''Manga/PandoraHearts'' has plenty of disturbing moments of NightmareFuel, even if it draws heavily from ''Literature/AliceInWonderland''.

* Doldee: In most media, mind control can be fought off with a good IKnowYoureInThereSomewhere Fight. Not here. Doldee gains more control the more the victim fights. Oh, and her contractor isn't completely exempt from her [[SanitySlippage influence.]]

* Although their [[AnimalisticAbomination myriad]] [[HumanoidAbomination of]] [[EldritchAbomination grotesque appearances]] do make most Chains terrifying, what they do to people who makes contracts with them certainly helps. See, to make a contract with a Chain, one must take some of its blood. Legal contractors take it within a small mirror they keep with them at all times. Illegal contractors, however, directly ingest said blood. That's where the trouble starts. The thing is, after the contract is formed, a mark known as an Incuse forms on the contractor's body. The Incuse is shaped like a clock, and like a clock it measures time : the time left to the contractor. Unless the Chain is killed, the hand of the Incuse moves inexorably, and once it makes a complete turn, the unfortunate contractor get cast into the Abyss, where they either get eaten alive by Chains or end up [[AndThenJohnWasAZombie becoming one]] themselves.

* When a contractor's incuse is completed, they are dragged into the Abyss, which is a [[EldritchLocation nightmarish plane of existence]] that looks like a cross between a broken toy box and hell , and where they get eaten alive by [[EldritchAbomination Chains]] or end up [[AndThenJohnWasAZombie becoming one]] themselves.

He can trap people in his [[EldrichLocation pocket dimension]] where their own memories are used against them. Should the fight go bad, he can always flee with his dimension hopping abilities, collapsing his pocket dimension behind him, leaving those trapped to die in an empty void.

* Becoming Glen doesn't seem to be a happy fate. When you're "lucky" enough to live long enough without getting killed, you will still have to deal with your body [[BodyHorror deteriorating]] from the strain of having too much power of the Abyss in you. Once transferring Glen's soul to the next vessel is done with, you will gradually start dying a slow and painful death, and eventually turn into a chain. It's remarkable how [[StepfordSmiler Levi never stopped smiling]] throughout the ordeal, except for the occasional moments of shock.
** Then, there's also the chance that you will end up having a [[ApocalypseMaiden Child of Misfortune]] for a sibling, whom you will have to [[ShootTheDog send into the Abyss]] to be killed DeaderThanDead.The Worse part is that everything about the Children of Misfortune were lies by the Jurors as they were a thereat to their plans being irregulars created by the cores basically all the Baskervilles were just tools for their stories and they were sacrificing innocent people for nothing.
** Even without that, you will end up distorting reality around you, especially the lives of those around you, and being Glen amplifies this. Just ask [[spoiler:Leo]]. Or, well, any of the Glens, really.

* Even more disturbing is [[StepfordSmiler Oz Vessalius]] and how much he is shown to have suffered that he holds it in, but the crowning moment of is when Alice gets kidnapped by the Cheshire Cat, who drags the characters into lovely reminiscences of their past, that try to kill you. If you don't die of that, he will hunt you down and kill you. Oz happens to find Alice, and then she is killed. He then goes AxCrazy and tries to destroy the entire dimension, all the while screaming about how he will kill everything and everyone who makes Alice sad. Then, he hears Alice say that she's scared of herself, and then decides: I'll just erase Alice!

** Yes, let's talk about Jack for a minute. Normally yanderes visibly go ''nuts'' when their loved one is threatened. and the madness stays with them. Alternatively, sociopaths are extremely good at faking emotion and acting friendly but go a little deeper and they simply don't care . ''Jack is neither''. He is completely, utterly rational and reasonable in his actions regarding Lacie even when they're obviously insane and he never shows anything other than a genuine smile even when he's planning something incredibly twisted. He is a DoggedNiceGuy taken to the ''extreme'' and gets creepier when you think about it. The fact that he creeps out a ''Baskerville'' should clue you in about how disturbing this guy is.

[[spoiler:Reduced to fragments of his soul desperately holding on to life, de-aging back to a baby and then returning to his former age without really knowing what was happening, ''several times''. All the while never being completely sure that he would still exist after this cycle.]]
* Lacie and Alyss are both extremely psychotic. It's completely disturbing to see both of them laughing while blood spurts everywhere. Then again, considering their respective pasts, maybe it's understandable.

* How about [[spoiler:Oswald's plan? He wants to go back into the past and kill his OWN SISTER, someone he cares about dearly. Dear lord, that's insane. Not only that, he wants to kill his own nieces. If you stop to think about it for a moment, it was Jack who got everyone where they are today-i.e, he gave Oz a body to inhabit, allowed Alice to live a life free of being in a tower and spared Gil the pain of killing Vincent when he became older. Now think about what happens when Oswald gets his way. Oz stays as the rabbit doll and never gets to interact with anyone, thus preventing him from ever befriending Gil and saving him from depression. Like it or not, Oswald, your nieces saved the world, so show some gratitude. Without them, the world is doomed. Oh, no Jack? Gilbert and Vincent are gonna die out on the streets because it was Jack who found them. Basically, Oswald's idea of "paradise" is 100 years of dictatorship under his rule, where only the Baskervilles are allowed to have chains, which means no one can fight back, no one can do what they want without "Glen-sama" deciding. Is he really wishing to save the world, or does he just want to control everyone in it? It becomes FridgeHorror when you see him gorily murder members of Pandora simply for disagreeing with him. Dear lord, what's he going to do when he rules over them? Would he really be a kind and caring ruler? He is walking Nightmare Fuel. Before, he wasn't so bad, but now he makes Jack look like a nice guy in comparison.]]

** There's also one of the Intention of the Abyss' forms: a rabbit in a dress with black, bleeding pits for eyes.
** She is also quite a frightening MoodSwinger, being angry towards Vincent, then suddenly crying, then just as suddenly cheering up when she noticed it's time for tea.
** If her wish to not be the Intention of the Abyss anymore is anything to go by, not even she is immune to the NightmareFuel.
* If you're a contractor and your clock goes around once, you will get dropped into the Abyss, which is a [[EldritchLocation nightmarish plane of existence]] that looks like a cross between a broken toy box and hell , and where you will most likely get eaten alive by [[EldritchAbomination Chains]]. If you don't, you'll end up [[AndThenJohnWasAZombie becoming one, anyway ]]
** There were some unlucky people who [[BodyHorror got their bodies warped]] by the power of the Abyss without turning into chains, being brought into a zombie-like state instead. What makes this worse is that it happens ''outside'' the Abyss itself. Granted, it also happens in a place where the Abyss' power is concentrated the most, but still!
** Picture this: you get dropped in The Abyss either because you were an [[DealWithTheDevil illegal contractor]] or because the Baskervilles sent you there, you somehow manage to return in the human world. You feel happy to see the sunlight again. Then, you realize something is wrong. Your surrounding look like a dilapidated version of the building you were in when you fell in The Abyss. That's right, what seemed like an hour in there was [[YearOutsideHourInside TEN YEARS in our world]].
