* In the final episode Hugo Strange is put in a permanently catatonic state due to [[MySkullRunethOver being given all the knowledge in the universe]] by The Joining. While you can't say he didn't deserve it for selling out Earth to them, there's something very unsettling about seeing the normally composed and calculating villain as a drooling vegetable.

* Ethan Bennett's treatment by the Joker near the end of the first season is just terrifying, especially near the end of the episode when [[BodyHorror Ethan's face]] ''[[BodyHorror melts]]'' as he turns into Clayface. Even worse is that Ethan's transformation was entirely accidental on Joker's part. Even he had no idea what his Joker Putty would do to humans. Not to mention Ethan only breathed in the fumes. Who knows what a direct application would’ve done?

** What makes Ethan's transformation especially horrifying are the circumstances. Most Clayfaces brought their mutations on themselves in someway through vanity and experimentation. This time it's ''forced'' on a completely helpless victim who finds himself ''melting away'' after being tortured by a madman. Seeing him wail for help from people who only see a monster is genuinely painful to watch.
