* ActorAllusion: Episode 3 ends with a parody of ''LightNovel/BodaciousSpacePirates'', which starred three of ''Great Jahy'''s four actresses (Creator/KanaHanazawa, Creator/YokoHikasa, and Creator/AiKayano) introduced so far. Oddly, while Hanazawa has a similar position as the main character's underling, Creator/MikakoKomatsu--who voiced the lead in ''Bodacious Space Pirates''--doesn't debut until the next episode.

Meet Jahy now. Living in an old apartment complex in modern-day Japan in squalor, and with no magic to sustain her, she's more or less stuck in a childlike form, able only to revert to her true form for a limited time for such important duties as... part-time work at the ''Izakaya Maou'' restaurant owned by her landlady's older sister.

But she won't be discouraged! She will search for magical gems to eventually restore the Demon Realm... no matter how many times she ([[ButtMonkey comically]]) stumbles, gets hounded by her old rival Saurva, or is reminded of the relative success of her former underling, Druj, in comparison. And that's not to mention the occasional run-in with the same magical girl that ruined her life.

* NotSoStoic: ImpliedTrope. Albeit Druj is sycophantic towards Jahy, it's shown that she acts as a SpannerInTheWorks when it comes to Jahy's success in collecting gems, enough to wonder whether Druj's unconsciously resentful of her former boss.
Is there an issue? Send a MessageReason:
This has made me realize how so much of this trope page was filled with single-character tropes, especially for Jahy herself, with very littlre story or multi-character tropes.

* CatGirl: While Jahy isn't actually a cat girl, her appearance and behavior strongly evoke one, to the point she's taking a side-job at a cat cafe to act like a cat.

* EveryoneHasStandards: Jahy becomes increasingly disturbed by Druj's love of being treated like filth after [[HumanityIsInfectious living in the human world for a good while]].
* HowTheMightyHaveFallen: The core of the series. From DragonInChief to a part-timer in PerpetualPoverty.
* HumanityIsInfectious: After spending most of her life acting as an utter tyrant, being forced to depend on humans for her survival and demon-gem-finding efforts is causing Jahy to gradually become more humanlike in personality, developing empathy and a conscience about how bad she used to be. It's a gradual process and she's trying her best to fight against it due to her pride, but even her attitudes about the Demon King and her servant Druj have been changing.

* SleepModeSize:
** Due to being cut off from the Demon Realm's magic, Jahy is forced into a kid's body most of the time. She can assume her original form back, but can't hold it for too long, so she reserves it for important matters. Like doing part-time work.
** She also uses her depowered mode to basically rest, and in strenuous circumstances, to go by unnoticed without revealing that she's a demonness.

* TranquilFury: Jahy's boss is calm, but as she comes to learn, it's not wise to make her mad.

* VaporWear: Jahy in her SleepModeSize usually goes around wearing literally ''only'' a T-shirt, not only [[DoesNotLikeShoes refusing to wear shoes]] but also quite clearly not wearing any underwear based on some shots.
Is there an issue? Send a MessageReason:
None

* AmbiguousDisorder: Maou-sama; she is nonverbal (except for saying Jahy's name once) thus making it hard to decipher what she wants; she does not emote; and her mannerisms are odd, as seen when Jahy followed her throughout town: she eats a dog's food before taking a nap on the road and comes dangerously close to getting hit.
* AmbiguouslyGay: After a run in with Jahy's boss at the bathhouse, Salwa was too preoccupied thinking about the softness of the boss's bust, and completely forgot about Jahy.

* BadBoss: Jahy horrifically abused her minions to the point of executing them for failure and the most inconvenient of reasons. This only becomes more ironic once the tables are turned on her.
* BigEater: Maou-sama/The Demon Lord devours a large portion of food that the Magical Girl had bought to commemorate the Demon Lord's revival. So much so, she develops a small BalloonBelly.
* ButtMonkey: Jahy is constantly humiliated, demeaned, and robbed of her dignity during her quest of restoring her realm.

* CatsAreMean: Jahy, given how she has the appearance of a cat. And she is especially mean, or at the least, when she was in the Demon Realm that is.
* CharacterDevelopment: Jahy starts off as being a haughty, selfish brat, but the more that she resides in the human realm, Jahy gradually becomes more appreciative of what she has.
* ClingyJealousGirl: Druj so strongly worships and adores Jahy that she views herself as the only person worthy of Jahy's attention. The sight of anybody else getting close enough that it looks like they might steal her "#1 follower" spot makes her go slightly {{Yandere}} and try to MurderTheHypotenuse, such as the case of Kyouko stating how she is Jahy's "BestFriend", to which both of them get into a verbal fight over who is closer to Jahy before deciding to take their fight somewhere more secluded to properly duke it out. The results were inconclusive and every following meeting they aggressively compete for Jahy's attention.
* CryCute: A common result of Jahy's efforts backfiring on her or circumstances humiliating her is Jahy crying miserably while vowing that she won't be discouraged. [[spoiler:Takes on a more heartbreaking and terrifying tone when she genuinely came close to being killed by the Magical Girl while being utterly unable to fight back in any way, with the only reason she survived being the timely interruption by Ryou and her calling of the police, and the aftermath having her become a sobbing and trembling mess who needed to be comforted by Ryou.]]

* DefrostingIceQueen: Jahy utterly refuses to admit it's happening to her, but spending long enough on Earth interacting with humans, especially humans like Kokoro that genuinely like and respect her, is causing her to lose most of her villainous attitude and become increasingly approachable.
* DesperatelyLookingForAPurposeInLife: The entire reason Kyouko continues to antagonize the demon race even after she crushed their kingdom and forced Jahy into PerpetualPoverty is because she literally had no other meaning to her life before being chosen to become a magical girl, and collecting magical gems despite the misfortune they bring her so that nobody else has to suffer was the only purpose she still had, mainly to distract herself from [[IJustWantToHaveFriends her immense loneliness at nobody wanting to be around her]]. She only stops her aggression towards Jahy when the girl offers to be her friend and provide the companionship she always desired, after which she dedicates her life instead to being the greatest friend Jahy could ever hope for, something that horrifies Jahy due to Kyouko's possessiveness but is something she can't end without risking her returning to being an enemy.
* DoesNotLikeShoes:
** While Jahy does wear proper shoes in her adult form, mainly when working at her job, when in SleepModeSize she prefers hanging around completely barefoot, at most wearing a pair of crocs she can quickly slip off when at home.
** The Demon Lord Maou-sama appears as a young girl who doesn't wear socks or any other footwear.
* DontYouDarePityMe: As a result of her pride, Jahy is incapable of asking for help, especially from her former servant Druj, not only to help her retrieve the mystic gems, but also for her daily life. As such, she'd rather put on a cool face and pretend that she has everything in control.

* FatalFlaw: Jahy's is {{Pride}}. Even at her current status, she still tries to act haughty and powerful just to save face, especially to her previous aide, Druj. Half of her problems stem from her unwillingness to tell others that she's living a meager life, [[DontYouDarePityMe because that means accepting their pity and possible help.]]
* HeroAntagonist: The Magical Girl wholeheartedly views her destruction of the demon world and depriving the demons of their livelihood as a good thing, as she was brought to believe that the suffering of the world was caused by the demons and their magical gems, which results in her acting as a direct opponent of Jahy and her quest to regain her power.

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold:
** Jahy already had ''some'' hints of hidden niceness even in the past, but coming to Earth and losing her power have caused her to start developing a genuine sense of budding kindness underneath her smug and condescending attitude. She strongly dislikes showing this newfound side since it risks destroying her fearsome reputation, but people like Kokoro are capable of coercing her into showing a good and lovable side simply by being nice and respectful to her.
** Landlady Ryou refuses to take any crap from Jahy, not only aggressively trying to get her to pay the rent but also strongarming her into doing things she hates because they're necessary, but a good part of why she does so, besides wanting to be repayed for sheltering a [[PerpetualPoverty constantly broke]] demon, is because she's concerned about Jahy's wellbeing, and when situations get serious enough that even Jahy breaks down, Ryou drops the attitude and comforts her.

* LaserGuidedKarma:
** By HumiliationConga. All of Jahy's haughtiness in her previous status comes back to bite her ''hard''. For taking her luxuries for granted, she's now stuck in PerpetualPoverty. For working her minions like a slave, she now has to work like a slave herself. Also, for mistreating her aide, Druj, Druj is now rich and powerful compared to Jahy's miserable life.
** [[spoiler:In addition, the first time she performs a selfless deed, after ending up in a seemingly hopeless situation herself, she's immediately rewarded by finding a large mystic gem.]]
** [[spoiler:A few chapters later she attempts to steal a mystic gem from an apparently helpless schoolgirl and is immediately punished with the loss of her large mystic gem.]]
* NiceGirl:
** Jahy's boss is unfailingly approachable if a little air-headed. She does have her moments of manipulating Jahy, but she never does anything harmful or cruel, only tricking Jahy either for some minor benefits or to help ease Jahy into the nice feelings that come from doing good.
** Fittingly enough [[MeaningfulName for a girl named "heart"]], Kokoro doesn't have a single mean or manipulative bone in her body, forming a strong and close friendship with Jahy from the moment they first met. Her niceness and reverence of Jahy's better qualities has resulted in her being close to the only human Jahy consistently shows her good side to.
* NoNameGiven: The Owner's name has never been revealed.

* OnlySaneWoman: The landlady, Ryou. Unlike with her kind-hearted sister, Ryou cuts Jahy no slack and treats her refusal of paying the rent as serious business.
* PerpetualPoverty: Jahy lives in an old, rickety apartment complex, eats beansprouts for dinner, and struggles to make ends meet.
* SheIsTheKing: The Demon Lord turns out to be a small, horned girl.

* {{Stripperific}}: Jahy's original outfit that she uses when trying to act out her role as demonic NumberTwo is basically a skimpy two-piece bikini and boots, with the top basically designed to expose everything but her nipples. In her SleepModeSize, she wears a baggy, ill-fitting shirt and [[VaporWear nothing else]].

* TooKinkyToTorture: Druj genuinely ''liked it'' when Jahy acted as an abusively controlling master, both because it showed who was boss between them and because she's a major masochist. Jahy becomes a bit uncomfortable about this part of Druj's personality whenever they have some alone-time following Jahy [[HumanityIsInfectious gaining a sense of morality]].

* UndyingLoyalty:
** Druj wholeheartedly worships Jahy, seeing her not only as the pinnacle of a true demon, but as the woman who rescued her from a life of depression and gave meaning to her existence. Jahy has come to feel terrified at disappointing her servant's loyalty by revealing how she's not strong anymore and has lost her edge. Druj, however, may not be as egalitarian towards Jahy as she may appear (see NotSoStoic).
** After their final encounter, Kyoko the Magical Girl decides to become Jahy's friend and becomes psychotically devoted to her much to the number 2 of the Demon Realm's chagrin.
* UnknownRival: Salwa had dedicated all her time and effort to becoming powerful as a means of usurping Jahy and taking her status as no. 2 of the Demon Realm. However, when she ''finally'' meets with Jahy, the ex-NumberTwo has no idea who she was.

* VillainProtagonist: The series follows the misadventures of the forever suffering ex-DragonInChief who tries to gather the mystic gems to resurrect the Demon Lord and the Demon Realm but fails at it extraordinarily.
* {{Womanchild}}: Could also lean slightly towards "psychopathic," but Jahy fits this. Despite being implied to be massively older than her boss and the landlady, Jahy acted like a child even before she had her run in with the Magical Girl. On Earth, she acts like a bratty, petulant child who throws temper tantrums when things don't go her way. When she is invited to a bathhouse by the two women, Jahy is easily mesmerized by the shampoo sudding her hair.

* SleepModeSize: Due to being cut off from the Demon Realm's magic, Jahy is forced into a kid's body most of the time. She can assume her original form back, but can't hold it for too long, so she reserves it for important matters. Like doing part-time work.

** The main ethos of the series, as Jahy has to learn to survive after being brought down to human level, learning hard lessons in austerity after a lavish lifetime of supernatural excess.

* AmbiguousDisorder: Maou-sama; she is nonverbal (except for saying Jahy's name once) thus making it hard to decipher what she wants; she does not emote; and her mannerisms are odd such as when Jahy followed her throughout town. ''The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated!'' (ジャヒー様はくじけない!, ''Jahī-sama wa Kujikenai!'', "Jahy-sama Won't Be Discouraged!") is a manga by Wakame Konbu, starting publication in 2017.

Meet Jahy, the second-in-command of the Demon Realm. Powerful, ruthless, surrounded by luxury and loyal minions all over.

...Well, she ''was'', until the Demon Realm was destroyed by a certain Magical Girl.

Meet Jahy now. Living in an old apartment complex in squalor, and with no magic to sustain her, she's forced into SleepModeSize and has to reserve the limited time she can assume her original form for important matters only... like part-time work.

But she won't be discouraged! She will search for magical gems to eventually restore the Demon Realm. In the meantime, we get to watch her daily struggles to survive while saving face... [[ButtMonkey and laugh.]]

Will receive an anime adaptation in August 2021.

!!''The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated!'' provides examples of:

* AmbiguousDisorder: Mauo-sama; she is nonverbal (except for saying Jahy's name once) thus making it hard to decipher what she wants; she does not emote; and her mannerisms are odd such as when Jahy followed her throughout town. She eats a dog's food before taking a nap on the road and comes dangerously close to getting hit.
* AmbiguouslyGay: After a run in with Jahy's boss at the bathhouse, Salwa was too preoccupied thinking about the softness of the boss's bust, she completely forgot about Jahy.
* AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther: Despite their hostility, the landlady does care for Jahy in her own ways. For one, when she discovers Jahy being intimidated by the Magical Girl, she calls the police on her. In another, she makes it clear to Jahy that she would protect her when Jahy haphazardly installs traps for the Magical Girl if she were to come for her mystical gems.
* ButtMonkey: Jahy is constantly humiliated, demeaned, and undignified during her quest of restoring her realm.
* CatsAreMean: Jahy given how she has the appearance of a cat. And she is especially mean, or at the least, when she was in the Demon Realm that is.

* DoesNotLikeShoes:

** The Demon Lord, Maou-sama appears as a young girl who doesn't wear socks or any other footwear.

* EveryoneHasStandards: Jahy becomes increasingly disturbed by Druj's love of being treated like filth after [[HumanityIsInfectious living in the human world for a good while]].
* FatalFlaw: Her {{Pride}}. Even at her current status, she still tries to act haughty and powerful just to save face, especially to her previous aide, Druj. Half of her problems stem from her unwillingness to tell others that she's living a meager life, [[DontYouDarePityMe because that means accepting their pity and possible help.]]
* HeroAntagonist: The Magical Girl wholeheartedly views her destruction of the demon world and depriving the demons of their livelihood as a good thing, as she was brought to believe that the suffering of the world was caused by the demons and their magical gems, which results in her acting as a direct opposer of the main character Jahy and her quest to regain her power.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold:
** She already had ''some'' hints of hidden niceness even in the past, but coming to Earth and losing her power have caused Jahy to start developing a genuine sense of budding kindness underneath her smug and condescending attitude.
* TheJinx: The magical demon gems have this effect on any humans that possess them, with even a small one making the owner suffer bad luck like frequent tripping or animals attacking them, while a massive concentration of them being held under the "ownership" of a human will turn the place they keep it into a decrepit EldritchLocation constantly trying to kill them with bad fortune. The Magical Girl is only able to handle owning so many of them because of being incredibly tough through a combination of magical girl powers and natural sturdiness gained from being BornUnlucky even before she took up her role fighting demons and gathering gems.
* LaserGuidedKarma:
* NiceGirl:
* NoNameGiven: The Magical Girl is only known by her title.
* SleepModeSize: Due to being cut off from the Demon Realm's magic, Jahy is forced into a kid's body most of the time. She can assume her original form back, but can't hold it for too long, so she reserves it for important matters. Like doing part-time work.
* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome:
** Any time Jahy tries to go out in adult-mode while wearing her {{Stripperific}} demon-outfit, not only does she learn she's just as vulnerable to the cold as a human, but the police almost always detain her for committing public indecency.
** The Magical Girl confronts Jahy-chan... and gets arrested by the police for not only trying to assault somebody in broad daylight, but also trying to assault somebody (un-powered Jahy) that looks like a young girl.
* TooKinkyToTorture: Druj genuinely ''liked it'' when Jahy acted as an abusively controlling master, both because it showed whose boss between them and because she's a major masochist. Jahy becomes a bit uncomfortable about this part of Druj's personality whenever they have some alone-time following Jahy [[HumanityIsInfectious gaining a sense of morality]].
* UndyingLoyalty:
** After their final encounter, the Magical Girl decides to become Jahy's friend and becomes psychotically devoted to her much to the number 2 of the Demon Realm's chagrin.
* UnknownRival: Salwa had dedicated all her time and effort to becoming powerful as a means of usurping Jahy and taking her status as no. 2 of the Demon Realm. However, when she ''finally'' meets with Jahy, the ex-NumberTwo has no idea who she was.
* UnusuallyUninterestingSight: Neither the landlady nor her boss, and not even Kokoro, seem to comment on the fact that Jahy constantly spouts her intentions to reclaim the Demon Realm or the fact she can shift her appearance.
* VaporWear: Jahy in her SleepModeSize usually goes around wearing literally ''only'' a T-shirt, not only [[DoesNotLikeShoes refusing to wear shoes]] but also quite clearly not wearing any underwear based on some shots.
* TheWorldIsJustAwesome: In the bathhouse chapter, Jahy takes delight in something as small as the bubbles that the hair shampoo made.
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: Jahy had killed a lot of her servants for various reasons.
