* The Cabin People, which is where you will find [[spoiler: The Stranger with gray hair and blue eyes]]. They behave like any other normal faction when you meet them for the first time, welcoming you in a [[FauxAffablyEvil friendly and polite way]], but you just feel like something's... ''off'' about them. For starters, their camp is littered with corpses (Though this was a bug that was patched in v196) , and they will start ''laughing'' if you accuse them of lying [[spoiler: that Tim's white strain antigen is a lifesaver, when it's actually a dud and got someone in your community ''killed'']]. Finally, they will point you to their leader Martin Steele, [[spoiler: who's actually the stranger you've been trying to track down,]] for a chat, and he greets you with DissonantSerenity before [[spoiler: [[AndThenJohnWasAZombie everyone suddenly turns simultaneously out of nowhere and pounces on you.]]]] Furthermore, investigating their cabin will reveal that its stashed with no less than ''[[IAmAHumanitarian 120 chunks of human meat]]'', and they have been ''[[TheSecretOfLongPorkPies selling it to other unsuspecting settlements]]''.

* Somewhere around 15 days into the game, FEMA scouts will show up on the map, warning about a wave of soldiers infected with invisible strain. If you ask Liam Frank, the leader of the scout team, he will mention a woman who he had to [[MercyKill shoot]] since she was infected with green strain and they had run out of antigen. If you try to sympathize with Liam, he will tell you that death was a relief for the woman since she had [[Fingore all her fingernails]] and [[EyeScream one of her eyes]] removed by the invisible strain infected, and was also suffering from internal bleeding.

* The opening to Story Mode can be unnerving for some. You start at the edge of the map on a highway, just like in Sandbox, but you don't get a tutorial quest notification as usual, just the hollow sound of the wind rustling against the trees. You wander along the highway, scavenging scraps from wrecked cars and helicopters. After walking for a bit more, you find a mangled corpse of a traveller sprawled on the ground. Upon closer inspection you see more wrecked cars with more dead bodies further down the road. Suddenly one of them stands up...

* The Spencer Massacre. You never actually get to see it unfold yourself, but Paul Powers can give you a retelling of the event. Sometime before the start of the game, FEMA let a man named Spencer into one of their Quaratine Zones, gave him a room, and let him apply for a green pass. One day Spencer, who turned out to be infected, picked up a assault rifle and began to methodically mow down anyone he saw. More than 20 people were killed in the shooting before Spencer was put down, and many were [[CensoredChildDeath children]], which is why there are no more kids around in the Moose Valley FOB.
