Don't let the antics of this police detective fool you, though. Many gods and mortals have been tricked into thinking they had nothing to worry about, only realizing too late that he already has them trapped. Columbo has proven to be an invaluable asset in the House of Justice.
* If someone has been unlawfully accused of a crime, he turns to the services of defense attorney Perry Mason. Together, they form a formidable team few bad guys are capable of stopping.
* ''Many'' younger deities have used his playbook in order to trip up their foes. Patrick Jane is among his most famous pupils before ascending himself.
** While she ascended later than him, Miss Marple may well be the only deity that has been using the playbook longer than him! Nevertheless, the two respect each other immensely. Miss Marple is not bound by the rules of the law and can her her hands dirty where he cannot.
** While there may not be many as famous as him, there's another who even he can't figure out if he's faking. PhonyPsychic Shawn Spencer out does him in terms of playing the GeniusDitz (mainly the ditz part). It doesn't help that Shawn implies that he is indeed a psychic. He remains impressed with his detective skills and helps him out whenever he needs it.
** Another pupil of his is Gibbs, God of [[PerpSweating Making Criminals Sweat]]. While Perry Mason originated the technique and Columbo mastered it, it was Gibbs who made it an art form. He helped grant Gibbs his divine powers soon after. He's also tried to convince Gibbs to give Tony some slack, to little effect.
* While not in the House of Pantheon/LawAndJustice, he frequently resides there to help the gods there interrogate criminals. Dredd placed Lestrade in charge of dealing with Columbo's inquiries. Well known for helping Holmes as well as a number of other detectives in the Pantheon, he tries his best to decipher what the lieutenant is trying to do.
* If there is one person capable of thwarting his investigations, it's Manfred von Karma. The AmoralAttorney has proven to be an effective prosecutor, sending many of the innocent in jail. He also seems to be one of the few who are not fazed with his clumsy nature.
* Revolver Ocelot has also proven to be an counter for the villains. Even shutting down his operations turned out to be a part of a greater scheme of his. It was revealed to be due to a truce with Xanatos. While usually rivals, the two saw the potential threat of the lieutenant and decided to work together to put him out of their hairs.
* Is in the process of training his followers against the counterattacks of Hannibal Lecter. Many have fallen to his sharp tongue, capable of driving men to suicide. Columbo himself is cautious against the man, as Hannibal isn't as easily swayed by his demands.
* Moriarty proposed a document specifically warning his followers of the antics of Columbo, lest they too underestimate him. He hired Tarquin to add ''a section of his minions book just to warn them of the man.'' Truly the bane of evil masterminds.
* The same goes to Jack the Ripper, who saw many of his kind fall for similar tricks. He hopes to add the lieutenant to the latest list of his victims.
* Resident vigilante cop Dirty Harry doesn't usually have the patience for the lieutenant's methods, even when they work most of the time. As such, he only helps out in capturing suspects when Columbo thinks he can trick them into confessing.
* Tasked himself to keep watch over Norma Desmond. After her first [[spoiler: VillainousBreakdown]], he suspects she would snap again at any time. Despite her objections to keeping her watch, he genuinely wants her to reform and kickstart her career. He even drops his act to try and look more sincere to her. Norma doesn't think she needs it, believing she just needs to expose herself more to the audience.
* While he thinks Travis' actions were noble in theory, he doesn't approve of assassination without the due process of law. Any situation that these two work together will be strained at best.
