*** Athrun is Arabic, derived from the Greek erythron, which means red. [[CharClone He is a CHAR]] after all.

** Almost all the major characters have ThemeNaming relating to ''The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter'', and their personalities are based off of the author's interpretation of the story. For example, Fujiwara (who always gets caught cheating whenever the Student Council has a competition) was named after the suitor who attempted to cheat Princess Kaguya by presenting a fake copy of what they had been tasked to find.

** 'Madoka' can mean 'wish' or 'circle'. As in the cyclical nature of the time loops around her and the witch-incubator relationship.
** 'Homura', on the other hand, means 'flame'. As in 'flame of desire' but also as in 'Lucifer' (light-bringer).

* It's a minor example, but in Chapter 94 of """Manga/SpyXFamily""", all of the throwaway characters have names that fit this trope. Guess the defining features of Ahdrahma Queen, Shorton Kreditz, and the Hostman couple.

* "Akai" from ''Anime/{{Kite}}'' means "red" in Japanese, and Sawa's flashback sequences of him often involve red (and sometimes blood-related) imagery.

** The protagonist Yugi's name means game, and "Yu-Gi-Oh" means King of Games. Appropriate thing to shout (and to name the series with) when summoning the spirit of the greatest Card Gamer in history.

** Seto Kaiba's name is full of them. The characters of his last name translate to 'Sea Horse', and then take into account an old Myth/{{Japanese Myth|ology}} that says [[SeahorsesAreDragons a sea horse will turn into a dragon if it lives for 100 years]]. His first name is the name of the Egyptian God 'Set' said in Japanese phonetics (i.e. with a vowel at the end, usually 'o'). (One monster he has been known to use is [[http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Kaiser_Sea_Horse Kaiser Seahorse]], which reflects this. It makes summoning his [[http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Blue-Eyes_White_Dragon Blue-Eyes White Dragon]] easier; to emphasize this, "Kaiser" means "emperor', symbolizing majesty.)

** And Lelouch Lamperouge, who's first name roughly translates to "The Suspicious" in French, which is fairly on the mark (though somewhat mangled). Lamperouge translates into "red lamp" or "red light"... since his eye(s) glow red when he uses his Geass, this one should be pretty obvious.
** And the Kururugi clan, Suzaku and his father Genbu, two of a group of [[TheFourGods four popular zoomorphised constellations]], specifically the firebird and tortoise-snake. Suzaku's name also ends up also being a PropheticName.

** The VillainProtagonist of the series has the properly ironic name of "[[LightIsNotGood Light]]" (this refers to [[Literature/TheDivineComedy Dante's]] allegory with likening God to the Sun and sunlight, which is used often in the [[AllThereInTheManual Bible]], a name that is written as 'Moon' but read as 'Light', as in 'moonlight'). It's spelled with the character for "moon" and his last name "Yagami" also means "night god." His pseudonym, "Kira," is "killer" in GratuitousEnglish. Light is not only borrowing a Shinigami's power as the moon will 'borrow' sunlight to make himself a [[AGodAmI god]] (shinigami being the closest thing to gods in the series), but that he is also, in reality, an imitation, a false god after all (making his accusing Near of being an imitation of L hypocritical).

* ''Manga/MyHeroAcademia'' has this in spades, in general, every character has a name that in some way relates to their power, personality or role in the story. (Many of these can be {{Justified}} since [[DifferentlyPoweredIndividuals Quirks]] run in families -- [[FridgeBrilliance parents likely know what their kids' powers will be when they name them]].)

** Played with in the case of Donquixote Doflamingo, named after(duh) Don Quixote who is famous for being a dreamer, oblivious to the fact that his dreams are nothing but his own madness while Doflamingo believes in a world with no dreams, [[WrongGenreSavvy oblivious to the fact that the One Piece world doesn't work like that]].

*** Hinata Hyuuga: Her name forming a pun around the sun, linked to the Hyuuga clan symbol. The pun being that her first and last name can both be read as the same thing, "into the sun", or "facing the sun". The Hyuuga as a whole have names [[FamilyThemeNaming themed around the sun]] (except for Neji, see below). She also happens to have a [[FanOfUnderdog massive crush]] on the sunny personality and blond hair that is Naruto,who eventually gets lit up like the sun when he uses his controlled [[GoldenSuperMode Nine Tails Mode]]. Her name suits her well, because [[LivingEmotionalCrutch she managed to help out Naruto]] during some of [[DespairEventHorizon the darkest moments of his life]] in the series.
