Move Mt G forlder to Magic The Gathering new page

* ''Memes/MagicTheGathering''

[[folder:Magic The Gathering]]
* Needs more Goyf. [[labelnote:Explanation]]A response to proposed decks; [[http://magiccards.info/fut/en/153.html Tarmogoyf]] is a cheap creature that can quickly become very large and is profitably playable in a huge variety of decks. Variations include -4 jank, + 4 Goyf.[[/labelnote]]
** Really, almost every Standard environment has a card like this. When Tarmogoyf rotated out, it became Needs more Blossom. [[labelnote:Explanation]][[http://magiccards.info/mt/en/58.html Bitterblossom]], heavily played when Morningtide was in Standard. In the past, it's been Clamp, Jitte, Manticore...[[/labelnote]]
** On a similar topic, "Tarmogoyf is the best Blue creature in the history of Magic." [[labelnote:Explanation]]While Tarmogoyf is a Green card, some of its most prominent early tournament usage was in primarily Blue decks that just splashed Green for Tarmogoyf. Because Green had a history of being terrible, while Blue is the most powerful color, the joke was that Tarmogoyf was a Blue card in disguise.[[/labelnote]]
* "Ach! Hans, run!" [[labelnote:Explanation]][[http://magiccards.info/8e/en/259.html Lhurgoyf's]] flavor text, one of the most famous in the game.[[/labelnote]]
* "Protection from [X]" and/or "Circle of Protection: [X]" (as in, "ProtectionFromEditors" or "Circle of Protection: Tropers"). [[labelnote:Explanation]]"Protection from X" is an ability that makes it very difficult to affect the object in question with anything that has quality X, while the [[http://magiccards.info/al/en/197.html Circles of Protection]] were enchantments that could prevent damage from cards with the relevant quality.[[/labelnote]]
* "Pithy fire related quotation!" -- [[DeadpanSnarker Jaya Ballard]], [[IncendiaryExponent Task Mage]] [[labelnote:Explanation]]The flavor text on [[http://magiccards.info/query?q=ft%3Aballard&s=cname&v=card&p=1 a number of cards]] is Jaya Ballard quipping memorably.[[/labelnote]]
* Uncle Istvan. [[labelnote:Explanation]]Uncle Istvan is an early card that has some amusing EarlyInstallmentWeirdness to him, including not being a unique Legend despite being named after a person, having a bizarre damage-immunity ability despite being a generic old man with an axe, and, most importantly, having the creature type of "Summon Uncle Istvan", which implies that 'Uncle Istvan' is a type of being akin to being an elf, goblin, warrior or human. The Grand Creature Type Update eventually fixed the last part, but people still occasionally reference it.[[/labelnote]]
** Brushwagg has achieved similar popularity, with the extra benefit of actually retaining its ridiculous creature type.
* ... But how's it play against ''faeries?'' [[labelnote:Explanation]]Faeries was a dominant deck during the Standard {{Metagame}}s which included the Lorwyn block. Often expanded to replace 'Faeries" with whatever the dominant deck of the time is.[[/labelnote]]
* It dies to removal! [[labelnote:Explanation]]Used sarcastically to downplay powerful creatures by pointing out that they die to creature-killing spells, even though a jank common creature would be killed just as dead as an expensive bomb and would have much less utility in the meantime. Originally applied to [[http://magiccards.info/m11/en/7.html Baneslayer Angel]] which spent some time costing upwards of fifty dollars and died to a ten-cent Doom Blade, but has since branched out to other expensive, game-winning creatures.[[/labelnote]]
** "Dies to Doom Blade" / "Dies to Murder" are more specific variants popular in the comments on Gatherer, the official [=WotC=] card listing site.
* "Harrow." "Harrow, to you to." [[labelnote:Explanation]][[http://magiccards.info/pvc/en/57.html Harrow]] meets {{Engrish}}.[[/labelnote]]
* "Why are you mana weaving?"
** "No, no, I'm randomizing my deck now, so it's perfectly legal..."
*** "SO WHY DID YOU MANA WEAVE?" [[labelnote:Explanation]]"Mana weaving" is distributing your lands evenly throughout your deck before playing, which negates the possibility of mana screw. Doing it is either uselessly time-consuming or an unfair advantage depending on the thoroughness of the ensuing shuffling (the "trick" being managing to ostensibly introduce just enough randomness to get the judges off your back, but not enough to completely negate the mana weaving). A comic was made to this effect.[[/labelnote]]
* [[http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Storm%20Crow Storm Crow]], a rather average card, and [[http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=45985 Chimney Imp]], a ridiculously underpowered one for its cost, are memetically popular on Gatherer as two of the [[SarcasmMode best cards ever.]]
** Relatedly: BAN HOVERMYR!
** Similarly, [[http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=scornful+egotist Scornful Egotist]], a card whose entire thing is being underpowered and useless but with a ridiculous cost, has spawned an InterruptingMeme wher- ALL HAIL THE GREAT LORD EGOTIST.
* After Nicol Bolas turned out to be the villain in two consecutive sets, there are a number of players who assume everything is his fault now. This has even been referenced on [[http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/stf/111 an official Wizards column]].
** In the third, it's a minor variation: The Phyrexians do control Mirrodin, but they don't have a planeswalker.
** Also stated as "BOLAS ALWAYS WINS!"
* Bolas did nothing wrong. [[labelnote:Explanation]]The (usually joking) insistence that Nicol Bolas is actually the hero of the story, and the actual protagonists are just messing things up his carefully-laid plans of bringing peace and unity to the multiverse.[[/labelnote]]
* I know a great combo: Humility and Opalescence. [[labelnote:Explanation]]Humility is an enchantment that turns all creatures into 1/1s and removes their game text. While merely a bystander in this case of fail, Opalescence is an enchantment that turns all other enchantments into creatures. Get them together, and you've got Humility removing its own ability, but then there's no need to, so it doesn't, but now it has to, but now there's no need to, but now it has to... This one combination of cards required one of the longest and most complicated rules explainations in the Oracle database, which invokes incredibly obscure and specific rules that were essentially invented just to resolve this one interaction; see [[http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=4881 here]].[[/labelnote]]
* [[Literature/NineteenEightyFour We've always been at war with]] ''TabletopGame/{{Pokemon}}'', I mean ''TabletopGame/YuGiOh''. [[labelnote:Explanation]]{{Fan Hater}}s, though it's been ''Magic'' versus all other [=CCGs=] since 1993.[[/labelnote]]
* "Rosewater confirms X!" [[labelnote:Explanation]]Mark Rosewater, the face of the game, often teases information about future sets. Some fans use this as a joke to say that everything he says is a spoiler.[[/labelnote]]
* Don't fuck with horseshoe crabs. [[labelnote:Explanation]]A joke on the 1/3 stats of a garden-variety [[http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=129596 horseshoe crab]], which, in comparison to other cards, would make it equal in battle to an [[http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=221892 elven warrior]] and able to shrug off the assault of a [[http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=114905 grizzly bear]]. Other cards get this, but the crab seems to be the favored son for how oddball it is.[[/labelnote]]
** In a similar vein, [[http://magiccards.info/ths/en/34.html Philosophers]] in Magic are hardened badasses who can go toe-to-toe with bears.
* Fblthp, as seen on the art for [[http://magiccards.info/query?q=totally+lost&v=card&s=cname Totally Lost]], gained massive popularity fast, was the feature of a story on the site, and Wizards sold Fblthp plushies for a brief while.
* [[http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=206329 Platinum Angel]]: You can't lose ''The Game''. [[labelnote:Explanation]]Often jokingly given as a a "counter" to losing "The Game". Sometimes also in other contexts. [[https://www.reddit.com/r/magicTCG/comments/24lrp1/standoff_in_honolulu/ Jokes are also sometimes made]] about [=MtG=] games themselves. (In reality, of course, a judge can disqualify you at any moment, Platinum Angel or not.)[[/labelnote]]
* Everything about [[http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=siege+rhino Siege Rhino]] has become MemeticMutation, mostly due to its place dominating the meta.
* "Hit 'em with your Crossbow, Steve!" [[labelnote:Explanation]]Reddit meme referencing an [[http://imgur.com/rkqFDBP image]] of a pair of soldiers aiming a crossbow at a creature that is waaaaaay too big to be more than temporarily annoyed (if that) by a crossbow bolt. The two soldiers get referenced [[http://www.magicspoiler.com/mtg-spoiler/skywhalers-shot/ again]] a few sets later.[[/labelnote]]
* The [[{{Pun}} Jacetice]] League [[labelnote:Explanation]] A derogatory fan name for the Gatewatch, spoofing both the superhero team inspiration behind them and Jace's inclusion as a founding member (as Jace has a significant {{Hatedom}}). [[/labelnote]]
* "Meanwhile on Innistrad, Sorin Markov is still stuck in a rock." [[labelnote:Explanation]]A joke about Planeswalker Sorin Markov that's regularly repeated with new stories, about how last he was seen he'd been trapped in a rock in such a way that makes it difficult for him to leave.[[/labelnote]]
* [[http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=413599 Jace The Mind Sculptor]], [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnYhG_ekoH8 Better Than All!]] [[labelnote:Explanation]]This version of Jace, one of the most powerful Planeswalker cards ever printed, inspired a rap song from some pro players thanks to his overpowering performance in Standard at the time. Jace was recently unbanned in the Modern format, reviving the meme.[[/labelnote]]
* [[http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=416835 Queen Marchesa (long may she reign)]] [[labelnote:Explanation]]This card depicts a popular villain from the plane of Fiora after a successful KlingonPromotion. The "long may she reign" subtitle was added as a joke in her Oracle rulings text, and has been picked up by the Commander community as her official name.[[/labelnote]]
* Belzenlok did that. [[labelnote:Explanation]]In the Return to Dominaria storyline, it is revealed that the Cabal has started engaging in [[OrwellianRetcon Orwellian Retcons]] inserting their leader, [[DemonLordsAndArchdevils Demonlord Belzenlok]] into moments from history that he couldn't possibly be a part of. Naturally, the fandom has embraced this and taken it UpToEleven, replacing every character they can get their hands on with Belzenlok.[[/labelnote]]

[[caption-width-right:180:You have angered the gazebo.]]

* ''Memes/DungeonsAndDragons''

[[folder:Dungeons And Dragons]]
* [[CriticalHit Rolling Twenties]] [[labelnote:Explanation]]Shorthand for performing an incredible feat, often against seemingly impossible odds, it has gone beyond ''Dungeons and Dragons'' and become part of purified gaming lore.[[/labelnote]]
* [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-leYc4oC83E I'm attacking the darkness!]] [[labelnote:Explanation]]A brilliant and absurdly popular parody, made by Deadale Wives, of all the YouCanPanicNow rhetoric directed towards ''D&D'' and roleplaying games in general, the ''entire video'' became a meme, with this line the most popular.[[/labelnote]]
** If there are any GIRLS there I wanna DO them!!!
** WHERE'RE THE CHEETOS?
* [[http://www.netfunny.com/rhf/jokes/98/Jul/gazebo.html IT'S A GAZEBO!]] [[labelnote:Explanation]]An unfortunate player is confronted by a gazebo, unaware of their nature. HilarityEnsues.[[/labelnote]]
--> Is it friendly?
--> It's not friendly, Eric. It's a GAZEBO!
--> I shoot it with my bow (roll to hit). What happened?
--> There is now a gazebo with an arrow sticking out of it.
--> I run away.
--> It's too late. You've awakened the gazebo. It catches you and eats you.
** This one gained enough notoriety that it's [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_and_the_Dread_Gazebo actually listed in]] Wiki/ThatOtherWiki.
** It's also in TabletopGame/{{Munchkin}} with the restriction "No one may help you. You must face the Gazebo alone," based on how only Eric attacked the gazebo because everyone else ''knew what a gazebo was''.
* Rogues [[BackStab do it from behind!]]
** And paladins do it on horseback!
** Samurai do it for their family's honor!
* [[YourMindMakesItReal I Roll to Disbelieve!]] [[labelnote:Explanation]]If the target of an illusion spell has a reason to think that the spell's effects are illusory and can pass a saving throw against the illusion the effect is negated, or at least weakened. In sufficiently dire straits many adventurers would try really, really hard not to believe in the dragon that was currently ripping him apart, just on the off chance that it wasn't real.[[/labelnote]]
* ''TabletopGame/{{Eberron}}'': Loli-pope! [[labelnote:Explanation]]The head of one major church (and, more or less ''de facto'', the theocratic nation in which it is based) in Eberron is a ten-year-old girl. Note this is not "''looks'' like a ten-year-old girl, but is really an immortal vampire" or something. The immortal vampire is the head of a ''different'' country.[[/labelnote]]
** Sailor Pope! [[labelnote:Explanation]]same as above, referencing ''Franchise/SailorMoon'' and the ridiculous level of power said ten year old girl wields because of her connection with said church's symbol of the Divine.[[/labelnote]]
* Bear Lore! Roll a Nature check:
** [=DC15=]: [[CaptainObvious Cave bears live in caves]]
** [=DC20=]: [[CaptainObvious Dire bears like to attack with their natural weapons]]
** [=DC25=]: Bears shit in the woods
** [=DC35=]: BearsAreBadNews [[labelnote:Explanation]]D&D 4e had tables which listed [[http://1d4chan.org/wiki/Bear_Lore stultifyingly obvious information]] for passing fairly difficult checks. Those first two lines are not even made up, they are condensations of the actual bear lore entries.[[/labelnote]]
* Alternatively, roll a Religion Lore:
** [=DC15=]: Bears do not attend any continuous services of worship. They are ready to kill at all hours of the week.
** [=DC20=]: They mysteriously vanish every winter, perhaps to give reverence to their perverse fertility goddess while gorging on the souls of men lost to famine.
** [=DC25=]: Bear society has no visibly ordained clerics.
** [=DC35=]: SHIT NEVERMIND THEY HAVE THEM RUN.
* Edit: Swordsaged [[labelnote:Explanation]]Used in D&D forums. For instance: At the Giant in the Playground message board, they say swordsaged instead of Ninja'd, because of how they seem to out-ninja ninjas in 3.5.[[/labelnote]]
** In game, Dex based swordsages, despite being considered the weakest of the 3 Tome of Battle classes, have a notorious reputation for ganking opponents not correctly defending themselves. [[labelnote:Explanation]]The reason for this is manyfold. Reason One is their initiative bonus. Heavy incentive for dex, the Quick to Act class feature, along with other potential but basic minmaxing such as gear, often means they're leaving NPC's in the dust, acting first. Reason Two is the combination of Shadow Blade, insightful strikes and Assassin's stance. Shadow Blade is a feat that allows them to add dex to damage when in a shadow hand stance and using shadow hand weapons. Said stance is often the assassin's stance, adding +2d6 sneak attack. Insightful strikes adds wisdom to damage when using maneuvers from a selected school. Thirdly is incidentally, the maneuvers. They let them do things like pop off 10d6 damage in a standard attack, do short ranged teleports as move actions, turn invisible for their turn as a swift action, or even move freely during a charge - giving them an array of heavy hitting options while avoid the riposte.[[/labelnote]] Long story short: Massive initiative checks, stealth, damage bonuses and class features make them crazy-quick at getting the drop on foes - Usually in the first or surprise rounds.
* [[http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=31914 MY HAT (sic) OF D02 KNOW NO LIMIT!]] [[labelnote:Explanation]]From the questionable grammatical ability of a disgruntled poster on the RPG.net forums. For those not in the know, a d02 would be a two-sided die, ergo something that could easily be replaced by a coin with no functional difference. (He meant to type "[=d20=]".)[[/labelnote]]
* [[ComicBook/ChickTracts Jack Chick was right!]] [[labelnote:Explanation]]The infamous "Dark Dungeons" Chick Tract is about as unrealistic a portrayal of D&D as will ever be conceived.[[/labelnote]]
** "Blackleaf! NO!!!" [[labelnote:Explanation]]In "Dark Dungeons", one player is expelled from the group after the death of her thief character, Blackleaf, and ultimately commits suicide over the character's death.[[/labelnote]]
** "I don't want to be Elfstar any more! I want to be Debbie!" [[labelnote:Explanation]]A line from "Dark Dungeons", when the heroine-- er, central character decides to break off ties with a witch's coven her DM runs.[[/labelnote]]
* From a famous ''TabletopGame/DungeonsAndDragons'' campaign, the [[http://www.blindpanic.com/humor/vecna.htm Head of Vecna]]. It's even referenced in ''VideoGame/PlanescapeTorment''.
* Tordek is in it for all the bitches. [[labelnote:Explanation]]A new D&D player's character was [[http://1d4chan.org/wiki/Tordek Tordek]]. His motivation for adventuring was attracting female companionship. This was pretty much his entire backstory.[[/labelnote]]
* [[http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/1709686/ Truly Immovable Rod]] [[labelnote:Explanation]]Also known as the Universal Stillpoint Rod. A player ended up killed by an Immovable Rod when he stood at the wrong side of it and the DM ruled that the rod remained fixed to one point in space, setting it off relative to the players at several thousand miles an hour. The party later used an Immovable Rod as a siege weapon.[[/labelnote]]
** *CLANG!* WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT? [[labelnote:Explanation]]People conjectured that, since the rod was now fixed to one point in space, no one would see it again until some unfortunate passed through the same region of space and got hit by the rod.[[/labelnote]]
* Lightning Warrior was a class someone created on the [=WotC=] forums as a joke. It has a wizard's spells and a warrior's fighting ability and asked if it was underpowered because it didn't have a familiar (an ability that is actually considered a disadvantage to use, since if the weak pathetic animal that grants you meaningless bonuses dies, you lose a giant chunk of XP) and is unable to specialize (a more legitimate weakness, but generalist Wizards are still GameBreaker class). The class is now a running gag when recommending a class, with notes that it "sacrifices power for flavor".
* "[[KatanasAreJustBetter Katanas]] [[http://1d4chan.org/wiki/Katanas_are_Underpowered_in_d20 are underpowered in D20]]" [[labelnote:Explanation]]A complaint about Katanas and d20, and the attempt to remedy this "problem", became infamous for its truly staggering amounts of bad research.[[/labelnote]]
-->[[AbsurdlySharpBlade Katanas are thrice as sharp as European swords and thrice as hard for that matter too. Anything a longsword can cut through, a katana can cut through better.]] [[DiagonalCut I'm pretty sure a katana could easily bisect a knight wearing full plate with a simple vertical slash.]] [[YouFailGeographyForever Ever wonder why medieval Europe never bothered conquering Japan?]] [[KatanasAreJustBetter That's right, they were too scared to fight the disciplined Samurai and their katanas of destruction.]] Even in World War II, American soldiers targeted the men with the katanas first [[ArtisticLicenseHistory because their killing power was feared and respected]].[[note]]This was, if true, probably more because the katanas were a symbol of their ''rank'' than their killing potential[[/note]]
* [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4UqFPujRZWo I'm a monster! RAWR!]] [[labelnote:Explanation]]The gnome was taken out of the 4E Player's Handbook and placed in the Monster Manual, and in the [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_q3s4_Ku5rw animated videos]] by [[WebAnimation/{{Brackenwood}} Adam Phillips]], commissioned by Wizards Of The Coast, the gnome pointed this out.[[/labelnote]]
* [[http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb17/antar000/ACTIONPOINTS.jpg?t=1299110940 ACTION POINTS!]] [[labelnote:Explanation]]Action points allowed characters in TabletopGame/D20Modern or TabletopGame/{{Eberron}} to add to a roll, allowing characters to go "above and beyond" their normal abilities. The [[TabletopGame/{{Warhammer 40000}} Eversor Assassin]] is obviously using his.[[/labelnote]]
* WEEABOO [[SupernaturalMartialArts FIGHTAN MAGIC]]![[labelnote:Explanation]]The Tome of Battle: Book of Nine Swords was an Animesque supplement designed to mitigate LinearWarriorsQuadraticWizards by giving melee characters KiAttacks and similar powers. Used both as an insult and an [[InsultBackfire affectionate nickname]].[[/labelnote]]
** [[http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/1027569/ IRON HEART SUUUURGE!]] [[labelnote:Explanation]]This power, from the Tome of Battle, allowed the user to remove any negative effect. Since the term "negative effect" wasn't well defined, it was reasoned that one could Iron Heart Surge out of pregnancy, or wounds, or death. Additionally, instead of becoming immune to the effect itself, the ''cause'' of the effect is ended, so if you are in a desert or are a race somehow impaired by the sun, you can end its heat/light. Ironically, the ability can't be used as HeroicWillpower as intended, as any these situations, such as Charm or Hold Person, prevent you from moving freely.[[/labelnote]]
* Durr *CLANG* [[labelnote:Explanation]]In 4th edition, Rogues can get a power called Bloody Path during which they run past enemies, and if those enemies would make opportunity attacks, they instead target themselves. It's ''supposed'' to represent DeadlyDodging, but this makes little sense because, due to the nuances, a more skilled warrior is more likely to hit themselves. The only explanation some people could come up with was that they spontaneously developed insanity. Thus, "Durr... *CLANK*"[[/labelnote]]
* [[BlatantLies I AM THE MOON]]. (He is the moon...) [[labelnote:Explanation]]When telling lies in D&D, subjects receive an increasing bonus to their attempt to see through the lie based on how utterly nonsensical the lie is. D&D 3e has a spell called Glibness which gives huge bonuses to Bluff checks that outstrip the bonus the target gets for disbelieving even the most ridiculous lies, to the point where you can say something like "The sky is green" or, yes, "I am the Moon come down to check on the tides" and be believed. You can also have your friends come along and back you up to get a further bonus on your roll. ("He is the Moon.")[[/labelnote]]
* Cats vs. Commoners. [[labelnote:Explanation]]Both are almost {{One Hit Point Wonder}}s, so it's "who scores a few hits first". Thus, even in D&D1/AD&D a commoner beats a cat only if allowed some good use of size advantage, like overrun attack not requiring charge (PO:C&T). In D&D3, a small dextrous cat is better both at hitting and dodging and has 3-attack claw/claw/bite routine, so cats win.[[/labelnote]]
* Oh no! It's [=CoDZilla=]. [[labelnote:Explanation]]In response to the accusation that 3.5 psionics was broken and that core was balanced, one person made a rather sarcastic response pointing out just how broken the core classes of Cleric and Druid are. [=CoD=] refers to '''C'''leric '''o'''r '''D'''ruid[[/labelnote]]
* Leering Green Devil Face. [[labelnote:Explanation]]In the ''TabletopGame/TombOfHorrors'', this is a mural in the front hall [[spoiler:containing a Sphere of Annihilation in its mouth]]. It's easily the best-known trap of the entire trap-filled dungeon and gets referenced to this day, even in official materials.[[/labelnote]]

[[folder:Warhammer 40000]]
* In the [[DarkerAndEdgier grimdark]] future of the grimdark grimdark, there is only grimdark. [[labelnote:Explanation]]A parody of the [[UpToEleven overly dark and over the top nature]] of the ''Warhammer 40000'' setting, a variation on the most common TagLine of "In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war."[[/labelnote]]
** In the Space Marine future of the Space marine, there is only Space Marine. [[labelnote:Explanation]]A variation of the above after considering the fact that, in the 5th edition, almost half of the playable "factions" are Space Marines.[[/labelnote]]
* '''''" {{HERESY}}!"''''' ''[[BurnTheWitch *BLAM*]]'' [[labelnote:Explanation]]A response used to note either: extreme dislike or possible CanonDefilement; extreme disagreement with somebody; anything extremely disgusting, inappropriate or taboo (most infamously in 4chan, Memes/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic); or simply as a hammier version of the word "bullshit". It is best used with a picture of a [[ThePoliticalOfficer Commissar]] for full effect. Remember, posting ponies in /tg/ is HERESY![[/labelnote]]

They may either ascend as a Daemon Prince, to rule unholy armies and worlds for eternity, or to become a Chaos Spawn, a mutated beast that...no, wait, I GHRHADIOSJNSLKDMAPKF! [[labelnote:Explanation]]Used whenever someone mentions a Chaos Spawn, one of the most useless units among Chaos Space Marine armies, causes a person to devolve into a Chaos Spawn.[[/labelnote]]
* The PDF tried to respond but were killed to a man. [[labelnote:Explanation]]A meme lampooning the general incompetence of the Planetary Defence Force in most of 40k fiction. A PDF is supposed to be an Imperial army stationed on a planet, capable of defending their world until they get reinforcements that can actually drive off an invader. 9 times out of ten, the PDF for a planet being invaded/corrupted/in a rebellion/etc. will be either completely destroyed or become heretics. These armies are usually mocked by Imperial Guard or Space Marines for their constant ineptitude.[[/labelnote]]
* Tomb Kings [[InSpace IN SPESS!]] [[labelnote:Explanation]]Highlights some similarities between the Necrons and [[TabletopGame/WarhammerFantasy Tomb Kings]] factions (both are Egypt-inspired skeletons that can go back up when killed). This meme predates the 5th Edition Necron codex, but got a new youth from it as more similarities were added. For the spelling, see SPESS MEHREENS above.[[/labelnote]]
* You scored all the points but the Galactic Partidges won the battle. [[labelnote: Explanation]]A fan-made chapter of Space Marines found on /tg/ who steal victories out from under other armies. Meant to parody both the Blood Ravens (known in memes as chronic thieves of relics rather than victories, bird-based name) and the penchant for Games Workshop to have Space Marines show up and be credited with saving the day in canon, regardless of how well other Imperial forces are fighting at the time.[[/labelnote]]
* The [[FanFic/FirstMembranes 1st Membranes]] will kill you with mindbullets. [[labelnote:Explanation]]An army of Imperial Guardsmen generated using the tables in the still-in-beta 40k RPG ''Only War'' used to represent /tg/ in the setting when the Angry Marines aren't around. Known for the hilariously canon defiling concept (generated by the dice completely fairly, but still absurd) of an entire guard regiment made up of unstable, weak-willed psykers.[[/labelnote]]
* Doombreed is GENGHIS MOTHERFUCKING KHAN and is on fire! [[labelnote:Explanation]]Largely attributed to a particularly amusing 1d4chan article, the article repeatedly posits that Doombreed is Genghis ''Motherfucking'' Khan and has a fact list that rapidly devolves into everything about him and everything he owns being on fire. The meme portrays Doombreed as a (literally) flaming badass and destroyer of all who oppose him along with much identifying the Mongols with Khorne.[[/labelnote]]
* You must forge a narrative! [[labelnote:Explanation]]A parody slogan on the insistence of Games Workshop that you are not actually playing a game, but creating a narrative story.[[/labelnote]]
* ''Yo dawg, I heard you like armor so I put armor in your armor so you can wear armor while you wear armor.'' [[labelnote:Explanation]]The latest SpaceMarine codex features the Centurion, a SpaceMarine in full armor wearing a suit of mechanised armor. Fans immediately adapted the yo dawg meme to lampoon how silly the concept was.[[/labelnote]]

* [[CrossesTheLineTwice I roll to Deny the Holocaust.]] [[labelnote:Explanation]]The introduction of the 6th edition of the game saw the introduction of a new rule: Deny the Witch. This allows a unit a roll to defend against enemy psychic powers, if a slim one. Such a roll is sometimes abbreviated as "Deny" or "DTW". The 5th edition rulebook for the Grey Knights included a power called "Holocaust", which targets an area around the model using it. The defending player can roll to defend against this attack, but because of the poor wording a player can, before they realize what they are saying, announce that they roll to Deny the Holocaust.[[/labelnote]]

[[labelnote:Explanation]]Uncle Istvan is an early card that has some amusing EarlyInstallmentWeirdness to him, including not being a unique Legend despite being named after a person, having a bizarre damage-immunity ability despite being a generic old man with an axe, and, most importantly, having the creature types, type of "Summon Uncle Istvans will inevitably come up. * [[CrossesTheLineTwice I roll to Deny the Holocaust.]] [[labelnote:Explaination]]The introduction of the 6th edition of the game saw the introduction of a new rule: Deny the Witch. This allows a unit a roll to defend against enemy psychic powers, if a slim one. Such a roll is sometimes abbreviated as "Deny" or "DTW". The 5th edition rulebook for the Grey Knights included a power called "Holocaust", which targets an area around the model using it. The defending player can roll to defend against this attack, but because of the poor wording a player can, before they realize what they are saying, announce that they roll to Deny the Holocaust.[[/labelnote]]

to:

* ''TabletopGame/{{Traveller}}'': Dying during character creation (which was indeed possible creation.[[labelnote:Explanation]]Most Traveller characters are veterans of some sort of armed force or other organization in which they learned/were trained in the skills that will serve them as adventurers. As a nod to the hazards of such careers (and a hedge, along with the aging rules, against players creating characters with long service histories and very high skill levels, ranks, etc), every four-year term required a "survival roll" at the end. In early editions, failing this roll meant the character was dead; on a meta level, the player had pushed their luck too far and "crapped out", and would have to start over. Later editions of modified this rule to say that the game).character had instead suffered some career-ending mishap and left the service at the end of that term.[[/labelnote]]

* Edit: Swordsaged [[labelnote:Explanation]]Used in D&D forums. For instance: At the Giant in the Park message board, they say swordsaged instead of Ninja'd, because of how they seem to out-ninja ninjas in 3.5.[[/labelnote]]
** In game, Dex based swordsages in spite of being considered the weakest of the 3 Tome of Battle classes, have a notorious reputation for ganking opponents not correctly defending themselves.

This is one combination of cards required one of the longest and most complicated rules explainations in the Oracle database, which invokes incredibly obscure and specific rules that were essentially invented just to resolve this one interaction; see [[http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=4881 here]].[[/labelnote]]
