing himself to be an old black man.

The man introduces himself as professor Mumba and explains that he invented the chameleon drug, which allows to change the color of one’s own skin, in order to help the blacks of his country, oppressed by severe racial laws. However, the criminal Guinness stole his formula and forced him to be his partner in crime. Lupin understands but is reluctant to pursue Guinness any further, since he hasn’t got the diamond, but when Mumba tells him how the chameleon man has mocked the thief he changes his mind and asks the professor to lead him to Guinness’ hideout. On the way through across the jungle, The professor asks for a break and starts eating insects with his tongue, claiming that a side effect of the drug is that it makes you unable to eat anything but live bugs, and shows the group a clear spring of water from which they can drink. As the thieves take a drink Lupin accidentally hints at where the diamond is hidden (inside Jigen’s hat) and notices something wrong with the water, but is too late: “Mumba” snatches the hat with his prehensile tongue and reveals himself as Guinness, claiming that the real Mumba is long dead, and his gun-toting chameleon men surrounds the band. The chameleon man then spreads insecticide gas in the forest and reveal that the water in the pond was tainted with the drug: soon, they’ll crave live bugs to eat, but without living insects nearby they will suffer a miserable death.
