* AntiSmotherLoveTalk: Luke tells his father that he does appreciate all the effort he went through to give him a better life. However, his dad also taught him to be freethinking and compassionate, and self-confident, and he doesn't understand why he would do that if he doesn't trust him to choose his own way in life.

Added DiffLines:

* SoProudOfYou: Lucius ultimately says that he's still not entirely happy about the situation, but he understands his son's point of view and he feels a little proud of him.
* WretchedHive: When Lucius keeps emphasizing the danger of being Batwing, Luke points out that in Gotham, it's a risk even to be an ordinary citizen. One can get killed just by walking down the street.

!!Tropes:
* ADayInTheLimelight: While Luke has had roles in other episodes before, this is the first one where he's the focus.
* AngerBornOfWorry: Lucius finally reveals to Luke that the reason behind his not talking to his son for a while is because he's scared for Luke; while Batwing is a capable fighter, Batman's sidekicks get hurt. A lot. He doesn't want to live knowing that his son will likely die before him.
* BothSidesHaveAPoint: Luke is right in that being Batwing was his decision, and that his father should be mature and let it go that Luke didn't tell him right away. Lucius, on the other hand, has a point in that it's one thing to work with Batman on the sidelines (providing tools, repairing devices, etc) and another thing entirely to fight by his side (which is infinitely more dangerous).
* ContinuityNod: Lucius says sadly that, despite all Batman does to keep his sidekicks safe, they die. You don't need to be a Batman superfan to know which sidekick he's referring to.
* OutlivingOnesOffspring: What Lucius fears will happen if Luke keeps being Batwing.
