* CellPhonesAreUseless: The whole Creek are reliant on the Timekeeper to alert when it's time for dinner, even though basically all of them have smart phones. [[{{Handwave}} Supposedly]] most of their batteries are almost dead by this time of day and [[AttentionDeficitOhShiny their attention spans are too short]] to check the time. Kelsey has the sense to set an alarm, which she ignores for fifteen minutes.

* GivenNameReveal: The Timekeeper lets the trio know her name is Beth. They're apparently the first one in the Creek she told, as she talks with others so little she never even knew they were calling her "Timekeeper".

* TenMinuteRetirement: Because of failing to sound the time once, Beth quits as Timekeeper. Craig finds her and convinces her that she needs to be Timekeeper again, saying that she shouldn't let one mistake define her, and offers his friendship whenever she feels lonely.

* ChekhovsGun: When Craig takes the Timekeeper's place, he finds that the only part of the creek visible from her post is the meadow. That's how he figures out that Beth went there when they go look for her later.
* ClockDiscrepancy: Because the Timekeeper forgot to reset her watch for Daylight Savings, she failed to sound dinner time, making everyone late.

* InAnotherMansShoes: Craig, Kelsey, and J.P. each spend a day as the Timekeeper. Craig is tremendously bored, but signals at the right time. J.P. gets distracted by a bug and accidentally signals early. Kelsey signals late because she was too caught up in a book to notice her phone's alarm. All agree that it's a difficult job that they're glad Beth usually handles.
