** Considering that he cut through the carbon fiber armor of Fang's "Beast," slicing through an outdated tank is nothing. However, the fluid which allows his blade to do that does ware off over time and use along with the blade, so the longer he fights the duller his blade becomes. So there are times when armor ''is'' useful.

* NiceHat: Pyro is almost always wearing his FedoraOfAsskicking, except for the time when his ass gets kicked and he's forced to leave it behind to save a comrade (he gets it back a few chapters later). Zelm, on the other hand, is ''never'' without his.

* PayEvilUntoEvil: Mamoru and Jesus both have this attitude, as part of their GoodIsNotNice mentality.

* BlackAndGreyMorality/ WhiteAndGreyMorality: This series has the full range thanks to a cast full of [[AntiHero anti-heroes]], [[AntiVillain anti-villains]], and morally ambiguous figures, along side an example of "White" (Haruka) and at least one example of "Black" (Edge Turus, [[spoiler:who is possibly more evil than the BigBad, just a lot less capable]]).

* BadassInDistress: This happens to Mamoru thrice in the series, but all are ultimately either subversions or double subversions. The first time, in the WholeEpisodeFlashback, immediately after [[spoiler:he loses his sight due to ChildSoldier (whom he had just agreed to MercyKill to free her from a FateWorseThanDeath) getting blown up, when they are alone in enemy territory]]. The subversion comes in his RoaringRampageOfRevenge against the arc's BigBad, whom he [[spoiler:defeats, newly blind]]. The second time, he ''intentionally'' gets captured (with certain goals in mind), not that it goes entirely as planned. The last instance, during a duel to the death with the BigBad, [[spoiler:Haruka distracts him]], intentionally interrupting the fight, so that he be hurt but survive, thereby averting a [[TakingYouWithMe suicidal mutual strike]] which [[HeroicSuicide had been Mamoru's plan]] at that point.

* MagneticHero: Haruka is charismatic enough to [[UpToEleven have whole ''battalions'' ]]willing to assist her. Mamoru has this quality to a lesser degree, especially in the beginning of the story, but he is charismatic enough to have a whole following, not to mention what those who have been taught by him feel (with one exception).
