Schandmaul (translates as "foulmouth") are a German band that helped to create and popularise the genre of Medieval Rock, and brought it to mainstream attention. They tend to play songs meant to evoke the style of a court jester's tunes, or popular medieval folk songs, using a combination of modern instruments along with older ones such as bagpipes, hurdy-gurdy, and so on. Their name refers the tendency to sing about things that some might consider to be offensive, and the frequent {{Take That}}s inherent within. They're made up of six people, each with their own specialty in instruments, but all of them will switch between different ones during concerts.

YMMV tropes moved.

* {{Crowning Moment of Funny}}: During one of their concerts, they paused between songs to tell the audience that they'd wanted to play in an old abbey in Bavaria, but were told by the monks that as their music is too "satanic" they weren't allowed. They then introduced the next song by saying "so we'll play one of our most satanic songs for you now." Their next song was Trinklied, itself stemming from the monks' beer-brewing ditties. Doubles as a {{Take That}}. Lots more in their lyrics as well.
* {{Crowning Music of Awesome}}: A lot, with one of their songs already mentioned on the trope page.
* {{Ear Worm}}: Again, the concept of their music causes a few songs to be this.

* {{SlidingScaleOfIdealismVersusCynicism}}: Way on the idealistic side. Most of the times. (See below)
* {{Tear Jerker}}: A song called "The Golden Necklace" is about a man bringing his daughter the titular necklace, which he took from a slain enemy... [[spoiler: turns out his daughter gave that man the necklace, as a sign of her love. ]]

In keeping with the "jester" background of their name and music, the lyrical content is usually funny, semi-political, and almost always tells a story of some kind.
