* GenderBenderFriendship: Inverted and downplayed. The girls give Tomo such an out-of-character makeover that Jun doesn't recognize her! As an anonymous cute girl, she asks him about his feelings for her.

** When they finally admit their feelings for each other, Jun throws in that [[spoiler:while he's known for months that Tomo was in love with him, he ''completely'' missed that her more girly behavior was a deliberate tactic to entice him]]. That being said, Jun still finds it easier to treat Tomo as a girl when she's wearing more stereotypically feminine clothing, being more willing to jump into situations and try to protect her (such as in the Festival arc). Granted, he feels awkward about doing so because he knows she's more than capable of fending for herself.

* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome: During the sports festival, Tomo and Jun treat the marathon portion as a race between the two. At one point, Tomo faints due to intense overexertion (she'd been running all the previous night as well). One might expect a romantic BridalCarry moment as Jun takes her to the nurse. Instead, however, Jun panics, since someone collapsing suddenly is a terrifying and potentially dangerous situation. He ''does'' carry her to the nurse's office, but on piggyback rather than BridalCarry, since it's far more practical at the moment. Neither party is in any position to notice any potential intimacy from such an act either. Tomo is unconscious and Jun is too concerned for her wellbeing to pay any mind to that sort of thing.

I feel like this is really stretching the definition of the trope.

* DoubleStandardRapeFemaleOnMale:
** After Jun lets Carol into his room, she pins him to his bed in an attempt to get him to realize how much of a problem his fear of closeness is in relation to Tomo (complete with a kiss on the cheek). He's terrified the whole time, doesn't fight back, and even runs over to Tomo and flinches when Carol comes over to apologize because he's so scared. This is all played for comedy, by the way.
** Later on, after Tomo learns about what Carol did, she doesn't put much blame on her; rather, she finds fault with ''Jun'', because he left himself open to Carol. This reaction is somewhat justified due to Tomo's martial arts upbringing and because she knows Jun is strong, but it still sounds pretty strange. That said, this is probably because it was only a kiss, rather than anything further.

''Tomo-chan Is a Girl!'' (''Tomo-chan wa Onnanoko!'' in Japanese) is a 4-koma manga about a tomboy trying to get her crush to see her as a girl. Though drawn by [[BleachedUnderpants former hentai author]] Fumita Yanagida, the {{Fanservice}} is very toned down, and for the most part is an easy-going SliceOfLife gag comic about Tomo, Jun, and their wacky friends.

* BleachedUnderpants: As mentioned above, the series' artist was known for doing hentai before, but while ''Tomo-chan'' has some {{Fanservice}} it's generally few and far between. However, Yanagida occasionally uploads raunchier non-canon BonusMaterial to his Pixiv account, usually alternate takes on strips or storylines that feature actual nudity and sex.
