"Young Dr. Weinstein" is the seventh episode of the fifth season of ''Series/{{Cheers}}''.

Diane, still trying to make Sam jealous, makes a point of letting him know that she is going out on a date. Specifically, a very [=WASPy=] fellow named Josh Brundage is taking her out to "The Cafe", a very hoity-toity exclusive restaurant. Sam insists that as ex-Red Sox pitcher Sam Malone he can get a reservation, and is embarrassed in front of Diane when he calls the restaurant and is told he can't get in until February.

Out of spite, Sam calls the restaurant pretending to be Brundage and cancels. Then, when the name "Sam Malone" still can't get him a reservation, he calls in and pretends to be an acquaintance of Frasier's, "heart transplant wizard" Dr. Julian Weinstein. After Diane and her date are turned away by the maitre d' at The Cafe, Diane does her best to embarrass Sam.

In the B-plot, Woody invents a new cocktail, "The Blue Boyd of Happiness", only to be told he just made a Blue Moon. He then starts trying over and over again to invent a new, original cocktail.

!!Tropes:

* ContinuityNod: Another passing reference to Sam having once been married. Sam's ex-wife Debra was only seen one time in the series, way back in the second episode, "[[Recap/CheersS1E2SamsWomen Sam's Women]]".
* IronicName: In her absolutely most condescending manner, Diane tells Sam that naming a super-expensive restaurant "The Cafe" is very trendy.
* ItsBeenDone: Woody is upset to learn that his new cocktail "The Blue Boyd of Happiness" (which Norm says looks like Windex) is actually a [[https://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/blue-moon-cocktail Blue Moon.Moon]].
* LookBehindYou: Sam uses "Oh my God, look at the size of that cat!" to get out of a restaurant bill.
* MaintainTheLie: Sam works pretty hard to maintain the fiction that he is Dr. Julian Weinstein. He has to keep it up for a fellow guest at the restaurant; when asked where he got the idea for an organ rejection drug he says "On the beach." When greeted by the chef, who knows the real Dr. Weinstein, he claims to have had an accident that required extensive plastic surgery. Finally he runs out on the bill rather than admit that he's really Sam Malone.
* NoPlansNoPrototypeNoBackup: Woody finally succeeds in creating an original drink. Unfortunately, he can't remember what he put in it. (All blue drinks have Blue Curaçao in them, at the very least.)
* ShoutOut: The title is a shout-out to ''Young Dr. Kildare'', the second film in the Film/DrKildare series.
