1.) Describes an event, but not why we would expect something else. 2.) Character creation and not surprisingly since Yuki explicitly said that wouldn't be the case.

* {{Deconstruction}}: Whereas most sitcoms would proceed with the ''Hawk and Chick'' festival without any consideration for the family's usual schedule (i.e. [[OneHourWorkWeek work]] or [[ShouldntWeBeInSchoolRightNow school]]), the Belchers realize (albeit much too late) that they still have to worry about that stuff. By the time the plan finally works, it's past midnight on a school night... and Gene has a big test the next day that's worth half his grade.

* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome:
** Played for laughs regarding subtitles; Dominic is annoyed that Louise thinks it's as simple as adding words to the screen. The Belchers thus have to find another way to make the original Japanese print understandable for English-speaking audiences.
** Louise thinks that Yuki would change her mind about seeing her father if she watched one of her old movies, and the entire film festival hinges on this assumption. However, Yuki herself remarks that she probably wouldn't, and only goes along with the idea for Louise's sake. When Yuki arrives at the theater, she doesn't have an epiphany about how wrong she was--instead, the movie brings back bad memories to the point that she gets up to leave, just as Yuki predicted it would. When someone adamantly claims they won't change their mind about something, sometimes they really won't, especially when the bad blood between Koji and Yuki has been brewing for decades. The ''only'' reason Yuki reconsiders is because she sees how terrified Louise is that she'll go through the same thing with Bob one day.
