* "''Webcomic/{{xkcd}}''" may seem like an initialism for something, but it doesn't mean anything. It's just a string of random letters that creator Randall Munroe liked, as it's one of the few combinations of 4 English letters that can't be pronounced at all.
** It has, however, been pointed out that the numerical values of the letters add up to JustForFun/FortyTwo.

* ''Webcomic/FindingYourRoots'': The protagonist's team, Team Hearth. It's supposed to be a {{portmeanteau}} of "Heart" and "Earth" and has nothing to do with fireplaces. Shelly lampshaded this when she was coming up with the name, but Cedar cut her off to say it was perfect.

* "''Webcomic/{{xkcd}}''" may seem like an acronym for something. In fact, it doesn't mean anything; it's just a string of random letters that creator Randall Munroe liked.

Troll movie titles are [[LongTitle very long]] and ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin, down to describing each individual character, plot element and how many kisses and murders there are. When John points out to Karkat how stupid this is, Karkat justifies it by saying that troll movies have been around for much longer than human movies.

* ''Webcomic/TerrorIsland'': The comic's plot has nothing to do with terror or islands. Lampshaded by the former TagLine, "I'm not sure why it's called Terror Island". Also, Ned Q. Sorcerer a.k.a. "The Obvious Dentist" is neither a sorcerer nor a dentist, and Centre of the Earth University is actually on the surface of the Moon.

* ''Webcomic/TerrorIsland'': The comic's plot has nothing to do with terror or islands. Lampshaded by the former TagLine, "I'm not sure why it's called Terror Island". Also, Ned Q. Sorcerer is not a sorcerer, and Centre of the Earth University is actually on the surface of the Moon.

* Inverted for a running gag in ''Webcomic/WhiteDarkLife'' is that thus far only two werebeast turn into what their names say. Tora(tiger) turns into an oni, Tori(bird) becomes a cat, Saru(monkey) changes into a snake, and Inu(dog) and Uma(horse) transform into harpies.

* Killing six billion demons is not the subject matter of ''Webcomic/KillSixBillionDemons''. The phrase is, however, the name of TheChosenOne as recorded in prophecy... who is also not literally intended to kill six billion demons. According to WordOfGod, the name is a metaphor for the hero ending all the evils and injustices of the current age. (''Kill Six Billion Demons'' began as an InteractiveComic on the ''MS Paint Adventures'' forum where the objective ''was'' to kill six billion demons -- the comic in its current form is a ContinuityReboot that decided to keep the name.)

** Even though [[BloodKnight Etna]] is named after [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Etna a volcano]], she isn't themed around any volcanic symbology whatsoever, and instead proudly brandishes a [[InstantAwesomeJustAddDragons dragon]] AnimalMotif.
