She nonetheless manages to take him down in a truly gruesome way, [[EyeScream taking out one of his eyes and ramming a dagger into his skull]]. The fact that he gets up again, wounded but still able to carry on shows that he is more than a mere human and surely enough, Lyla is killed with a single strike once he gets his hands on her.
*Valerie Sand is introduced to the story as a sorceress of likely greater power and even less morals than Aisha. She bewitches Jamison and a dozen other men to cover her retreat during the Battle for Vaith, which proves that she herself is the true witch of Vaith. Later on, it is revealed that she has bewitched even her own mother for her goals and is responsible for a number of gruesome sacrifices to her dark god. The worst part about it is that she managed to escape, meaning she can continue th pursuit of her nefarious goals elsewhere.
*Jamison's fight during the battle for Vaith manages to be equal parts, this and a moment of awesome. Deprived of his free will, but not his skill with a blade, we get to see Jamison for the first time without his swagger, his playful arrogance and teasing. In this moment, he becomes a true killing machine, not even focussing on keeping himself alive. He easily beats down a number of opponents, killing Vyran the Lion with ease and even besting Dalia, before being brought down by the AbsurdlySharpBlade of Kris Vaith.
