* While Dr. Mundo is still a goofy character even after his rework, it doesn’t hide the fact that he was essentially tortured during his stay at Oswald Asylum. Coupled with what he does to his “patients”, [[ObliviouslyEvil/even if he thinks he’s helping them]], the contrast between his goofiness and his dark story makes him very unsettling.

* He may be a source of humorous memes, but don't forget that Dr. Mundo is still an abomination of a man whose "operations" are terrifying enough to make the hardiest of Zaunites lock their doors and hide.

** The third phase is the most intricate: the camera is right up to the window, and we see more of what Briar is up to stuck in her cell: humming, whistling, and dancing by herself (while still locked in the spiky pillory), taking very loud power naps, exercising... wondering more about snacks and lamenting "I miss eating...", [[LaughingMad creepily laughing to herself]], and occasionally noticing -- much to her excitement -- [[AddressingThePlayer that the viewer is still there]] and slinking up to the window, [[GrossUpCloseUp giving us a very clear look at her gaunt, pale face and completely white eyes]]. Eventually she begins an attempt at conversation, and [[DissonantSerenity despite her remaining just as chipper, it's not reassuring]], it gives us confirmation that [[OurVampiresAreDifferent whatever she is, it's not "human"]]:

* Briar's reveal trailer, [[Feeding Frenzy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzVTONHA5h4]], picks up immediately after she kills the guard in her teaser and the situation goes FromBadToWorse. The prison is immediately thrown into chaos as the other guards fearfully shout that she's gotten blood, and after Briar busts out of her cell and gets enraged by her "friend" being roughed up by the soldiers, the results, while stylized, ''aren't pretty''. She goes into a frenzy and begins [[MookHorrorShow butchering every single guard]] that gets in her way as she makes her escape, with the visuals indicating she's very ''literally slicing them to pieces'' if not [[HalfTheManHeUsedToBe bisecting]] or [[OffWithHisHead decapitating]] them, with one guard in particular getting his ''head cut in half''. And while all this is happening, the horrified janitor, unaware that he's been designated as her "escape buddy", desperately tries to flee as Briar slaughters the guards as she pursues him to keep up.

* On the surface, Nilah seems like the least likely candidate you'd see on this page. A peppy, perky girl who fights demons and monsters with a smile on her face. And then you read her backstory. The woman we known as Nilah is, for all intents and purposes, a shell being commanded by a demon of joy after she reemerged from the Runeterra version of the seventh layer of Hell. She's always happy because she's literally incapable of feeling any other emotion, and all memory of who she was originally was completely erased from record, memory, everything.

** Following this final comment, the camera finally starts to move in closer to the cell, [[SchmuckBait putting themselves in close to look around for sight of Briar]]. We finally catch her hiding in a dark corner... [[JumpScare where she pounces on the camera so fast that there isn't even a scream]], only a ''very'' violent sound of fangs being sunk into bloody flesh. Following a CutToBlack, the scene fades back in to a wide shot of the door, now completely busted apart and Briar missing.

** For starters, the teaser wasn't given an official announcement -- instead, the home page of the game client [[NothingIsScarier quietly received an extra tab simply labeled "Forbidden"]]. Clicking on it suddenly gave you an empty shot of a dark dungeon corridor with a lone door at the end, marked only by quiet rumbling of ambience, clinking of chains, and a [[NotSoInnocentWhistle unnervingly cheery whistling coming out of the lone door]].
** A day after the teaser was discovered, it was updated to a second phase with the tab retitled to "Warning". The camera shifted much closer to the door, and through the bars of its window, we got our first look of Briar: a lithe young woman casually walking around in a cell, but locked up what appears to be a very intricate and uncomfortable-looking pillory. Briar ends up noticing the viewer and begins making passing comments, trying to catch their attention by saying hello several times in a surprisingly casual, upbeat, almost dorky tone of voice... [[MoodWhiplash until she makes the comment to herself "I'm soooooo hungry...", and begins screaming out of nowhere.]]

* The general feeling of trying to escape from a large mob when you're outnumbered.

*** Eerily enough, this even hits in a meta fashion as well. Imagine being a powerful, pivotal member of your team, and can kill anyone when the situation calls for it. Now imagine Mordekaiser finding a way to kill you and take your ghost for himself. Now imagine watching powerlessly as Mordekaiser and your ghost, to wipe out your entire team while you can't do anything about it. It fills you with a dreadful sinking feeling in your stomach, and it's horrifying.

* Recent lore updates to champions (specifically Aatrox and Varus) and background stories have given a more specific grasp upon what a Darkin actually is; being once accended warriors who climbed the ranks and became heroes that lost their way after Xereth killed Azir thousands of years ago. Becoming blinded by grief and anger, they took their anger out on Shurima's people until they were stopped and sealed within their own weapons. With context taken from Aatrox's new voice lines and a [[https://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/8tr8y9/new_darkin_lore_updates/e19prn5/ Reddit commenter]] to put it into perspective, the life of a Darkin would be horrible for anyone, let alone heroes.
