* ''Manga/YakumoSanWaEdzukeGaShitai'': Yamato is an honest, straightforward guy who always tries his best no matter how much grief it gets him from others. It takes a lot to rile him up and he's always thankful for Yakumo's meals.

** This applies to the entire cheer team, given how quickly the accept Ishigami as one of their own despite the rumors surrounding him and [[TheEeyore how out of place he is]] among them.

* The eponymous Haruka from ''LightNovel/NogizakaHarukaNoHimitsu'' is a really, really nice moe girl and also, an otaku.

* ''Anime/MyHeroAcademia'' has several nice characters:
** The main protagonist, Izuku Midoriya, a.k.a Deku. Despite being born without a Quirk, Deku happens to be a kind, selfess guy at heart who is willing to risk his life to protect others. In fact, his personality and his selflessness is one of the reasons he was caught attention from his favorite childhood hero, All-Might.
** Ochako Uraraka is a friendly and charming girl who is most of the time seen with a smile in her face. Her primary motivation is to be a good heroine to earn money to support her parents, but that doesn't prevent her from helping people in need whenever she can.
** Eijiro Kirishima is an easygoing guy who is so friendly and thick-skinned he even manages to be on decent terms with [[HairTriggerTemper Bakugou]] of all people. WordOfGod himself describes him and his best friend [[ChivalrousPervert Kaminari]] as [[TheHeart the characters who bring the class together.]]
** Though she can be rather blunt, Momo Yaoyorozu is a sweet, compassionate person and she happily invites her classmates for a study session at her manor and gives them what are clearly very expensive sweets and tea during their stay, eagerly helping them pass the written portion of their exams.

* There's practically no malicious guy in ''Manga/CardcaptorSakura''. The worst of them is JerkWithAHeartOfGold and OmniscientMoralityLicense holder who knows that everything he'll done will turn out allright in the end.

* ''NiceGuy/AxisPowersHetalia''

* The majority of the characters in ''Anime/ALittleSnowFairySugar'' are all nice people, with even the worst people [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold having hidden soft sides underneath]].

* Dekisugi from ''Anime/{{Doraemon}}'' is this because his character is based on a perfect archetype of a Japanese schoolboy, in contrast of [[TheHero Nobita]], who's a bit of a brat. In the [[TheMovie movies]], however, Nobita is upgraded into this trope, if not outright AllLovingHero.

** There's also Tom Tanaka, who's primary character trait appears to be that he is the lone normal, untraumatized, nice guy [[DysfunctionJunction in a city of absolute nutters]]. Bizarrely, it's [[BecauseYouWereNiceToMe this very trait that let him befriend]] the ''most'' unstable character in the series, [[TheBerserker Shizuo Heiwajima]].
** [[NaiveNewcomer Yoshimune]] from [[NoExportforYou 3 Way Standoff]] plays this trope straight though.

* Takehiko Yoichi from ''LightNovel/HaiyoreNyarkoSan'' wears the term "nice guy" like a glove. Being a minor character he doesn't get much screentime, but he's cool enough to pass off Nyarko's madcap antics as merely being "energetic", and at one point remarks "My best friend has a cute girlfriend, and that makes me as happy as if it had happened to me." [[spoiler:About the biggest thing that's happened to him so far is [[GrandTheftMe temporarily having his body hijacked]] by a time-traveling alien extremist.]]
** [[DudeLooksLikeALady Hasta]] as well. Cute, sweet, cuddly and good-hearted young boy. So much so that of all the characters in Mahiro's harem that consist of Franchise/CthulhuMythos, he's the only person who didn't receive the wrong end of the fork from Mahiro.

* Takeshi Yamamoto from ''Manga/KatekyoHitmanReborn'' is the friendliest of Tsuna's guardians. Until you hand him a baseball bat... or a sword... or hurt his friends... [[BewareTheNiceOnes then prepared to be sliced to pieces]].

* [[AdorablyPrecociousChild Yuuno Scrya]] of ''Anime/MagicalGirlLyricalNanoha''. Being a BarrierWarrior (high tier is an understatement) with a bit of HealingHands carried the [[WaveMotionGun Inverted-for-titular-heroine]] PersonalityPowers UpToEleven.

* Along with Mai's brother Takumi, Kazuya Kurauchi is one of the genuinely nicer members of ''Anime/MaiHime''[='s=] male cast, shown as a diligent worker and concerned with his girlfriend Akane's safety. He doesn't get much screen time, though, as [[spoiler:he's the [[SacrificialLamb first one to get killed]].]]

* Asahi Kuromine from ''Manga/MyMonsterSecret'' is the nicest, most accepting guy in the world; he'll treat you with the same kindness whether you're a former [[JapaneseDelinquents Delinquent]], a FriendlyNeighborhoodVampire, a [[{{Lilliputians}} Lilliputian]] alien in a MobileSuitHuman, whatever. And even though [[CannotTellALie he can't tell a lie to save his life]], if you [[SecretKeeper entrust him with a secret]] he ''will'' move Heaven and Earth to protect it. In a more serious story, he'd become a full-on MessianicArchetype; here he still gets close, [[spoiler:since he decides to become a teacher and look after non-human students in order to ensure that they and regular humans can peacefully co-exist.]] However, his niceness can actually be a problem since he has a tendency to put others' needs before his own and will run himself ragged trying to help them out, something that his LoveInterest Youko Shiragami has repeatedly asked him to stop doing.

* Itsuki Tachibana from ''Anime/PhantasyStarOnline2''.

* Randel Oland from ''Anime/{{Pumpkin Scissors}}'' has this in spades, in addition to being a KindheartedCatLover and a GentleGiant. [[BewaretheNiceOnes Just don't piss him off.]] [[ImplacableMan Seriously.]]

* ''{{Manga/Saki}}'':

* [[{{Narrator}} Chihiro]] [[IJustWantToHaveFriends Watanuki]] from ''Manga/YugamiKunNiWaTomodachiGaInai'' is a female example. While everyone ignores her classmate [[TheProtagonist Yuuji]] [[LonersAreFreaks Yugami]], who sits next to her, because they find him a pain to deal with, Chihiro talks to him frequently despite his BrutalHonesty. Even when he offends her, Chihiro never holds a grudge and always thanks Yugami properly whenever he (sometimes unwittingly) helps her.
** On the other hand, Yugami ''appears'' to be this when we first meet him, helping [[NewTransferStudent Chihiro]] find an empty slot for her bike in the school's bike lot. Unfortunately subverted for Chihiro when she meets Yugami again in class, as he is [[IWorkAlone completely]] [[LeaveMeAlone different]] from the NiceGuy she thought she'd met just moments ago.

* ''Anime/{{Pokemon}}'':
** Ash Ketchum. He's pretty much the nicest and sweetest character in that anime. Early on he had a more brash and immature personality but has mellowed out dramatically. Even flashbacks tend to portray him as the Nice Guy he became post-CharacterDevelopment rather than the bratty IdiotHero he was in Kanto.
** Tracey, who replaced Brock for one half-season, is the embodiment of this trope. He's so polite and mild-mannered that many viewers write him off as bland and uninteresting. He [[LampshadeHanging Lampshades]] it in one side episode--after being pressured by Misty's oldest sister to clean the Gym, he's seen with a push broom and a sad expression, saying "Sometimes it doesn't pay to be the nice guy." (Just [[BerserkButton don't insult Professor Oak]] in front of him.)
** Brock is no slouch, either. As TeamMom, he cooks and cares for his younger friends, provides help and encouragement with endless good-natured patience, and rarely loses his temper ([[ChivalrousPervert when pretty girls aren't involved]]).
** There's also Ash's companion in ''Best Wishes'': Cilan, who is always trying to settle things between characters that fight. [[BewaretheNiceOnes Just don't piss him off...]] [[CuteAndPsycho you really don't want to piss him off.]]
** And then there's Luke who is one of the nicest of Ash's rivals/friends who doesn't insult him. His nice guy attitude is how he's able to put up with [[GenkiGirl Bianca]]'s quirks but [[BewaretheNiceOnes even he]] [[BerserkButton has his limits.]]
** Out of Ash's female companions, while all of them are overall nice and kind-hearted ([[YouWontLikeMeWhenImAngry as long as you don't make them angry]]), Serena definitely takes the cake as the most sweet-tempered and gentle. It says a lot that she's the only one who doesn't ''immediately'' get annoyed at him when he does something rash, and the one time she ''did'' snap at him, it was because he wasn't being himself, and she [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone immediately felt horrible for doing it.]]

* In ''Manga/YamadaKunAndTheSevenWitches'':
** Yamada himself starts out as a JerkWithAHeartOfGold, but has generally become a nice guy by the time of the second witch war. He still has a couple of CharacterCheck moments here and there where he may act a bit unreasonable, but he's usually pleasant to hang around with, and he's a sufferer of ChronicHeroSyndrome.
** Shiraishi is friendly and caring all the time (save the occasional InnocentlyInsensitive or snarky comment), if not always good at showing her emotions clearly.
** Hotaru is usually cheerful, and he's polite and pleasant towards others.
** When Otsuka's telepathy alter ego doesn't rear its ugly head, she's a fairly nice and gentle girl.
** Sarushima is one of the friendliest characters in the series and generally the most sociable, well-adjusted and accommodating of the witches (at least before Shiraishi gets some CharacterDevelopment).
** [[JerkassToOne To anyone who's not her big brother]], Tatsumi is always cheerful, accomodating and polite.
** Alex has a slightly mischievous side to him, but other than that, he's an easygoing MellowFellow who's always in a good mood and up for hanging out with others.
** Konno was originally really nice (to the point of being a people-pleaser) and becomes it again (though much better at standing up for herself this time) after Yamada helps her.
** Kotori is so helpful that she borders on being an ExtremeDoormat. Nobody is forcing her but she still protects her whole class against the powers of other witches, which comes with of having to constantly read their minds, when they're not even her friends. She also has a friendly and polite, if a bit cautious, attitude beyond that.
** Chikushi can seem a bit aloof, but she's reasonably friendly to those who get to know her, and her Masked JK project certainly shows that she cares about others.
** Even though Seishuin looks a bit threatening when she appears, she's a nice person and gladly cooperates with the student council so that Yamada can copy her power.
** Downplayed with Kikuchi. She's stoic, rushed and not one for casual small talk, but still very polite and cooperative.
** Himekawa is gentle, compassionate and puts others' well-being and injuries well before her own.
** Arisugawa is generally very good-natured, though she can also be slightly mischievous and is a skilled manipulator.

* ''Anime/YuGiOh'':
** In the first series, Normal Yugi. Unfortunately for him, his [[LovesMyAlterEgo love interest]] is into his [[AllGirlsWantBadBoys darker]] [[SuperPoweredEvilSide alter ego]].
** Bakura Ryou is also a genuinely kind, gentle, shy young man. Too bad the SuperpoweredEvilSide that came with his ClingyMacguffin has a penchant for either killing or inflicting a FateWorseThanDeath on those who cross him.
** Tea also falls for NiceGirl as she is always there for her friends, is extremely supportive, and has the kindest heart.
** Judai Yuki in ''Anime/YuGiOhGX'' probably qualifies too. In one episode, he accepts a challenge from an Obelisk snob with a wager, where the winner gets to be Asuka's fiancee -- despite the fact that he honestly doesn't know what a fiancee is. Somewhat deconstructed in the later seasons as the escalating risks and losing his friends take a toll on him. This culiminates in revealing he has a SuperPoweredEvilSide that causes him no end of problems later, and once he recovers from it, not everyone is pleased with the fact that he seems to be [[CharacterDevelopment much more serious]] from the experience.
*** On that note, Johan is probably a straighter example than Judai. He actually is a genuine nice guy, with no SuperPoweredEvilSide trying to say take over, and selfless enough to pull a HeroicSacrifice. ''Twice.'' And that for people he barely knows. NiceGuy ahoy.
** Yusei is also a NiceGuy. Appearances and backstory aside, he is extremely heroic, friendly, kind-hearted, mature, caring, and selfless.
*** After her CharacterDevelopment, Akiza becomes a very nice, sweet, kind-hearted young woman.
** Yuma Tsukumo of ''Zexal'', like the other protagonists before him will always choose his friends over himself.
** Yuya Sakaki in ''ARCV'' continues this trope. He is a fun-loving, cheerful, and caring kid who all he wants to do is make the world smile as a "Entertainment Duelist".

* ''Manga/SailorMoon'':
** Usagi Tsukino (aka Sailor Moon), the main character of the show, is one of the friendliest and most compassionate heroes in anime and manga, once you get past her brattiness. During the R season, even though Chibiusa causes the Senshi a lot of trouble and makes it clear that she has no respect for Usagi as a person or as a Senshi, Usagi constantly reaches out to her, and allows herself to be viciously attacked by Rubeus to keep Chibiusa safe. She even tries to lift the spirits of an enemy (though she doesn't know it) who is actively going after Mamoru, her boyfriend and future husband!
** Minako Aino (aka Sailor Venus), of who Usagi is an {{Expy}} of. While rough around the edges and rather HotBlooded, Minako will help ''everyone'', even to her own detriment (a classic example comes from ''Manga/CodenameSailorV'', where she helped a mangaka who was late with her job without expecting to be paid even after finding out how hard it was, and when paid didn't put up much resistance when Artemis told her to give it back). This is balanced by [[BewareTheNiceOnes how ruthless she is with those who threatens her friends or mission]].
** Ami Mizuno (aka Sailor Mercury) is generally the most peaceful and down-to-Earth, Senshi, though she isn't without her moments of BewareTheNiceOnes ("Ami's First Love" being the best example).
** Despite her [[JapaneseDelinquents apparent]] [[HugeSchoolgirl thuggish]] appearance and reputation for getting into brawls, Makoto Kino (aka Sailor Jupiter) is a sensitive, generous soul who would never harm an innocent person. Like Ami, she is also an example of BewareTheNiceOnes as she'll [[BullyHunter gladly take on somebody who she sees mistreating others.]]
** Setsuna Meioh (aka Sailor Pluto) also counts, in contrast to the [[SmugSuper Outer]] [[IWorkAlone Senshi]], as she is the only Outer willing to cooperate with and help the Guardian Senshi, and is very caring and warm towards Chibiusa.
** Among the lesser characters, Naru Osaka and Hikaru Sorano (who only appears in ''Manga/CodenameSailorV'') are almost as nice as Usagi, with Hikaru being so nice that Artemis once wished ''she'' was Sailor V.

* ''Manga/{{Naruto}}'':
** Rock Lee. So much so, that he ''forgave'' Gaara for nearly crippling him for life and ending his career as a shinobi. Which is why [[WordOfGod Kishimoto]] said he needs no CharacterDevelopment.
** [[TheBigGuy Chouji Akimichi]] is another example. He's a huge softie, getting emotional when [[spoiler:he has to fight his reanimated sensei]], and both his father and sensei state that his kind nature is his greatest quality.
** Naruto Uzumaki. His kindness and NotSoDifferent properties have redeemed psychopaths, unrepentant killers, as well as starting to affect the [[EldritchAbomination Kyuubi]]. After he saves Konoha from Pain, it appears the village finally sees these qualities. It becomes more prominent after the TimeSkip. Having now friends and loved ones to take care of and vice versa, he was able to fully show off his caring side. Ever since he defeated and made peace with his EnemyWithout, though, he's moved somewhat closer to being an AllLovingHero, to boot.
** Early Naruto was more a JerkWithAHeartOfGold -- a foolhardy braggart who couldn't really understand how the people around him would feel about some of his behaviour, and sometimes made things worse because of his stupidity or boastfulness. Then again, he was viewed as an outcast for something he couldn't control and the isolation caused him to resent the village. He ended up choosing to become ThePrankster as a means of getting attention, viewing it preferable than being looked at as not human. Once people accept for who he is and gains friends, he shows off that he really is a kind person, attributes that get expanded upon in filler.
** Hinata Hyuga, Naruto's LivingEmotionalCrutch [[spoiler:and future wife]]. This is easily her most definitive and persistent character trait during the entire series, more so than any other female in the series. How nice is she? She forgave Neji for ''almost killing her''. Also, she doesn't put on airs, act prissy and/or as Shikamaru would say, isn't overly aggressive, demanding, or even scary (unless for a very valid reason instead of something petty or trivial). Finally, of all the {{Canon}} girls Naruto has ever met, she is the only one who is by far the most sweet-tempered, honest, open-minded and patient towards him, despite all his flaws that made all the other girls (particularly {{Tsundere}}s like Ino and especially Sakura) condescending, mood-swingy and judgmental towards him. This trait of Hinata's is one of the reasons why she is one of the ''biggest'' {{Ensemble Darkhorse}}s in the whole series.
** Iruka Umino, Naruto's BigBrotherMentor. His occasionally explosive temper aside, he's a ''very'' pleasant person to be around, being the first person to relate to Naruto on a personal level and never saw him as the Kyuubi unlike most villagers (notable because Iruka's parents were killed by the demon). In fact, his recognition of Naruto (along with others following) was what kept Naruto from falling into the same pits of despair as those like him did. Iruka's also an example of this trope done ''right''--these very qualities are what make him an EnsembleDarkhorse, rather than the other way around (as the case would normally be).
** Minato Namikaze (aka Fourth Hokage); even his future wife thought (at first) that he was a sissy because of his nice and polite demeanor (though others viewed him as a prodigy.) [[spoiler: LikeFatherLikeSon ''and'' LikeParentLikeSpouse it would seem, considering that Naruto is his son and Hinata is Naruto's future wife]].
** The First Hokage, Hashirama Senju. [[spoiler: He is perfectly friendly and courteous to Sasuke, who at the time is trying to destroy his village and all he ever worked for.]]

*** Jonathan Joestar, who contrasts greatly with his {{Jerkass}} of an adoptive [[CainAndAbel brother]], [[BigBad Dio]]. Even when [[spoiler:Dio kills him]], he still loves him as his brother.
*** Jonathan's father, George Joestar I, who, like Jonathan, was never able to bring himself to hate Dio, even when he's killed by him. Though his strict treatment of Jonathan in his youth does cause this to become a DownplayedTrope, even if he came to regret it later.
*** William Antonio Zeppeli, Jonathan's kind [[TheMentor mentor]] who [[spoiler:willingly [[HeroicSacrifice sacrifices himself]] to save Jonathan without a second thought]].
** Erina Pendelton is shown to be a caring woman both in her youth and her old age. Best shown when she treated Smokey, an African-American, with kindness in an age that was rampant with racism.
** Robert E. O. Speedwagon, after Jonathan convinces him to [[HeelFaceTurn turn his life around]], becomes a kindhearted man who starts his own foundation that continues to support the Joestar family and others, even decades after his own death.
** Smokey Brown from ''Manga/BattleTendency'', after befriending Joseph, proves himself to be a kind and loyal friend.
** ''Manga/StardustCrusaders'':
*** Holly Kujo, as can be seen when she's taking care of Kakyoin.
*** Speaking of whom, Noriaki Kakyoin is the most outwardly kind of the Crusaders, as well as the groups [[TheHeart voice of reason]].
** Koichi Hirose is outright stated by Rohan to be honest and courageous when reading through him with Heaven's Door, as can be seen when his Stand awoke through his love for his family.
** ''Manga/DiamondIsUnbreakable'':
*** Josuke Higashikata, which is [[PersonalityPowers reflected]] through his [[FightingSpirit Stand]] [[GoodThingYouCanHeal ability]], though he has a HairTriggerTemper, especially regarding [[BerserkButton his hair]]. Jotaro lampshades this:

** While he's at first portrayed as a CreepyChild, once he's properly introduced, Emporio Alniño from ''Manga/StoneOcean'' is shown to be a kind kid who's loyal to the rest of the cast (with the exception of [[TokenEvilTeammate Anasui]]).
** ''Manga/SteelBallRun'':
*** Gyro Zeppeli, a kindhearted man who's shown to have trouble with killing people.
*** Pocoloco, an easygoing and humble guy who just wants to be able to relax.
** Like his [[AlternateUniverse Original Universe counterpart]], Josuke Higashikata from ''Manga/{{JoJolion}}'' is a sweet and earnest guy [[BewareTheNiceOnes so long as you don't attempt to screw him over]].

* ''WebComic/AxisPowersHetalia'': According to the last manga volume, Macau is one:

** Canada is soft-spoken, polite, and gentle, [[SiblingYinYang unlike his much more boisterous brother America]]. Though he does have something of a passive-aggressive streak, as [[BewareTheNiceOnes shown]] during his [[ReasonYouSuckSpeech 3-hour long rant to America]].
** Spain is a [[PerpetualSmiler perpetually-smiling]], easygoing and cheerful guy, who exhibits saintly patience with even the most patience-testing, including the ''[[UpToEleven extremely]]'' {{Tsundere}} Romano.
** Lithuania is kind, has a protective nature, and does his best to be helpful to others. Unfortunately for him, [[TheChewToy fate]] (and his [[WithFriendsLikeThese best friend Poland]]) often throw him under the bus.
** Cyprus is extremely peaceful and easygoing, and is constantly trying to get [[SitcomArchnemesis Turkey and Greece]] to stop fighting and get along.
** Luxembourg is a gentle and friendly PrincelyYoungMan with a fondness for [[NonHumanSidekick his pet dog Pelutze]]. He's sweet-tempered with his older sister Belgium and [[BigBrotherWorship very much admires]] his older brother [[NonIdleRich Netherlands]].
** Underneath [[FaceOfAThug his intimidating aura]], Sweden is this: He's not only a GentleGiant, but is very considerate, to the point that he personally resewed the clothing he gave to his friend Finland[[note]]They didn't fit him due to the height difference between them[[/note]] and was willing to live in a corner of their home to give Finland more space.

In one episode, he accepts a challenge from an Obelisk snob with a wager, where the winner gets to be Asuka's fiancee - despite the fact that he honestly doesn't know what a fiancee is. Somewhat deconstructed in the later seasons as the escalating risks and losing his friends take a toll on him. This culiminates in revealing he has a SuperPoweredEvilSide that causes him no end of problems later, and once he recovers from it, not everyone is pleased with the fact that he seems to be [[CharacterDevelopment much more serious]] from the experience.

While everyone ignores her classmate [[TheProtagonist Yuuji]] [[LonersAreFreaks Yugami]], who sits next to her, because they find him a pain to deal with, Chihiro talks to him frequently despite his BrutalHonesty. Even when he offends her, Chihiro never holds a grudge and always thanks Yugami properly whenever he (sometimes unwittingly) helps her.

* [[IdolSinger Eriko Hara]] from ''[[TheAnimeOfTheGame Venus Project: Climax]]''. She gets along real well with pretty much everyone, she lives in an orphanage and befriends many of the kids living there, and in a flashback, she also shows remorse for [[TheRival Ruka Sovagasky]] when she loses in Eriko's debut match. She also has a sense of honor, when she shakes hands with her defeated opponent after the first round of the Formula Venus tournament in the second episode of the anime.
* Komatsu from ''Manga/{{Toriko}}'' is a nice and gentle chef who almost never fights, even though his kitchen knife can [[AbsurdlySharpBlade split mountains]]. In fact, after he heard about the [[spoiler:Neo]] demon, which can [[VillainousGlutton eat all living things on a giant planet within a month]] and tends to torture his victims, because [[EmotionEater he likes the taste of fear and despair]], he immediately thought that he just hasn't eaten something that can satisfy him and found that something can fill his stomach and make him happy.

* ''LightNovel/UndefeatedBahamutChronicle'': [[TheHero Lux]] is defined by his righteousness and benevolence, to the point he destroyed the very kingdom he was supposed to inherit, simply because his father was an evil bastard.

Back when he was a human he threw himself in front of a guy's knife to save his co-worker and girlfriend's lives without hesitation, and in his slime reincarnation his excitable and kind nature have allowed him to befriend an imprisoned dragon, quell a war between goblins and wolves and make both sides become friends, and form friendships with some of the most powerful beings in the new world. It ''does'' help that [[SuperpowerLottery he's got one of the most broken power and skill sets around]], but he always tries to settle things peacefully and politely before using them, and that has earned him the respect, admiration, or love of all his subordinates. He didn't even ''try'' to form his own kingdom, it just kind of came together from all the people his attitude united.

* Aizawa Tomo from ''Manga/TomoChanIsAGirl'' is an [[SpiritedCompetitor overcompetitive]] [[FieryRedhead hothead]] with limited interpersonal skills and honestly SkewedPriorities[[note]](she got thrown out of the ladies' martial arts club at school largely because her difficulty holding back to the point of being disrespectful to her opponents left at least a couple traumatized instead)[[/note]] who is often at a loss as to how to deal with problems she cannot pound into submission. She is also generous to a fault, extraordinarily forgiving, helpful, kind, honest, loyal unto death, and artlessly oblivious about it all.

** Mihoko of Kazekoshi does all the chores for the mahjong club even though she, as a third-year and captain of the team, is exempt from them by virtue of seniority. When their [[DrillSergeantNasty coach]] threatens to punish players for minor mistakes that don't cost them the game, Mihoko stands up for them. She's also quite close to her teammate and friend Kana, the only one she [[FirstNameBasis addresses by her first name]], helping her look after her sisters when their parents are away. Mihoko does all this so that the others can enjoy mahjong more, and while this helps low-ranking players like Bundou push themselves to improve, it also causes the others to worry about Mihoko, which is not what she wants.
** Kinue of Himematsu is this [[SiblingYinYang compared to her older sister Hiroe]], who is a JerkWithAHeartOfGold.
** Toyone of Miyamori, [[MisunderstoodLonerWithAHeartOfGold although her extreme height makes her look somewhat imposing]].

* ''Manga/SailorMoon'':
** Usagi Tsukino (aka Sailor Moon), the main character of the show, is one of the friendliest and most compassionate heroes in anime and manga, once you get past her brattiness. During the R season, even though [=ChibiUsa=] causes the Senshi a lot of trouble and makes it clear that she has no respect for Usagi as a person or as a Senshi, Usagi constantly reaches out to her, and allows herself to be viciously attacked by Rubeus to keep [=ChibiUsa=] safe. She even tries to lift the spirits of an enemy (though she doesn't know it) who is actively going after Mamoru, her boyfriend and future husband!
** Minako Aino (aka Sailor Venus), of who Usagi is an {{Expy}} of. While rough around the edges and rather HotBlooded, Minako will help ''everyone'', even to her own detriment (a classic example comes from ''Manga/CodenameSailorV'', where she helped a mangaka who was late with her job without expecting to be paid even after finding out how hard it was, and when paid didn't put up much resistance when Artemis told her to give it back). This is balanced by [[BewareTheNiceOnes how ruthless she is with those who threatens her friends or mission]].
** Ami Mizuno (aka Sailor Mercury) is generally the most peaceful and down-to-Earth, Senshi, though she isn't without her moments of BewareTheNiceOnes ("Ami's First Love" being the best example).
** Despite her [[JapaneseDelinquents apparent]] [[HugeSchoolgirl thuggish]] appearance and reputation for getting into brawls, Makoto Kino (aka Sailor Jupiter) is a sensitive, generous soul who would never harm an innocent person. Like Ami, she is also an example of BewareTheNiceOnes as she'll [[BullyHunter gladly take on somebody who she sees mistreating others.]]
** Setsuna Meioh (aka Sailor Pluto) also counts, in contrast to the [[SmugSuper Outer]] [[IWorkAlone Senshi]], as she is the only Outer willing to cooperate with and help the Guardian Senshi, and is very caring and warm towards Chibiusa.
** Among the lesser characters, Naru Osaka and Hikaru Sorano (who only appears in ''Manga/CodenameSailorV'') are almost as nice as Usagi, with Hikaru being so nice that Artemis once wished ''she'' was Sailor V.

* Takuto, the main character of ''Anime/StarDriver'', is probably one of the nicest protagonists of any mecha anime ever. Friendly, helpful, respects anyone, up and including his enemies (except his ArchnemesisDad), and always finds something nice to say about someone. It shortly becomes a problem for him in the beginning of the second half of the story, though, when the Kiraboshi members manage to directly enter their Cybodies and Takuto has to find a way of destroying these mechas without actually harming their drivers.

Even flashbacks tend to portray him as the Nice Guy he became post-CharacterDevelopment rather than the bratty IdiotHero he was in Kanto.
** Tracey, who replaced Brock for one half-season, is the embodiment of this trope. He's so polite and mild-mannered that many viewers write him off as bland and uninteresting. He [[LampshadeHanging Lampshades]] it in one side episode--after being pressured by Misty's oldest sister to clean the Gym, he's seen with a push broom and a sad expression, saying "Sometimes it doesn't pay to be the nice guy." (Just [[BerserkButton don't insult Professor Oak]] in front of him.)
** Brock is no slouch, either. As TeamMom, he cooks and cares for his younger friends, provides help and encouragement with endless good-natured patience, and rarely loses his temper ([[ChivalrousPervert when pretty girls aren't involved]]).
** There's also Ash's companion in ''Best Wishes'': Cilan, who is always trying to settle things between characters that fight. [[BewaretheNiceOnes Just don't piss him off...]] [[CuteAndPsycho you really don't want to piss him off.]]

** Out of Ash's female companions, while all of them are overall nice and kind-hearted ([[YouWontLikeMeWhenImAngry as long as you don't make them angry]]), Serena definitely takes the cake as the most sweet-tempered and gentle. It says a lot that she's the only one who doesn't ''immediately'' get annoyed at him when he does something rash, and the one time she ''did'' snap at him, it was because he wasn't being himself, and she [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone immediately felt horrible for doing it.]]

It turns out he's such a softie that he's repeatedly stuck his neck out for Ranma, even if it means helping the girl he loves [[IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy stay together with his sworn enemy.]]

* ''Anime/ScienceNinjaTeamGatchaman'': [[TheBigGuy Ryu "The Owl" Nakanishi]] is by far the nicest and most considerate member of the group.
* Shouta Kazehaya from ''Manga/KimiNiTodoke'' is probably the most triumphant example in Shoujo manga, due to an anomaly that not only [[LoveInterest is he the object of Sawako's affection]], but he's also a ChickMagnet. He's [[MemeticMutation made of 100% fresh, squeezed fruit of friendship]], yet far from being a MartyStu. Probably his only ulterior motive for speaking to Sawako Kuronuma and befriending her is his desire to get to know her better. [[SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan Girls in this manga and anime prefer nice guys in general]], [[{{Reconstruction}} which makes them outstandingly different from]] Shoujo romances, which most of the time the female leads goes for the TroubledButCute and BastardBoyfriend types.
** Male leads who good are looking, popular, and nice guys are as common in Shoujo as their female counterparts are in Shonen; wish-fulfillment is large part of fiction after all.

* Jinto from ''LightNovel/CrestOfTheStars'', almost to the point of self-effacement. He's also IronWoobie and TheQuisling at the same time and thus makes an interesting protagonist despite having a less flashy personality than some of the other characters.
* Chrono in ''Manga/ChronoCrusade'' comes across as a gentle, sweet boy that's often abused by his more HotBlooded partner. And he ''is'' a genuine NiceGuy that "doesn't want to hurt anyone". However, he has the DarkAndTroubledPast and BerserkButton mentioned in the description, which means that when someone threatens one of his friends (''particularly'' Rosette), [[BewareTheNiceOnes things will turn out badly]].
* Kenshiro, in spite of inheriting the head-popping Martial Art known as ''Manga/FistOfTheNorthStar'' is a warm, gentle, sensitive and kind-hearted man who loves children and is [[ManlyTears not ashamed]] [[TenderTears to cry]]. That said, cruelty to the innocent is the one thing he will not abide, and he can be an ''utterly terrifying'' enemy when he is pissed.
* Kou from ''Manga/CrossGame'' and most Adachi protagonists show shades of this trope. You can actually ''see'' why girls would like them, as opposed to many shounen 'Nice Guys'.

* ''Manga/{{Barakamon}}'': Hiroshi is friendly and helpful, and act as a sort of big brother for the younger kids in the village. The teacher didn't punish him for dying his hair blond to look less [[RidiculouslyAverageGuy average]], because he saw how polite he was and just forgot it.
* L from ''Manga/DeathNote'' is an odd example. Despite his poor social skills and AntiHero status, he's fairly polite, accessible and civil. That, and [[FriendToAllChildren his soft side with children]].
* ''Manga/{{Gintama}}'': [[RobotMaid Tama]] is polite, gentle and helpful to everyone, and always listen to others problem . This is particularly notable in a serie where the majority of the cast, both male and female, often engage is ComedicSociopathy.
* Seras Victoria from ''Manga/{{Hellsing}}'' is impossibly sweet-natured and adorable. Piss her off though (or hurt Pip) and she'll [[BadassAdorable grind your face into a paste]].
* ''Manga/ElfenLied'':
** The male protagonist Kouta. Considering that this show is filled to the brim with [[TheWoobie Woobies]] (himself included), he ends up becoming quite an important character in the story ''because'' of this trope.
** Nana, despite her miserable life and the atrocious abuse she constantly suffers, she is always nice to everybody and, even when she gets serious, refuses to kill people.
* ''Franchise/{{Digimon}}'':
** Takato Matsuki from ''Anime/DigimonTamers''. The goggle-headed protagonist, he is not as hot-blooded as his predecessors or successors and is the normal one compared to his friends who have a myriad of issues. This, of course, gets deconstructed when it's revealed what happens when [[BewareTheNiceOnes he is pushed too far.]] This also applies to his Digimon partner Guilmon.
** Also Gabumon from the first season is easily the most gentle and polite of all the Digimon partners. He even took off his fur to warm Matt when Matt had a cold.
*** Interestingly Gabumon is the only Digimon partner of ''Anime/DigimonAdventure'' to [[BewareTheNiceOnes use physical force]] to snap his partner out of a [[HeroicBlueScreenOfDeath HBSD]]. Method used? BITING!
** ''Anime/DigimonAdventure02'' has Ken Ichijouji (after he stops being the Digimon Kaiser). There's a reason he carries the Crest of ''Kindness'', after all.
** Just like Takato, Haru Shinkai from ''Anime/DigimonUniverseApplimonsters'' also shares this trope. Yet even nicer than the previous google-heads.

He doesn't get much screen time, though, as [[spoiler:he's the [[SacrificialLamb first one to get killed]].]]
* Hirasawa Yui of ''Manga/KOn'' is the idealistic, innocent and warm heart that holds the "Afterschool Teatime" band together. Still, the other members and other recurring characters count as well.
* Jean Roque Raltique, from ''Anime/NadiaTheSecretOfBlueWater'', aside from being a nerd when it comes to technology and somewhat naive about social etiquette]], is arguably the nicest character in the show. He's sweet, loyal, devoted, and willing to forgive others instantly. (The Grandis gang when they help him save Nadia, and the latter for her often misdirected occasional outbursts of rage at him.) Even so, Jean does go through a brief period of grief [[spoiler:when he witnesses a friend of his die because of the technology he admires and later, learns about his dad's death]]. In one episode he also nearly strains his friendship with Hanson by trying to build a gyrocopter by himself (to impress Nadia), but soon acknowledges he can't do it alone. He also is quite brave; he puts his life in danger just to help the person he loves. And don't you dare try to hurt his friends in front of him.
* Mikage of ''Manga/ZeroSevenGhost''. [[spoiler:Complete with dying to motivate their hero buddy.]]

* Ayato from ''Anime/RahXephon'' is polite, friendly, easygoing and a decent human being. Amazingly, despite being the protagonist, he still manages to be a fascinating character.
* ''Manga/{{Naruto}}'':
** Rock Lee. So much so, that he ''forgave'' Gaara for nearly crippling him for life and ending his career as a shinobi. Which is why [[WordOfGod Kishimoto]] said he needs no CharacterDevelopment.
** [[TheBigGuy Chouji Akimichi]] is another example. He's a huge softie, getting emotional when [[spoiler:he has to fight his reanimated sensei]], and both his father and sensei state that his kind nature is his greatest quality.
** Naruto Uzumaki. His kindness and NotSoDifferent properties have redeemed psychopaths, unrepentant killers, as well as starting to affect the [[EldritchAbomination Kyuubi]]. After he saves Konoha from Pain, it appears the village finally sees these qualities. It becomes more prominent after the TimeSkip. Having now friends and loved ones to take care of and vice versa, he was able to fully show off his caring side. Ever since he defeated and made peace with his EnemyWithout, though, he's moved somewhat closer to being an AllLovingHero, to boot.
** Early Naruto was more a JerkWithAHeartOfGold - a foolhardy braggart who couldn't really understand how the people around him would feel about some of his behaviour, and sometimes made things worse because of his stupidity or boastfulness. Then again, he was viewed as an outcast for something he couldn't control and the isolation caused him to resent the village. He ended up choosing to become ThePrankster as a means of getting attention, viewing it preferable than being looked at as not human. Once people accept for who he is and gains friends, he shows off that he really is a kind person, attributes that get expanded upon in filler.
** Hinata Hyuga, Naruto's LivingEmotionalCrutch [[spoiler:and future wife]]. This is easily her most definitive and persistent character trait during the entire series, more so than any other female in the series. How nice is she? She forgave Neji for ''almost killing her''. Also, she doesn't put on airs, act prissy and/or as Shikamaru would say, isn't overly aggressive, demanding, or even scary (unless for a very valid reason instead of something petty or trivial). Finally, of all the {{Canon}} girls Naruto has ever met, she is the only one who is by far the most sweet-tempered, honest, open-minded and patient towards him, despite all his flaws that made all the other girls (particularly {{Tsundere}}s like Ino and especially Sakura) condescending, mood-swingy and judgmental towards him. This trait of Hinata's is one of the reasons why she is one of the ''biggest'' {{Ensemble Darkhorse}}s in the whole series.
** Iruka Umino, Naruto's BigBrotherMentor. His occasionally explosive temper aside, he's a ''very'' pleasant person to be around, being the first person to relate to Naruto on a personal level and never saw him as the Kyuubi unlike most villagers (notable because Iruka's parents were killed by the demon). In fact, his recognition of Naruto (along with others following) was what kept Naruto from falling into the same pits of despair as those like him did. Iruka's also an example of this trope done ''right''--these very qualities are what make him an EnsembleDarkhorse, rather than the other way around (as the case would normally be).
** Minato Namikaze (aka Fourth Hokage); even his future wife thought (at first) that he was a sissy because of his nice and polite demeanor (though others viewed him as a prodigy.) ** Tracey, who replaced Brock for one half-season, is the embodiment of this trope. He's so polite and mild-mannered that many viewers write him off as bland and uninteresting. He [[LampshadeHanging Lampshades]] it in one side episode--after being pressured by Misty's oldest sister to clean the Gym, he's seen with a push broom and a sad expression, saying "Sometimes it doesn't pay to be the nice guy." ** Brock is no slouch, either. As TeamMom, he cooks and cares for his younger friends, provides help and encouragement with endless good-natured patience, and rarely loses his temper ([[ChivalrousPervert when pretty girls aren't involved]]).

* ''Manga/MasterKeaton'': Taichii Hiraga Keaton is an all around nice guy who happens to be a former sergeant in the British Army and a veteran of the Falkland Wars. Now he's an adjunct archaeology professor who also works as an investigator for Lloyds of London. Keaton is free from all of the arrogance and eccentricities that are normally associated with very smart people. Frankly, Keaton tends to meet all sorts of eccentrics in his line of work. Although he can kick ass if he wanted to, he prefers to use his intellect. So he's also a pacifist.
* [[AdorablyPrecociousChild Yuuno Scrya]] of ''Anime/MagicalGirlLyricalNanoha''. Being a BarrierWarrior (high tier is an understatement) with a bit of HealingHands carried the [[WaveMotionGun Inverted-for-titular-heroine]] PersonalityPowers UpToEleven.
** [[Anime/MagicalGirlLyricalNanohaAs Hayate]] takes this UpToEleven. Just got four eternally loyal slaves? Treat them as family. Offered the chance to heal your paralyzed legs? Refuse it because innocent people would get hurt. [[TheOathbreaker Family does the one thing you told them not to do]]? Forgive them because they were trying to save you. [[PersonOfMassDestruction Become the most powerful person in the multiverse]]? Join TheFederation to make sure that no one suffers the way you did.
** [[Anime/VividStrike Roy Berlinetta]] was one of these [[PosthumousCharacter when he was alive]]. The very fist thing he was shown doing was buying hot treats for a group of orphans who were shoveling snow. And he doted on his adopted granddaughter Rinne (one of the aforementioned orphans).

* Max Sterling/Max Jenius of ''Anime/{{Robotech}}''/''Anime/{{Macross}}'' is an unusual example of a definite NiceGuy who is also TheAce. And he's not the main character either (He does, however, get HappilyMarried half-way through ''Anime/SuperDimensionFortressMacross'', which ''SDF''[='s=] actual main character doesn't even accomplish before the series ends).
* Yuji of ''LightNovel/ShakuganNoShana'' is an interesting variation of this whose niceness actually does get him girls. Ironically, instead of stifling romantic conflict, his niceness is also his greatest flaw, actually creating romantic conflict in the first half of Season 2, where he completely fails to realize that he can't give attention to every girl who's attracted to him without hurting the feelings of someone else, thus making him an accidental MasterOfTheMixedMessage. And his friend Hayato ''does'' call him out on that. [[spoiler:Eventually, he becomes less so through the course of the series and averts it after merging with the Snake of the Festival.]]

** Tea also falls for NiceGirl as she is always there for her friends, is extremely supportive, and has the kindest heart.
** Judai Yuki in ''Anime/YuGiOhGX'' probably qualifies too. In one episode, he accepts a challenge from an Obelisk snob with a wager, where the winner gets to be Asuka's fiancee - despite the fact that he honestly doesn't know what a fiancee is. Somewhat deconstructed in the later seasons as the escalating risks and losing his friends take a toll on him. This culiminates in revealing he has a SuperPoweredEvilSide that causes him no end of problems later, and once he recovers from it, not everyone is pleased with the fact that he seems to be [[CharacterDevelopment much more serious]] from the experience.

The series does not shy away from the flaws in these types of people -- mediocrity/lack of ambition (or killer instinct), spinelessness (unwilling to hurt others' feelings), and being really indecisive. He also isn't entirely perfect, but he puts up with a lot of crap from others. And yet, his innate kindness and decency, along with his willingness to grow, more than compensate in the long run.

** Ayumu Nishizawa is clearly a nice gal, paired with the fact that she's a normal person in a world where most of the rest of the cast are {{Ojou}}s really makes Hata have to work to keep her relevant, and he does.

** Despite being a quiet person (at least in the third OVA), Phill Fritz from ''SAGA'' and ''SIN'' is actually a pretty nice guy. It's just that Nagumo doesn't want him to have any contact with anyone outside his team.

** Jerome from the Retribution Arc can pretty much be considered a nice guy as well, as he is far more decent than some of the other guys around him.

* Dekisugi from ''Anime/{{Doraemon}}'' is this because his character is based on a perfect archetype of a Japanese schoolboy, in contrast of [[TheHero Nobita]], who's a bit of a brat. In the [[TheMovie movies]], however, Nobita is upgraded into this trope, if not outright AllLovingHero.
* ''Manga/DragonBall'' sports a cast of various Nice Guys and {{Dogged Nice Guy}}s among the heroes but Goku is one of the most famous in anime. So much so that nice guys of other {{Shonen}} series have been based on him and his cheerful nature. No matter how grim a situation looks, Goku is always optimistic and smiling. He even dies smiling twice! He also [[EasilyForgiven easily forgives]] any villain that tried to kill him and his friends 5 minutes ago if they are willing to to stop being evil.
** The only one who could pretty much outshine him in this department is his son Gohan, who lacks his father's Saiyan-related BloodKnight tendencies, though that doesn't mean he's a pushover: when he was a young boy he vaporized [[BigBad Cell]] with a one-handed Kamehameha while ''[[SlasherSmile grinning like a madman]]''.
** Goku's other son, Goten, is closer to Goku in personality and is no less kind-hearted. He, like Gohan, also largely lacks Goku's BloodKnight tendancies. He's also quite a bit more naive/[[IdiotHero dumber]] than Gohan is.
** Krillin started off as a BrattyHalfPint in the original ''Dragon Ball'', but eventually [[CharacterDevelopment outgrew it]], and by the time ''Anime/DragonBallZ'' rolled around he was fully this.
** Yamcha is pretty laid-back and easy to get along with. [[ButtMonkey Given how much crap he goes through]], it's pretty notable.

* Despite being a [[IdiotHero moron]], and sustaining physical abuse from his ''friends'', Akihisa from ''LightNovel/BakaAndTestSummonTheBeasts'' is generally a nice guy, and even HELPS the same friends who hurt him on a daily basis when they are in need.

* Madoka from ''Manga/RinneNoLagrange'' pilots a mecha because her friend she just made, asked her to.
* Both Belldandy and Keiichi of ''Manga/AhMyGoddess'' are nice people, each being the TropeCodifier for YamatoNadeshiko and NiceGuy respectively. In fact, their relationship exists because Keiichi was a fundamentally good enough person to attract a goddess's attention. Keiichi isn't a doormat; he's got a snarky personality and a backbone.
* Nossori, Morimori and Sewashi from ''Anime/MazingerZ'', the three professors worked in the Photon Atomic Energy Research Institute by assisting Prof. Yumi and designing upgrades for Mazinger-Z and Aphrodite A were genuinely nice: they were kind, good-natured and very patient (you have to be to deal with so many hot-headed, impatient teenagers), even if they were somewhat goofy.

* Tamaki in ''Manga/OuranHighSchoolHostClub''. His vices mostly come down to being an idiot, and a bit of a DramaQueen, but his all around niceness is the entire reason the club exists in the first place. He's the first person the twins met who actually cared which one was which, he calmly and quietly helped Haruhi when she was being bullied, and when he gave that bully what was coming to her, he still did so with politeness and grace. He's the top earner in the club, and as time goes on it becomes quite clear that it's because he's the only one there who is ''not'' acting to some degree or other and is in fact completely sincere. And that's not even going into how he deals with his BigScrewedUpFamily.
* There's practically no malicious guy in ''Manga/CardcaptorSakura''. The worst of them is JerkWithAHeartOfGold and OmniscientMoralityLicense holder who knows that everything he'll done will turn out allright in the end.
* Almost everyone from ''Anime/PrincessComet'', but the cake goes to [[TheHero Comet]] and [[TeenIdol Shun Imagawa]].
* Madoka of ''Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica'' really wants to help people and make them happy. But this being ''[[{{Deconstruction}} Madoka Magica]]'', things doesn't work out well. [[spoiler:Eventually, she became a MessianicArchetype by [[AscendToAHigherPlaneOfExistence sacrificing herself]], to help other magical girls to get out of their grief.]]
* [[{{Miko}} Tomoe]] from ''Anime/QueensBlade'' is very [[YamatoNadeshiko sweet, calm, polite, traditionally feminine/lady-like in the Japanese sense]] and is easily a candidate for one of the nicest girls (if not ''the'' nicest girl) in the series. [[BewareTheNiceOnes She's also one of the strongest characters in the series though, so pushing her too far wouldn't be a good idea.]]
* Akane from ''Anime/VividredOperation'' is a friendly and optimistic girl, willing to provide help to anyone who requires it.

* Nanami Momozono from ''Manga/KamisamaKiss'' is the nicest, friendliest person in the entire series and is incredibly optimistic even when things look to be at their worst.

In episode 7, Alice even help improve and teach Shinobu some English language skills (which Shinobu will later get a good grade in the following English test) and even help cheer Shinobu up when Alice finds out that Shinobu didn't do that well on her math test.

She's also quite close to her teammate and friend Kana, the only one she [[FirstNameBasis addresses by her first name]], helping her look after her sisters when their parents are away. Mihoko does all this so that the others can enjoy mahjong more, and while this helps low-ranking players like Bundou push themselves to improve, it also causes the others to worry about Mihoko, which is not what she wants.
** Kinue of Himematsu is this [[SiblingYinYang compared to her older sister Hiroe]], who is a JerkWithAHeartOfGold.
** Toyone of Miyamori, [[MisunderstoodLonerWithAHeartOfGold although her extreme height makes her look somewhat imposing]].

** Miho, who's kind and polite to her subordinates, the family servants, and many other people she's just met, even when said people are rude, hostile or threatening to her. In fact, the one time she gets angry with someone (her friend Emi, for saying that she hated Miho's sister Maho despite never having spoken to her), is treated as an OOCIsSeriousBusiness moment.
** [[WalkingSpoiler Koume Akeboshi]], Miho's former teammate, [[spoiler:whom she saved from drowning in the last tournament. She's grateful to Miho and worries about Miho after her departure from Black Forest, as Koume blames herself for causing Miho problems, rather than ostracizing her for sacrificing what might have been a tournament victory]].

** Enju Aihara is a 10-year-old cursed child and Initiator who (like many of the cursed children) [[AllOfTheOtherReindeer is treated as trash in society]], yet she has a kind, polite, friendly personality and a sweet young girl at heart. ** Seitenshi is a 16-year-old girl and a ReasonableAuthorityFigure ruler of Tokyo who happens to serve as a caring and compassionate motherly figure to many of the characters in the series. Heck, she's even pushing for civil rights for the cursed children.

[[spoiler:In fact, her kind-hearted nature of her personality and her hesitation to kill someone makes Rentaro realize that Tina isn't an evil person at heart and isn't the kind of person who is willing to kill someone out of free will.]]

* ''Manga/MakenKi'': In addition t being a KindheartedCatLover, Inaho is so compassionate, that when Takeru turned her down at the end of chapter 59, she accepted and asked Haruko to be good to him. But when Haruko fell into depression out of guilt, Inaho decided [[LoveTriangle they should compete for him]], to cheer her up -- despite knowing she had no chance of winning.
* ''Manga/RanmaOneHalf'': Though freakishly strong with a temper to match, Ryoga Hibiki really isn't all that bad once anyone gets to know him. It turns out he's such a softie that he's repeatedly stuck his neck out for Ranma, even if it means helping the girl he loves [[IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy stay together with his sworn enemy.]]
* [[{{Narrator}} Chihiro]] [[IJustWantToHaveFriends Watanuki]] from ''Manga/YugamiKunNiWaTomodachiGaInai'' is a female example. While everyone ignores her classmate [[TheProtagonist Yuuji]] [[LonersAreFreaks Yugami]], who sits next to her, because they find him a pain to deal with, Chihiro talks to him frequently despite his BrutalHonesty. Even when he offends her, Chihiro never holds a grudge and always thanks Yugami properly whenever he (sometimes unwittingly) helps her.
** On the other hand, Yugami ''appears'' to be this when we first meet him, helping [[NewTransferStudent Chihiro]] find an empty slot for her bike in the school's bike lot. Unfortunately subverted for Chihiro when she meets Yugami again in class, as he is [[IWorkAlone completely]] [[LeaveMeAlone different]] from the NiceGuy she thought she'd met just moments ago.
* ''Manga/BlueExorcist'' has the titular character [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold Rin]] [[HalfHumanHybrid Okumura]]. Is he the [[HeroicBastard bastard]] Son of {{Satan}}? Yes. Does he have the dreaded [[HellFire Blue Flames]] of his father? Yes. Does he have [[SuperStrength increased strength]] beyond a normal human being? Yes. Does he [[RealMenWearPink cook]]? [[SupremeChef Yes]]. Despite his heritage and NoSocialSkills, [[AntiAntiChrist Rin]] is a true NiceGuy with a DarkAndTroubledPast and AllOfTheOtherReindeer backstory (with a touch of [[JapaneseDelinquents delinquency]]) who's a BullyHunter and has a BerserkButton attached to hurting those he cares for (including his [[BigBrotherInstinct younger human twin Yukio]]) and picking on the weak. He also would make a ''fine'' HouseHusband and is frankly adorable. He also ''dislikes'' and makes a point of ''avoiding'' hurting humans as a point of him being a HunterOfHisOwnKind. BewareTheNiceOnes is strongly in effect though and pushing him to far results in one getting a fist to the face followed by a brutal beatdown for most. If not outright ''[[KillItWithFire roast you]]'' if you are a demon. And even ''then'' he's willing to TurnTheOtherCheek in certain situations. Considering Satan is referred to as the ''God'' of Gehenna, one wonders if he's on his way to becoming a MessianicArchetype...
* ''Manga/SailorMoon'':
** Usagi Tsukino (aka Sailor Moon), the main character of the show, is one of the friendliest and most compassionate heroes in anime and manga, once you get past her brattiness. During the R season, even though [=ChibiUsa=] causes the Senshi a lot of trouble and makes it clear that she has no respect for Usagi as a person or as a Senshi, Usagi constantly reaches out to her, and allows herself to be viciously attacked by Rubeus to keep [=ChibiUsa=] safe. She even tries to lift the spirits of an enemy (though she doesn't know it) who is actively going after Mamoru, her boyfriend and future husband!
** Minako Aino (aka Sailor Venus), of who Usagi is an {{Expy}} of. While rough around the edges and rather HotBlooded, Minako will help ''everyone'', even to her own detriment (a classic example comes from ''Manga/CodenameSailorV'', where she helped a mangaka who was late with her job without expecting to be paid even after finding out how hard it was, and when paid didn't put up much resistance when Artemis told her to give it back). This is balanced by [[BewareTheNiceOnes how ruthless she is with those who threatens her friends or mission]].
** Ami Mizuno (aka Sailor Mercury) is generally the most peaceful and down-to-Earth, Senshi, though she isn't without her moments of BewareTheNiceOnes ("Ami's First Love" being the best example).
** Despite her [[JapaneseDelinquents apparent]] [[HugeSchoolgirl thuggish]] appearance and reputation for getting into brawls, Makoto Kino (aka Sailor Jupiter) is a sensitive, generous soul who would never harm an innocent person. Like Ami, she is also an example of BewareTheNiceOnes as she'll [[BullyHunter gladly take on somebody who she sees mistreating others.]]
** Setsuna Meioh (aka Sailor Pluto) also counts, in contrast to the [[SmugSuper Outer]] [[IWorkAlone Senshi]], as she is the only Outer willing to cooperate with and help the Guardian Senshi, and is very caring and warm towards Chibiusa.
** Among the lesser characters, Naru Osaka and Hikaru Sorano (who only appears in ''Manga/CodenameSailorV'') are almost as nice as Usagi, with Hikaru being so nice that Artemis once wished ''she'' was Sailor V.
* The wolf-man from ''Anime/WolfChildrenAmeAndYuki'' is shown to be a kind and lighthearted guy despite being a loner.

* Takuto, the main character of ''Anime/StarDriver'', is probably one of the nicest protagonists of any mecha anime ever. Friendly, helpful, respects anyone, up and including his enemies (except his ArchnemesisDad), and always finds something nice to say about someone. It shortly becomes a problem for him in the beginning of the second half of the story, though, when the Kiraboshi members manage to directly enter their Cybodies and Takuto has to find a way of destroying these mechas without actually harming their drivers.
* In the same vein, Daichi, Hana, Teppei, and Akari from above's SpiritualSuccessor ''Anime/CaptainEarth'' are also some of the nicest protagonists in mecha anime history, especially Daichi and Hana. Must be the creators...
* [[IdolSinger Eriko Hara]] from ''[[TheAnimeOfTheGame Venus Project: Climax]]''. She gets along real well with pretty much everyone, she lives in an orphanage and befriends many of the kids living there, and in a flashback, she also shows remorse for [[TheRival Ruka Sovagasky]] when she loses in Eriko's debut match. She also has a sense of honor, when she shakes hands with her defeated opponent after the first round of the Formula Venus tournament in the second episode of the anime.
* Aoi of ''Manga/CastleTownDandelion'' is probably the nicest of the Sakurada siblings and the most considerate. This nature even has some more important implication, as [[spoiler:it averts the potentially harmful effects of her RoyaltySuperpower [[CompellingVoice Absolute Order]] on the society despite the fact that she has been unwittingly using it for several years.]]
* The title character of ''Manga/KomorisanCantDecline'', Shuri Komori, is this trope taken to an extreme level. Heck, she's so kind that she cannot say no to a favor no matter how ridiculous it is.
* Elaine from ''Manga/TheSevenDeadlySins'', in fact her kind-hearted personality is one of the reasons why [[AntiHero Ban]] [[BecauseYouWereNiceToMe softens up]].
* Itsuki Tachibana from ''Anime/PhantasyStarOnline2''.
* The first ending to ''Manga/NurseAngelRirikaSOS'' outright states that Ririka is sweet. She has her rough traits and [[GoodIsNotSoft her enemies]] but she's overall nice. She is the Nurse Angel after all, and is the only one who can save the planet. [[spoiler:She even undergoes a HeroicSacrifice, though she apparently somehow lives.]]

In fact, after he heard about the [[spoiler:Neo]] demon, which can [[VillainousGlutton eat all living things on a giant planet within a month]] and tends to torture his victims, because [[EmotionEater he likes the taste of fear and despair]], he immediately thought that he just hasn't eaten something that can satisfy him and found that something can fill his stomach and make him happy.

* Akira Takizawa, the GuileHero of ''Anime/EdenOfTheEast'', is such a friendly, compassionate and charming young man that even Selecao Number 11, an infamous serial killer who [[GroinAttack castrated]] [[DoesNotLikeMen all of her male victims]], eventually developed a fondness for him.

* Asahi Kuromine from ''Manga/MyMonsterSecret'' is the nicest, most accepting guy in the world; he'll treat you with the same kindness whether you're a former [[JapaneseDelinquents Delinquent]], a FriendlyNeighborhoodVampire, a [[{{Lilliputians}} Lilliputian]] alien in a MobileSuitHuman, whatever. And even though [[CannotTellALie he can't tell a lie to save his life]], if you [[SecretKeeper entrust him with a secret]] he ''will'' move Heaven and Earth to protect it. In a more serious story, he'd become a full-on MessianicArchetype; here he still gets close, [[spoiler:since he decides to become a teacher and look after non-human students in order to ensure that they and regular humans can peacefully co-exist.]] However, his niceness can actually be a problem since he has a tendency to put others' needs before his own and will run himself ragged trying to help them out, something that his LoveInterest Youko Shiragami has repeatedly asked him to stop doing.

* ''Manga/KaguyaSamaLoveIsWar'':
** While he does have a massive ego, Shirogane is fundamentally a very kind person, so much so that the very act of being cold to others causes him physical pain.
** Shirogane's unnamed predecessor as president is also shown to be a pretty amiable guy, as he was the first person in the school to reach out to Shirogane. He's also the one who established the practice of allowing normal students to come into the student council room to ask for help about their problems.
** This applies to the entire cheer team, given how quickly the accept Ishigami as one of their own despite the rumors surrounding him and [[TheEeyore how out of place he is]] among them.

* ''Anime/{{Free}}'': There is a lot of nice guys in this show, but Makoto is the most popular so far. He's gentle, kind, LovableCoward and TeamMom in one package. He's also universally friendly to anyone that doesn't provoke him and even if they do, he still tries to settle things as politely as he can.

* ''LightNovel/DateALive'' has two prominent examples: [[TheHero Shido]], who risks life and limb to protect the Spirits and give them the opportunity to have normal lives, and [[ShyBlueHairedGirl Yoshino]], who would rather run away from a fight instead of harming another living creature.
* ''LightNovel/TheAsteriskWar'':
** [[TheHero Ayato]] is a polite young man who believes there is goodness in everyone.
** Same with Kirin Toudou, who's sweet, kind, and polite despite her shyness.

* ''Manga/HunterXHunter'':
** The protagonist, Gon, is this, though with some BlueAndOrangeMorality mixed in due to his growing up largely outside of normal human society. He can't stand seeing innocent people get hurt, he believes every evil person is capable of being redeemed, and he will fight only when he has no other option. His kind, cheerful nature stands out in a world of BlackAndGrayMorality and, more than once, Gon has helped prevented someone he knows from JumpingOffTheSlipperySlope into evil just by being nearby.
** Goreinu is a player found in the lethal video game '"Greed Island''. Where other players are constantly trying to sabotage each other, steal from each other, or outright kill each other, Goreinu minds his own business while being savvy enough to avoid anything bad happening to him (though it helps that he has the power to [[TeleportSpam teleport himself or his enemies away]]). Unlike most of the characters outside of Gon, Goreinu has no ulterior motives, no DarkAndTroubledPast, no selfish desires, and no intent for any unnecessary harm to other people. The worst he's ever depicted is his reluctance to heal the injuries of a serial killer who almost killed him, and even then Goreinu ultimately heals him.

* In ''LightNovel/AscendanceOfABookworm'', Maine is generally very sweet and caring, though she does have a habit of not realizing when she's causing problems for other people. This actually bothers an attendant she gets later on because she interacts with him on a largely equal basis rather than behaving as his superior. To him, this reads as not fulfilling her role to behave with dignity, which reflects badly on him for ''serving'' an undignified master. Apart from that, her general good nature often leaves her unable to see when others might try to exploit her.

* Jean Roque Raltique, from ''Anime/NadiaTheSecretOfBlueWater'', aside from being [[{{Adorkable}} a nerd when it comes to technology and somewhat naive about social etiquette]], is arguably the nicest character in the show. He's sweet, loyal, devoted, and willing to forgive others instantly. (The Grandis gang when they help him save Nadia, and the latter for her often misdirected occasional outbursts of rage at him.) Even so, Jean does go through a brief period of grief [[spoiler:when he witnesses a friend of his die because of the technology he admires and later, learns about his dad's death]]. In one episode he also nearly strains his friendship with Hanson by trying to build a gyrocopter by himself (to impress Nadia), but soon acknowledges he can't do it alone. He also is quite brave; he puts his life in danger just to help the person he loves. And don't you dare try to hurt his friends in front of him.

* ''Anime/{{Free}}'': There is a lot of nice guys in this show, but Makoto is the most popular so far. He's gentle, kind, {{Adorkable}}, LovableCoward and TeamMom in one package.
