As he fell, the introduction text mentions him being captured over 15 times by his enemies, being tortured without any damage taken at all, chains snapping when they tried to hang him, guillotine blades shattering when they tried to decapitate him, and spears snapping like twigs when they tried to impale him; this has gone on long enough that he's taken up attempting suicide as a hobby. It's later revealed that this absurd toughness is because [[spoiler:he is infusing himself with Conqueror's Haki ''and'' advanced Armament Haki at the same time, in addition to the absurd toughness he has as a Mythical Zoan, making him a borderline case between this and MadeOfIron - it's ''very'' hard to hurt him at all, and as everyone discovers in the Onigashima arc, even if you ''can'' hurt him, it takes an ''absurd'' amount of punishment to bring him down. As a result, it's said in-story that nothing in the world, not even ''[[PersonOfMassDestruction the other Emperors]]'', can fight him one-on-one and have a chance of winning. At the beginning of the Wano arc, [[spoiler:Luffy knocks him down with Gear Third, which leads to Kaido changing back from his dragon form to his human form. Then, Luffy uses his most powerful attacks on Kaido in Gear Fourth, only for it to be revealed he didn't even hurt Kaido. Seconds later, Luffy, ''still in Gear Fourth'', got oneshotted. While Luffy's training later enabled him to actually start dealing damage, it took ''three separate'' NextTierPowerUp boosts - (Advanced Armament, Conqueror's Haki infusion, and finally, Luffy Awakening his Devil Fruit ) - before he could finally fight Kaido more or less evenly.]]

No in-story reason for his incredible resilience is given (yet) but it remains an in-story fact that he does have it, making him a borderline case between this and MadeOfIron. As a result, it's said in-story that nothing in the world, not even [[PersonOfMassDestruction other pirate emperors]], can take him one-on-one and have a chance of winning. This comes to head when [[spoiler:Luffy takes him down with Gear Third that changed Kaido back from his dragon form to human and then uses his most powerful attacks on Kaido in Gear Fourth, only to be knocked out in one hit by Kaido, who has no injuries but treated those attacks as ''an annoyance''! However, Kozuki Oden was revealed to have managed to hurt him enough to leave a permanent scar on his side, and his 8 loyal samurai retainers have been able to (mildly) wound him.]]

** The Whitebeard pirates first division commander Marco "The Phoenix" can [[HealingFactor regenerate]] with his blue phoenix flame, due to his ultra rare Mythical Zoan power.
** [[spoiler:The Five Elder Stars]] show a positively unnerving example whenever they get injured. For lesser things like stab wounds, as soon as the blade comes out the wound just ''stops existing'' like it had never happened, with even the spilled blood disappearing. For greater things like ''getting blown into little pieces'', they just pull themselves back together in moments like nothing ever happened. [[spoiler:Saint Jaygarcia Saturn]] makes a point of showing off this bizarre unkillability by [[TheLawOfDiminishingDefensiveEffort refusing to dodge anything]] and letting this harm-unmaking ability prove [[HopeCrusher standing against him is pointless]].
