* PlotTriggeringDeath: Kaguya's apparent demise is what makes Kara and Otsutsuki to take action only in ''Boruto'' 's present day and not in ''Naruto'', despite at least in the case of the latter, being alive by centuries.

* LogicalWeakness: On of Karma's withdraws is its inability to absorb non-chakra matter and energy such as natural flames, objects and viruses, making the wielder vulnerable to them.

* NobodyPoops: Inverted as usual by Naruto, even as an adult. Poor guy had to invoke several clones just to stop Kawaki and Boruto from fighting, while he was sitting on the closet.
* NoHuggingNoKissing: None of the {{Official Couple}}s are shown doing anything affectionate in public or in front of their children. At best, they flirt with each other. Naruto doesn't even sleep on the same bed with Hinata when he comes home late from work (because he doesn't want to wake her from peaceful sleep). The one exception so far is an episode where Sai gives Ino a CooldownHug that flusters her quite a bit due to Inoichi watching.

Both Sakura and Mitsuki theorise that the seal has a long and mysterious history, tracing its existence from the Age of the Sage of the Six Paths. The anime removes the scene with Mitsuki talking about the Byakugou Seal, and erases Sakura from the scene where she and Sarada buy flowers from Ino for Sasuke's return. In the anime, only Sarada visits Ino, therefore the conversation between her and her mother about the seal doesn;t exists at all. The manga doesn't makes anymore references further to the possible link.

* HowWeGotHere: Since the first scene of Boruto opens up with him and Kawaki [[spoiler: in their later teenage years, fighting each other and Konoha being destroyed once again]], the entire anime and manga are actually like a prequel to that scene, telling the story of how things got there, and what will happen to the characters.

* NeverTrustATrailer: A variation. The trailer released for advertising the coming of Kawaki in the anime, has a scene which is entirely different from how he meets team 7 in the manga. The scene presented in trailer is very reminiscent of how Sasuke has meet again his old team in Shippuden. When the anime actually caught up to that moment, it adapted the scene exactly how it was in the manga.

* ActingUnnatural: When Sarada secretly tries to retrieve the gift for a sick little girl, her mother's patient, Shizune catches Sarada behaving in an overly formal manner even for her. She asks Sarada what's wrong but all she is left with is a raised eyebrow.

* TheAlcoholic: Kokatsu is NOT the funny and friendly drunken ComicRelief usually met in a shonen anime. In fact, he is a rare example that shows the darker side of this trope. He is an abusive asshole, that often beat and starved his own son. Kawaki spent his first years of childhood trying to bring alcoholic drinks for his father, and when he would not manage, his father would go as far away as breaking the bottle in his own son head. But the lowest point Kokatsu hits is when [[spoiler:he sells Kawaki to Jigen]] for more alcohol.

* ButtMonkey: Not a person as much as a place this time. Remember how Konoha was attacked and almost destroyed several times in ''Naruto''? Once by Kyuubi, once by Orochimaru and completely destroyed by Pain's attack, even some filler villains were close to nuke Konoha. Come ''Boruto'', which continues the trend. Sumire Kaikei was dangerously close to doing it, then Momoshiki and Kinshiki came, and wrecked a stadium, then Isshiki came to mess things up a little as well, until Boruto forcefuly dragged him away. Not to mention the first scene of ''Boruto'' which shows Konoha [[spoiler: being in complete ruins]], again.

** Team 10 is aknowledged to be another top elite team, At least from Metal Lee point of view, they are not far behind Team 7. Just like Team 7, they have HeroicAncestry and took countless dangerous missions which where suposed to be easy at first.

** With ''UsefulNotes/TheEuropeanUnion'' it shares the similar sounding name, being an almost free trade and movement area and similar ways of organization. Namely, they have village representatives that monthly meet at the official headquarters located in Iron Land, much like real [=MEPs=] meet at Bruxelles to discuss political matters. The ''Great Shinobi Countries'' have similar social policies, are interdependent from an economical and political point of view, much like the UE, having exchange programs for students, with an open-minded view over receiving outsiders, leading to the population mixing up and growing fast.

* MissingMom: Sumire's mother died of deppression after her father's fall in disgrace for serving Danzo.

** One of Isshiki's specialities is to invoke hundreds of metal sticks and throwing them at the enemy. He can use them to locate people.

* OneDialogueTwoConversations: Happens between Mitsuki and Sumire, when he comes to visit her at hospital. They both speak cryptically, as if they were trying the ground. They both keep the discussion at a polite level, but their words were hiding warnings from each side. Mitsuki constantly asks Sumire about how she feels about the attacks. [[spoiler: He already knows it was Sumire behind them]]. By the end of discussion, Sumire realize Mitsuki knows the truth and will likely try and stop her, so she explains her past to him, but keeping same double meaning of her own words.

** Mugino himself gets his past explored in episode 180, who spends half of his time telling Boruto his life story.

* WorldBuilding: ''Boruto'' takes the Otsutsuki further and starts to develop their mythos, revealing that Kaguya too was part of a duo, and that said duo is depicted in a temple in another dimension, where there are logos depicting Momoshiki and Kinshiki too, and there are 2 other logos too (all but confirming the exsistence of other two Otsutsuki that have yet to come), the role of the Juubi in the Otsutsuki clan's actions is also greatly expanded, revealing that there multiple speciemen of it. With the introduction of cyborgs, augmentations and technology, the Ninja World entered a new era where is shown new era where is shown the effects and consequences of such things.

** If it can be believed, Sakura starts to show some characteristics as an adult. Her fiery temper is gone though she stays genki, she is now an OlderAndWiser NiceGirl, as a mother she is very nurturing, patient and mild-mannered, acting like a WarriorTherapist. She stayed loyal to her husband for years, never doubting his mission. Sakura is also much more feminine and according to Sarada, she became a very decent cook.

* SickEpisode: Episode 18 of Boruto is about Himawari having a fever. It's used as ADayInTheLimelight episode for Himawari and a chance to focus on the relationship between Naruto and his kids. * SickeningCrunch: The voice acting and the sounds effects of
cracking bones sound quite unsettling when [[spoiler:Isshiki]] breaks Boruto's arm and steps on his back.

* SickEpisode: Episode 18 of Boruto is about Himawari having a fever. It's used as ADayInTheLimelight episode for Himawari and a chance to focus on the relationship between Naruto and his kids.

** Happens again in episode 230, Crunchyroll translated Naruto's words to Kawaki as "You'll be accompanying me on missions as a genin.", when the more accurate translation would be "Your will take missions as a genin, under my supervision/authority." For example, the spanish sub correctly translated the line as "Emprederas misiones como genin bajo mi supervision".
* BloodlessCarnage: ZigZagged. In ''Naruto'' one would expect to see characters visibly bleed from getting caught in a paper bomb explosion (barring special defenses). In Boruto, they barely get their clothes dirty. At the same time, there are scenes from ''Boruto manga'' that are altered to be more gory in the anime, like [[spoiler: Mugino's death, where he bleeds more in the anime than the manga]].

** Kara brings in mind Akatsuki by being another OddlySmallOrganization with dangerous members, who wants to take over the world for mysterious reasons. Akatsuki was known for their {{Anti Villain}}s forging long-lasting friendships, but Kara is full members who are ready to betray and backstab each other at every turn. Just like some Akatsuki members, Kara also has members who augmented their bodies, but not trough ninjutsu, but augmented science. And lastly, Kara don't regard themselves as ninjas like Akatsuki, but as something superior to ninjas.

* BewareTheNiceOnes: Because the new generation lives in an even more peaceful era, the chidren are more approachable and emotionally echilibrated then their predecesors. This being said, their parents, whom many of them happen to be powerhouses, also spent more time with their children, leading them to learn dangerous jutsus from a younger age. Boruto and his peers may be more relaxed and happy-go-lucky, but they will retaliate hard, and possible with a murder or two.

* AbortedArc: The anime build up for a while the bond between Boruto and Sumire, and the manga has an explicit scene where Sumire confesses her romantic feelings to Sarada. The anime removes that scene between the girls, and makes Sumire unaware of her feelings for Boruto.

** [[spoiler:At the end of chapter 65, Kawaki activates his new karma, and manifests the horned state again, but this time his left eye changes too, becoming a single blank pupil with a spike in it. It resembles '''Isshiki' Doujutsu''']].

* ADeathInIheLimelight: [[spoiler:Mugino]] gets his past explored and the anime greatly expanded his role and importance in the story just before his death.

** In episode 11, Wasabi's mother appears to have short brown hair , while her father is tall, lean, with dark hair. Comes episode 222 where her parents finally make an official appearance and... they are nothing alike to their brief appearance from episode 11. Now, her mother wears glasses and has wavy blond hair, while her father is a hulk of a man invoking BaldOfAwesome.

* AncientConspiracy: Beside Zetsu behind every big event that happened in the Ninja World, there are some other mysterious things about Otsutsuki. Amado makes a little bit of light and reveals how the Ōtsutsuki [[spoiler:have been travelling from planet to planet, harvesting chakra for the sake of evolving themselves while destroying the planet in the process]]. Those were Kaguya's and Isshiki's plans for Earth, [[spoiler:but there was a falling-out which left Isshiki mortally wounded]]. Therefore, [[spoiler:Isshiki used Jigen]] as his vessel for centuries.

* ContrivedCoincidence: It seems that Temari, Ino, Sakura, Hinata and Karui were all pregnant within a year or so of each other because almost everyone from the Konoha 11 has chidren of around the same age. Even Gaara adopted a kid who has Boruto's age, and Orochimaru has created Mitsuki to be exactly 12 years old.

* BreakingOldTrends: Kishimoto once said that we wont see firearms or certain advanced technologies. By the time of ''Boruto'', the technology matches our 21 century, and [[spoiler:Ao]] uses machine guns to kill Team 7.

** Most of [[VillainOfTheWeek Villains Of The Week]] don't have any direct counterpart from ''Naruto'', but they still contrast the previous villains by their role in the story. In ''Naruto'' most of them were people with sad pasts™, driven over the edge, that were shown to the smallest detail. They would often be {{Anti Villain}}s for Naruto to "cure". But Boruto's villain, are most of time greedy and sociopathic people with no remorse for the damage they are doing. Their pasts, rarely get explored.
* ContrivedCoincidence: It seems that Temari, Ino, Sakura, Hinata and Karui were all pregnant in the same time because almost everyone from Konoha 11 has chidren of exactly same age. Even Gaara adopted a kid who has Boruto's age, and Orochimaru has created Mitsuki to be exactly 12 years old.
