* The empty pants.
** Because while those empty pants are actually friendly and not only that but quite sensitive, there's a bit of NothingIsScarier in action because you never find out how they ''work''. They levitate along, walking above ground, have feelings, can see and hear without eyes and ears, and on the last page, they ''talk''.

* Several examples from ''Oh The Places You'll Go'':
** It depicts [[https://juliesarkisscoach.files.wordpress.com/2015/07/youll-look-up-and-down-streets.jpg streets you don't want to go down,]] riddled with holes that reveal huge lizard-like monsters. Good thing the protagonist walked the other way...
** One of the first signs that things might not be all smooth sailing for you in life is when the protagonist crashes his balloon, and the others leave without him. Coming down from the lurch, he ends up in a "a Slump" which is apparently [[http://photobucket.com/gallery/user/PlatinumOx/media/bWVkaWFJZDo2MTgyMDgyNQ==/?ref= a dark place filled with big, shapeless]] ''[[NothingIsScarier ...things.]]''
** He then comes upon [[https://i.ytimg.com/vi/p_2muj6fxpc/maxresdefault.jpg a mysterious town,]] where there are few lights, no street markings, [[GhostCity and no sign of any life.]] [[NothingIsScarier We never do find out what the deal with this place is, either.]]
** Confused and scared, he starts to run at "break-necking speed" through [[http://hopeandcourage.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/start-into-race.jpg "weirdish wild space"]] (a phrase Lovecraft might be proud of), which leads him to...
** The [[https://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/seuss/images/6/61/The_Waiting_Place.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20121119234340 waiting]] [[https://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/seuss/images/2/26/The-waiting-place.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20140828194813 place.]] Imagine just ''waiting'' for something. [[AndIMustScream Forever. Forever. Forever. Forever.]]
** Imagine playing on [[https://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/seuss/images/e/e6/Dr_seuss_house.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20130117202644 this building.]] Heck, imagine doing ''anything'' on that building. [[AdultFear Adult fear]] at its finest.
** It talks about times when you will feel alone and scared, and demonstrates this by [[http://az616578.vo.msecnd.net/files/2015/03/25/635629231048550945-829518010_alone.imgopt1000x70.png showing our hero being menaced by dark creatures with evil eyes.]]
** ...followed by a spooky boat ride, surrounded by things called [[http://i1.w.hjfile.cn/slide/201204/19_4173.jpg Hakken-Kraks,]] giant [[SeaMonster sea monster]]-like creatures that ''howl''. Sure, it might not ''seem'' like the scariest thing in the book, but imagine what it would be like, from the boy's POV, in real life. Just think about it...
** Similarly, [[http://i1.w.hjfile.cn/slide/201204/21_4173.jpg the following illustration]], of the protagonist getting "mixed up with many strange birds" doesn't seem too scary at first glance, but again, imagine doing it in real life. It's even worse than that building...
** Not to mention [[https://seussblog.files.wordpress.com/2014/02/oh-the-places-you-ll-go-dr-seuss-screenshot-4.jpg?w=640 the green and black-striped creature that fills up two pages, even though the boy didn't seem very scared of it.]]
