* Yellowstone's eruption. It doesn't go off as in ''Supervolcano'', with a strong plinian fissure eruption at first and with more vents opening up until the entire caldera is pockmarked with similar plinian eruptions. Here, the ''entire caldera swells and bursts like a blister,'' going off like a nuke. When Jackson looks behind him, he sees ''the entire horizon on fire.'' Even Charlie looks terrified for a few moments. And then come the lava bombs and pyroclastic flows, the former consisting on not only freshly erupted material but also bits of the caldera thrown up in the blast, complete with rocks studded with trees. The flows pretty much incinerate everything they engulf and pack so much power that when it engulfs and destroys a town near the runway, it uproots a radio tower and smashes it into scrap with ''ease''. Also, the mere fact that this is actually small compared with what the real Yellowstone can do: according to experts this supervolcano alone ''can destroy North America completely'', and create a volcanic winter across the planet.

* [[{{Anvilicious}} Ridiculous symbolism]] aside, the scene of the Vatican's destruction is doubtlessly terrifying. This is ''The Vatican'', the holiest city in the Catholic religion, and it's obliterated all while the gathered masses beg God for His salvation. And just before St. Peter's Basilica collapses due to a violent earthquake, the camera cuts to a group of bishops praying in the Sistine Chapel before it shifts to the painting "The Creation of Adam" on the ceiling. When the earthquake starts, a crack travels up the ceiling and goes between the space between Adam and God's fingers before the entire ceiling collapses starting from the crack [[{{RuleOfSymbolism}} between]] their hands.

* Being on the streets of LA while the earthquake is going on. A giant crack appears along the ground and the dirt beneath your feet starts tilting, causing cars to come hurtling towards you at apparently terminal velocity. In the trailers that show that clip, one of the people knocked into the chasm by a falling car screams.

* While the plane takes off in L.A, you can see as they fly past that there are people fleeing and trying to avoid a horrific death, their distant screams combining with the sight to be a truly haunting sight.

* The sheer scale of what's going on in California is illustrated by a brief interlude where Adrian checks in with some scientists watching the chaos unfold from their video feeds. He's informed that the quake was upgraded to a ''10.9'' by Harvard, that minutes earlier the entire city of Pasadena had been wiped out, and that gigantic canyons have opened up around California in the span of hours if not minutes.
** Then comes the kicker. This is explained to be the result of the ''entire Pacific Plate "destabilizing"''. The Pacific Plate has dozens of cities with populations ranging in the tens of millions on its edges. What we're seeing in L.A. here is potentially happening to Tokyo, Seattle, Christchurch and who knows how many other cities.

* And at last, seeing the entirety of Los Angeles (and most of the West Coast) slide into the ocean.

* ** And at last, seeing the entirety of Los Angeles (and most of the West Coast) slide into the ocean.ocean. There's almost an aspect of DissonantSerenity to the situation as Jack and his family watch whole pieces of the California coast capsize like giant ships, then slowly slide down into the sea. There's no sound of screaming here, but you just know that probably ''millions'' of people dying at that moment.

Added DiffLines:

** FridgeHorror comes into play here, but it's neither confirmed nor denied as to if any of the other remaining supervolcanoes on the planet have erupted too. Imagine this scenario playing out at Taupo in New Zealand, or worse, at Campi Phlegrei in Italy, which is ''directly under the city of Naples''.
