* The sudden GenreShift into "vampire horror" during the "Masks of Evil" two-parter is abrupt for any viewer, particularly the younger ones, who thus far have been enjoying the LighterAndSofter route of young Indy's adventures. In this episode Indy fights a Romanian nobleman who is all but explicitly stated to be Vlad Tepes himself; furthermore, he's a literal vampire in a series where supernatural beings tend to be rare and usually completely inscrutable. There's nothing about that with Targo; he's a sadist who leaves the staked bodies of his victims impaled around his castle, and vivisects one of young Indy's allies alive and screaming for his own pleasure, all of which is shockingly graphic compared to previous episodes.

* Some episodes from the UsefulNotes/WorldWarI saga, such as "Trenches of Hell" and "Demons of Deception"; since despite the BloodlessCarnage, they show a gritty picture of trench warfare. Indy witnesses poison gas attacks while serving in France; in one instance, a soldier loses his gas mask and desperately searches for one and begs the other soldiers for a gas mask with no success, as he begins to die a painful death from the gas. And soon the terror is amplified when flamethrower teams emerge from the gas cloud.
