''Magic Boy B.T.'', also known as ''Magical B.T.'' and ''Cool Shock B.T.'', is Creator/HirohikoAraki's first serialized series. Running from 1982-1983 in ''[[Magazine/ShonenJump Weekly Shonen Jump]]'', it's a collection of short stories featuring the titular character, B.T., [[NoNameGiven whose name has been censored into his initials]], and his borderline-criminal escapades with his (often unwilling) friend, Koichi.

The manga recieved a sequel one-shot by Creator/NisioIsin and Demizu Posuka, set 60 years later. Titled ''Magic Man B.T.'' (or ''Cool Shock Old B.T.''), the now-older B.T. and Koichi get into an adventure after meeting a mysterious man.

Not to be confused with the 1958 film ''Anime/ShonenSarutobiSasuke'' (relased as ''Magic Boy'' in the US).

Also not to be confused with the mecha anime ''Anime/BtX''.

!!This manga provides examples of:

* AntiHero: BT tends to steal and manipulate people for his own benefit and when he does good things, it's usually to sate his own curiosity. However, he does hold a soft spot for Koichi and goes against those who hurt him.
* AssholeVictim: Everyone who attracts BT's wrath except possibly Date, who probably snapped under pressure.
* BatmanGambit
** A lot of the tricks BT pulls off tend to rely on him predicting that his opponents would act in specific ways. An example is fooling a guard that was attacking him by coming up with bogus chemistry to make him surrender.
** Probably the best one is not by BT but by his grandmother. [[spoiler:The reason BT robbed the mall in the first place is because she showed him an ad for an exhibit that would arouse his curiosity. When the guards were chasing the boys, the girl that was with her earlier broke into the mall owner's office so they can get proof of him stealing jewelry.]]
* BigOlEyebrows: BT has eyebrows that extend past his face and onto his hair.
* CharacterTics: When BT gets mad, he touches his ears.
* CryingWolf: A strange example: BT convinces Ninomori to attack Date and then pretend to trip and fatally injure his head, so that BT can blackmail Date with ''murder''. [[spoiler:Unfortunately, BT's evidence of said blackmail gets accidentally destroyed, Ninomori ''dies for real'', and Date has decided to accuse him of causing said accident]]. To top it off, [[spoiler:Ninomori [[DisneyDeath actually suffered a short coma]] due to brain trauma.]].
* DisproportionateRetribution: Alright, Date is kind of an arrogant jerk, but did he ''really'' deserve to be blackmailed for a fake, staged accidental murder because he dares to date the girl BT likes?
* TheDogBitesBack: [[spoiler:Akagawa]], after being constantly abused by Kuroyama, loses it when [[spoiler:he thinks Kuroyama put the wasp in his trousers]].
* ExactWords: [[spoiler:"I saw Kuroyama putting an insect in your clothes." Akagawa thought that BT was talking about the dangerous wasp that stung him, which was placed inside his trousers]]. BT was talking about an earlier incident where someone put a dragonfly inside Akagawa's shorts while he was wearing them.
* {{Gaslighting}}: How BT deals with Mr. X.
* InvisibleParents: BT's parents are away for work. Averted with Koichi's family.
* {{Irony}}: The freckled boy [[spoiler:is ran over by an ambulance meant to help his family]].

* NoNameGiven: BT, due to investigations still ongoing.
* PsychopathicManchild: The Major Sergeant.
