*Every night when Little Nemo falls asleep, he finds himself in strange dream worlds inhabited by equally unusual characters who take him on some crazy adventures. Slumberland is the primary dreamworld Nemo finds himself in, but not the only one and he has encountered figures such as a princess who he has playdates with, Morpheus the benevolent king of Slumberland, and mischievous trickster clown Flip. Whenever his dream ends, Nemo will wake up on his bed with some kind of shock about what had happened. Regardless of what his life is like in the real world, Nemo has plenty of vivid dreams that will keep going throughout his nights no matter what.
*Nemo had yet another dream of him visiting Slumberland, but there was something strange about the place for this particular visit, not the least of which involved a strangely colored sky and odd planets that could be seen every so often. At the top of Slumberland's castle, the princess was waiting for him and as they watched the strange sky together, she mentioned that there were many worlds beyond Slumberland waiting to be discovered. This confused Nemo somewhat given that he's traveled through many different dream worlds and has even explored places such as Mars and just as when he was about to ask the princess what she was talking about, a wave of flying animals soared above the skies of Slumberland and Nemo was startled by the noise one of them made moments before he suddenly woke up from the dream. At first, it seemed like the dream was over, but just as Nemo was about to step on the floor, he realized that it felt off in a way that wasn't possible. After rushing out of his room, he discovered that he was still in Slumberland, or at least something very similar to it given the presence of elements he had never seen before. It may seem like Nemo is still dreaming, yet in this particular instance, it appears as if the many things he's seen in his dreams have indeed come to life in a way he didn't expect.
*Slumberland wasn't the only dream world that Nemo would learn of in his dreams as when he went to sleep one time, he found himself in a different realm known as Nightopia. It shared much of the same whimsy that Slumberland has, but it was through meeting its guardian [=NiGHTS=] that Nemo would discover something much bigger going on. Nightopia was part of the Night Dimension and that included its darker counterpart Nightmare, ruled over by the terrifying Wizeman. [=NiGHTS=] was also a creation of Wizeman, but turned against him and has battled against him and his subordinates such as Reala for the fate of Nightopia and the Night Dimension as a whole. Whenever the dream world isn't at stake, [=NiGHTS=] can be a carefree trickster (the jester-like appearance helps) and Nemo has not only taken to flying around dream worlds alongside [=NiGHTS=], but to provide some help in trying to get [=NiGHTS=] freed from a prison should it happen like how other children who visited Nightopia to confront their problems did so. Other dream dimensions Nemo learned about included The Dreaming, which played an important role in The Bone Cousins' adventures that would end with the defeat of an eldritch nightmare entity known as Lord of the Locusts and Nemo would find himself involved with the cousins in his dreams whether it was fun hijinx or a larger-scale adventure.
*Ned Needlemeyer was another young boy who has had many adventurous dreams, though his circumstances are very different compared to Nemo. Where Nemo's dreams seem to happen regardless of what happens to him in the real world (though eating certain foods is part of it), Ned has a hyperactive imagination and plenty to be afraid of in reality, leading to his nightmares being inspired by said fears. Ned was willing to take a chance in befriending another boy who regularly has strange dreams, though it did take him a while to get used to the vast surreal landscape that Slumberland has even if it wasn't as openly scary compared to what Ned normally goes through in his sleep. Thanks to his experience navigating strange dream worlds, Nemo was willing to help Ned overcome how many fears he still has to deal with in his dreams so Ned can gain more confidence in the real world.
*While Nemo's dreams aren't without its scary moments, they are mostly whimsical in nature. This made him worried about another dreamer named Madotsuki, who had some disturbing nightmares despite being young. When he somehow ended up in a strange area that happened to be part of Madotsuki's dreams, he did his best to navigate the place to try and find her upon hearing about how troubled her life has been. While he was eventually able to find her and she didn't appear to have anything against the mostly well-adjusted Nemo, he ended up having to escape Madotsuki's dreams to avoid getting harmed by the monsters that were about to attack him and Madotsuki. It was one of the more terrifying places Nemo has explored and it was easy to get lost in, but that hasn't stopped him from hoping that visiting more pleasant dreams can help Madotsuki no matter how slow the process may be.
*King Morpheus is the king of Slumberland and someone who cares greatly for his subjects. As far as anyone is concerned based on what Nemo has talked about, King Morpheus doesn't really have a hand in affecting the dreams of others despite using the Royal Scepter to drive out anything that threatens the kingdom. Nemo was surprised to learn of another entity named Morpheus who was tied to dreams, with that one known as Dream of the Endless. That Morpheus was decidedly more moody compared to Slumberland's king, but still heroic to a degree and him being powerful enough to be an architect for dreams (and be involved with a whole group of entities that are embodiments of certain concepts) fascinated Nemo. The Wind Fish was another interesting figure to Nemo seeing as how the former was able to make its dreams a reality as long as it is asleep, which made the boy wonder whose dream it is if he were to encounter the Wind Fish.
*It wasn't just Wizeman who had a domain over nightmares and wanted to expand his reign of terror. There were others such as Nightmare and Vaermina who had powers and realms far more terrifying than what The Nightmare King has done and entities such as Freddy Krueger who have traveled across such to spread terror and kill others in their sleep. As effective of a weapon as the Royal Scepter is (and Nemo was going to need it in order to survive against the many dangers that await him), there was only so much power in it that Nemo can use and he had to use the help of other powerful dream entities if he is to live another day against such nightmares. Dreamwalkers such as Klonoa and Princess Luna have provided Nemo assistance in fighting against such dangers and the varied abilities these figures have access to have proven to be an effective compliment to the scepter's magic powers.
*The princess of Slumberland served as Nemo's playmate whenever he visited that realm and was generally friendly to him. When Nemo heard of other princesses related to sleep, he had a measure of curiosity and was surprised to learn how different one of them was in her personality compared to Slumberland's princess, or most other princesses for that matter. Princess Syalis was kidnapped by demons and not only was she not that bothered by it, but she is more focused on getting some rest and has proven to be a pain for the demons that are keeping her around. Syalis was someone who Nemo could meet in the real world, though finding her there (or in the dream world for that matter) was difficult given the circumstances Syalis has to go through just to consistently sleep peacefully. That didn't stop Nemo from hoping to find Syalis one day and explore Slumberland with her and possibly give Slumberland's princess another friend. On her end, Syalis finds the notion of a young boy dreaming about princesses and strange worlds to be intriguing and there's a few things from her experiences that she believes Nemo can learn from.
*While the outfits Nemo wears in his dreams can change depending on what's happening, he'll always start his adventures by wearing some pajamas. Wendy, John, and Michael Darling all wore their pajamas when they went to Neverland with Peter Pan and in addition to the Darling children's choice of clothes, there were some dream-like qualities to their adventures in Neverland. Peter Pan himself has a few things in common with Flip in regards to being fun-loving tricksters who despite some problematic actions, are willing to stick by their companions. Neverland was a place that Nemo was willing to visit one day (or night) and his own adventures in Slumberland made for interesting stories for the Darling siblings to listen to.
*Despite being a nuisance across Slumberland and being initially responsible for Nemo's dreams ending, Flip has regularly accompanied the kid in Nemo's adventures. Flip was a tricky clown to put up with, but there were many clowns outside of Slumberland who were far more malicious to the point that they could literally be the stuff of nightmares for someone as young as Nemo. For Nemo, The Joker may as well be the dark counterpart of Flip when it comes to trickster clowns making someone do something one isn't supposed to do. Having a clown whose idea of having fun was causing mayhem that can be fatal to others was not something Nemo would accept especially after learning that The Joker was willing to use trickery and manipulation to make others do his bidding and get what he wants. There were other evil clowns out there such as Joka for Nemo to worry about (and Joka being tied to nightmares only made it worse in that specific case), but it's the consequences of falling for a twisted scheme at the hands of someone as violent and clever as The Joker that has Nemo worried.
*It's likely that Nemo keeps having these weird dreams as a result of eating before bedtime, especially since some of these foods are sweet treats. He's not the only one that had to deal with this as others such as Snoopy (who ate pizza and other junk food before sleeping and dreamed about being a sled dog in the cold wilderness) and Garfield (a heavy eater who once had to escape a nightmare after an extravagant meal) can attest to, but this seems to happen to the kid more often than others. His affinity for sweets did help him find others who are fond of this type of food such as Lemres, a magician who not only makes sweets, but has to rely on them to use his magic. Nemo mistook Lemres as a sleepwalker given that the latter had his eyes closed at all times, but was corrected by him and offered Nemo some candy. Nemo took a liking to the candy Lemres made and figured it wouldn't be the last he'd see of the magician, given how Lemres' magic skills can be helpful when the Royal Scepter's powers aren't enough to fend off threats.
*Nemo ended up breaking a promise in both the real world and the dream world: a promise to not eat a pie before sleeping in the real world and a promise to not open a door holding the Nightmare King in Slumberland. While he would realize his mistake on both regards, learning about other entities who are serious in making sure promises are kept was something he had to understand well. [[Pantheon/LimbsAndJoints The Collector]] was someone who took promises very seriously and being someone who had godlike powers despite looking like someone who could be Nemo's age was a lot for Slumberland's most recurring visitor to take in. The Collector has since learned from some (much bigger) mistakes of their own and have traveled the cosmos while looking for someone fun to play with. Given the playdates that Nemo had with Slumberland's princess, having The Collector involved will be interesting given the latter taking pinky promises seriously (thus giving Nemo more of a motivation to uphold such promises when given to him), and it's possible that The Collector's travels will lead them to Slumberland at some point.

There were others such as Nightmare and Vaermina who had powers and realms far more terrifying than what The Nightmare King has done and entities such as Freddy Krueger who have traveled across such to spread terror and kill others in their sleep. As effective of a weapon as the Royal Scepter is (and Nemo was going to need it in order to survive against the many dangers that await him), there was only so much power in it that Nemo can use and he had to use the help of other powerful dream entities if he is to live another day against such nightmares. Dreamwalkers such as Klonoa and Princess Luna have provided Nemo assistance in fighting against such dangers and the varied abilities these figures have access to have proven to be an effective compliment to the scepter's magic powers.
*The princess of Slumberland served as Nemo's playmate whenever he visited that realm and was generally friendly to him. When Nemo heard of other princesses related to sleep, he had a measure of curiosity and was surprised to learn how different one of them was in her personality compared to Slumberland's princess, or most other princesses for that matter. Princess Syalis was kidnapped by demons and not only was she not that bothered by it, but she is more focused on getting some rest and has proven to be a pain for the demons that are keeping her around. Syalis was someone who Nemo could meet in the real world, though finding her there (or in the dream world for that matter) was difficult given the circumstances Syalis has to go through just to consistently sleep peacefully. That didn't stop Nemo from hoping to find Syalis one day and explore Slumberland with her and possibly give Slumberland's princess another friend. On her end, Syalis finds the notion of a young boy dreaming about princesses and strange worlds to be intriguing and there's a few things from her experiences that she believes Nemo can learn from.
*While the outfits Nemo wears in his dreams can change depending on what's happening, he'll always start his adventures by wearing some pajamas. Wendy, John, and Michael Darling all wore their pajamas when they went to Neverland with Peter Pan and in addition to the Darling children's choice of clothes, there were some dream-like qualities to their adventures in Neverland. Peter Pan himself has a few things in common with Flip in regards to being fun-loving tricksters who despite some problematic actions, are willing to stick by their companions. Neverland was a place that Nemo was willing to visit one day (or night) and his own adventures in Slumberland made for interesting stories for the Darling siblings to listen to.
*Despite being a nuisance across Slumberland and being initially responsible for Nemo's dreams ending, Flip has regularly accompanied the kid in Nemo's adventures. Flip was a tricky clown to put up with, but there were many clowns outside of Slumberland who were far more malicious to the point that they could literally be the stuff of nightmares for someone as young as Nemo. For Nemo, The Joker may as well be the dark counterpart of Flip when it comes to trickster clowns making someone do something one isn't supposed to do. Having a clown whose idea of having fun was causing mayhem that can be fatal to others was not something Nemo would accept especially after learning that The Joker was willing to use trickery and manipulation to make others do his bidding and get what he wants. There were other evil clowns out there such as Joka for Nemo to worry about (and Joka being tied to nightmares only made it worse in that specific case), but it's the consequences of falling for a twisted scheme at the hands of someone as violent and clever as The Joker that has Nemo worried.
*It's likely that Nemo keeps having these weird dreams as a result of eating before bedtime, especially since some of these foods are sweet treats. He's not the only one that had to deal with this as others such as Snoopy (who ate pizza and other junk food before sleeping and dreamed about being a sled dog in the cold wilderness) and Garfield (a heavy eater who once had to escape a nightmare after an extravagant meal) can attest to, but this seems to happen to the kid more often than others. His affinity for sweets did help him find others who are fond of this type of food such as Lemres, a magician who not only makes sweets, but has to rely on them to use his magic. Nemo mistook Lemres as a sleepwalker given that the latter had his eyes closed at all times, but was corrected by him and offered Nemo some candy. Nemo took a liking to the candy Lemres made and figured it wouldn't be the last he'd see of the magician, given how Lemres' magic skills can be helpful when the Royal Scepter's powers aren't enough to fend off threats.
*Nemo ended up breaking a promise in both the real world and the dream world: a promise to not eat a pie before sleeping in the real world and a promise to not open a door holding the Nightmare King in Slumberland. While he would realize his mistake on both regards, learning about other entities who are serious in making sure promises are kept was something he had to understand well. [[Pantheon/LimbsAndJoints The Collector]] was someone who took promises very seriously and being someone who had godlike powers despite looking like someone who could be Nemo's age was a lot for Slumberland's most recurring visitor to take in. The Collector has since learned from some (much bigger) mistakes of their own and have traveled the cosmos while looking for someone fun to play with. Given the playdates that Nemo had with Slumberland's princess, having The Collector involved will be interesting given the latter taking pinky promises seriously (thus giving Nemo more of a motivation to uphold such promises when given to him), and it's possible that The Collector's travels will lead them to Slumberland at some point.
