The Prime Minister and Princess are playing Hide and Seek. The Princess searches the castle and yard, and she startles the other adults and Puss by loudly calling for the Prime Minister. She eventually finds him by looking out her window, so it's his turn to be "it". She tries to tell him, "No peeking", only for her voice to disappear.

She alerts the Maid, who tells the King, Queen, and Chef. The Queen feels sorry for the Princess, but the Chef thinks it's a good thing since she can no longer shout. The Maid sternly clears her throat at him, so he suggests warm milk with honey.

The Princess tries the milk, but doesn't like the taste. Scruff eats her cookies, then he jumps on her bed despite not being allowed to. She rings a bell to scare him away, then she has to pee but her potty is up high. The Princess rings the bell again and the General comes. She points up, but he hands her a bucket instead, so she pees in that.

Later, the Princess has an itchy back and the narrator suggests getting help. She rings her bell, and everyone comes running, eventually ending with the Chef scratching her back. The Princess then uses the bell and drawings to ask for her potty, Gilbert, and cake.

When she eats the cake, however, her throat becomes sore. The Maid suggests drinking the milk and honey, which she does, but Gilbert gets knocked into the potty. The Princess, having regained her voice, calls for Gilbert. The narrator points out that her voice is back, but she decides to keep using the bell because it's "nice".

She alerts the Maid, who goes to wash Gilbert, then Scruff steals the Princess's bell. She tells him off, calling her bluff when the Maid overhears. The Maid then tricks the Princess into revealing she can talk, by asking if anyone wants to play Hide and Seek and pretending not to understand when the Princess rings her bell. The Princess plans on continuing to use the bell, but Scruff buries it.
