Caine's apparent suicide from the perspective of the witnesses. Imagine you and a few of your colleagues come in to top off your tanks before going back out. Another worker comes into the bay, but you don't pay it much mind; people wander in from time to time. You continue to fill up, then you hear the klaxon sound. Automatically you turn to see who's coming in--and you see the guy who came in walking into the elevator airlock without a suit. Quickly you and others unplug and rush to stop him, but by the time you reach him he's already entered the elevator and the hatch seals behind him. The disturbing thing is that he's smiling the whole time. Helplessly you watch as the elevaror begins its descent, knowing what will happen shortly thereafter and wishing you didn't.
