* AlternateCharacterInterpretation: Jane struggles with the idea she's a natural killer which seems to be confirmed when Roman tells her the story of how she was the first to kill her rabbit by instantly snapping its neck when told to kill it, which he (and presumably the rest of Sandstorm) believe shows she's naturally ruthless. However, he later reveals that for the students who couldn't kill their rabbits, the instructors killed the animals slowly and forced them to witness it. This suggests that Jane/Remi, far from being a ruthless, cold-blooded killer, was being ''merciful'' and [[GoodIsNotSoft sparing the rabbit, which was doomed to die in any case, from suffering]].
* IfYoureSoEvilEatThisKitten: Shepherd tests Jane's loyalty by sending her to kill a helpless man Remi had seduced before having her memory erased.

* BigBrotherInstinct: Roman covers up Jane's failure to assassinate Jeffrey by telling Shepherd that she killed him.
* IfYoureSoEvilEatThisKitten: Shepherd tests Jane's loyalty by sending her to kill a helpless man Remi had seduced before having her memory erased.

* SecretTestOfCharacter: Lampshaded. Jane realizes instantly that her mission is really to see if she's still the cold-blooded killer and still loyal, which Shepherd confirms.

* MyInstinctsAreShowing: Jane expresses her concern to Dr. Borden that she's a natural killer because she has thoughts along those lines, especially after Roman and Shepherd tell her she is. Borden points out that even is she is, her intellect is in control, not her instincts.

* MultitaskedConversation: Jane is asked to say a few words in an unofficial memorial to Oscar after Shepherd is convinced of her loyalty and makes it sound she's mourning him and what he meant to her and reaffirming the need for the members of Sandstorm to be a team and defend the country. The cuts to what the other characters are doing back in New York makes it quite clear she's really talking about Weller being her rock, mourning and wanting justice for Mayfair, and reaffirming to herself that her loyalty is to her team and to stopping Sandstorm.
