Moving some tropes to the new character page.

* AdaptationalAngstUpgrade: Ryoma went through a ton of crap before he even entered the Getter.
** His father was [[AbusiveParents abusive]].
** One day, he came home to find his parents [[DrivenToSuicide had hanged themselves]].
** He was a massive outcast at school.
** Finally, shortly before he entered the Eagle Machine, he had to watch Michiru, one of the few people who treated him like a normal person, get bisected during the first Unevolved Lifeform's attack.
* AdaptationalHeroism: In ''Getter Robo Go'', Professor Rando was a villain out to TakeOverTheWorld. Here, Rando is merely an ObstructiveBureaucrat who has the world's protection in mind, and even objects to Saotome using kids to pilot the Getter on ethical grounds. [[spoiler:Real!Ryoma]] even {{Lampshades}} the differences between the two Randos [[spoiler:before killing him]].

* CompositeCharacter / CanonCharacterAllAlong: [[spoiler:Musashi turns out to be one. It turns out that the real Musashi Tomoe died as a baby and his parents adopted another 'Musashi' as a replacement. Eventually Musashi finds out that his real name is none other than Benkei Kuruma]].

* HalfTheWomanSheUsedToBe: [[spoiler:Michiru's fate]] in Chapter 1.
* TheLostLenore: [[spoiler:Michiru becomes this to Ryoma]].

* SadClown: Musashi is easily the friendliest and most easygoing of the Getter Team, but has complicated feelings due to being separated from his parents, as well as the fact that [[spoiler:he's a replacement baby for the ''real'' Musashi Tomoe]]. As a result, he gets nervous when he feels he isn't pulling his weight as a Getter pilot.
* SafetyInIndifference: Ryoma is detached and aloof because he's lost so much in life, from his parents to [[spoiler:Michiru]], that he doesn't want to become attached.

Was it stated in the manga that they're in middle school? Because the sources I've found state that Ryoma and Musashi are in high school, while Hayato is in college (making him older than the original was at the start).

In it, Doctor Saotome brings together [[YoungerAndHipper middle-school versions of]] Ryoma Nagare, Hayato Jin, and Musashi Tomoe to pilot his Getter Robo against the monstrous 'Unevolved.' However, as the new Getter Team discovers, there's more layers to this conflict than first appears, as it turns out [[TheMultiverse there are other Getter Teams across multiple worlds]]. But what happened to those other worlds? And what does it spell for ''this'' world?

Despite ''Devolution'''s Getter Team being younger than previous incarnations, the manga retains the darker themes seen in other parts of the franchise, complete with decidedly less than Family-Friendly violence. It also features a substantial number of MythologyGags and [[ContinuityNod Continuity Nods]] to previous ''Getter Robo'' works.

While it has yet to receive an AnimatedAdaptation like other ''Getter'' works, ''Devolution'' has been released in English by Creator/SevenSeasEntertainment. Additionally, ''Devolution'''s Getter Robo made an appearance in ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWars30'' as part of a DLC (alongside ''Getter Robo Armageddon'', which had appeared in the base game), with new voice actors for its Getter Team, and a theme composed by Eiichi Shimizu.

* ClapYourHandIfYouBelieve: In the final act, with the Getter on the ropes against the Getter Will, Ryoma calls on the eight billion people on Earth to believe in the Getter, just for one brief moment.
