** At one point a female bodyguard of T'Challa threatens Black Widow to move out of the way and T'Challa remarks that a fight between them would be interesting to see. During ''ComicBook/CivilWar'' T'Challa had two female bodyguards of his fight Black Widow to get her off his tail.

** Despite the color difference, [[spoiler:the suit Tony offers to Peter near the end of the movie]] brings to mind [[spoiler:the Iron Spider armor introduced in the ''ComicBook/CivilWar'' storyline]]. The scene that follows, where [[spoiler:Tony is about to introduce Peter to journalists]], is also reminiscent to another scene from the same story (albeit with a significantly different outcome). It's also very reminiscent of ''ComicBook/NewAvengers'' #15, which had Iron Man and Captain America [[spoiler:unveil Spider-Man, ComicBook/LukeCage, ComicBook/SpiderWoman and ComicBook/TheSentry as the newest members of the team in front at a huge press conference]].

** "I'm here to talk to you about the Avengers Initiative". Nick Fury did not simply mention Comicbook/TheAvengers; "Comicbook/AvengersTheInitiative" was a comic book that began in 2007.

** Natasha's Tiffany & Co. necklace happens to be the [[Comicbook/{{Hawkeye}} arrow]] one.

** Natasha uses camotech to disguise herself. The technology is a favourite of Bobbi Morse/Comicbook/{{Mockingbird}}, a fellow spy in the comics, who at one point in ''Comicbook/SecretAvengers'' used it to pretend to be Natasha as a prank.

** The Baxter building, headquarters of the Comicbook/FantasticFour, is seen as [[spoiler:one of the targets of the Helicarriers]] in a blink-and-you'll miss it scene. ** [[spoiler:Baron von Strucker]] in TheStinger is [[spoiler:experimenting on [[Comicbook/{{Quicksilver}} twins]] with [[Comicbook/ScarletWitch superpowers]]]]. In the comics, [[spoiler:Strucker actually subjected his own twins to a treatment which gave them superpowers]].

** Cap's list of the things he missed includes the Moon Landing. Towards the beginning of the Winter Soldier comic arc, Cap regrets that he was not around in the 1960s to go into the space program because his body was made for those risks. In Comicbook/HouseOfM continuity, Cap was the first man on the moon.

** Hawkeye's new costume recalls his ''ComicBook/HouseOfM'' look, as well as his short-lived ''ComicBook/HeroicAge'' costume.

** Midtown High's mascot is a tiger, a nod to Comicbook/MaryJaneWatson's AffectionateNickname for Peter in the comics. In the background of the first decathlon scene, several posters are taped to the wall, one of which reads "[[Film/SpiderMan2 Go Get 'Em, Tigers!"]] Later, the student who wears the tiger mascot suit races by just before [[spoiler:Zendaya's character Michelle is nicknamed "MJ", establishing her as Mary Jane's MCU counterpart]].

** The Grandmaster's gladiatorial games are called the Comicbook/{{Contest of Champions|1982}}.

** Thor's largely unadorned armor is based on his design from Jason Aaron's modern ''Thor'' comics. Thor being [[Comicbook/{{Thor 2014}} stripped of his hammer and forced to rely on other weapons]] also comes from Aaron's run.
** When they first see each other in this movie, Thor refers to Hulk as a friend and is relieved to see him. In ''Comicbook/PlanetHulk'', when Hulk sees the ComicBook/SilverSurfer in the arena, Surfer also refers to Hulk as a friend (something Hulk himself was about to say).

** At one point, T'Challa tells [[spoiler:Klaue]] "Every breath you take is mercy from me," which is a line taken verbatim from his fight with [[Comicbook/SubMariner Namor]] during Creator/JonathanHickman's ''[[Comicbook/TheAvengersJonathanHickman New Avengers]]''.

** A S.H.I.E.L.D. agent calls Sif, Hogun and Fandral [[Series/XenaWarriorPrincess Xena]], Creator/JackieChan and RobinHood. While already a multiple ShoutOut, in the comics Fandral once claimed to have spent time on Earth during the MiddleAges and married to a woman named Marian - so he may ''be'' Robin Hood.

The "Arkon" ''Film/ConanTheBarbarian'' parody is a reference to a Marvel PlanetaryRomance character ... who comic book Williams did indeed play in a series of movies.
