* LateArrivalSpoiler: Other than Japan turning into a sexual wasteland, the prologue avoids giving much context for anything that's going on. Which is surprising, since even ''Choubu no Shinobi'', which is set centuries earlier, spoiled who the Boss of the Organization was.

Alice Fujii still isn't having much fun. She survived an [[CarnivalOfKillers assault]] of psychotic bug-themed assassins at her school, but all the battles, the truth behind her family, the two betrayals from false friends who ended up dead and the loss of her [[RazorFloss Kumoito knife-gun]] took [[SanitySlippage a toll on her mental state]]. As such, she spends her days alone splitting open the heads of the [[PlagueZombie rapist zombies]] who overran Japan since the aforementioned incident. The Organization now wants to hire her as their new Boss, and elsewhere her allies Gokiburi and Kabutomushi are looking for her. What will become of all this?

[[AndNowForSomeoneCompletelyDifferent Putting that aside]], newcomer Chiyuri Haijima is about to have one heck of a time in the apocalypse. An easygoing homeless girl, she possesses cockroach powers but has evaded the Organization's grasp. Starting from half a day before the disaster, we follow Chiyuri as she stumbles into a certain ant-girl and gets involved in the greater scope of those events.

* EyeScream: Alice kicks one zombie's face so hard one of his eyes pops out. It's actually like the third or fourth time she did something like this.

** Originally, Dinoponera was depicted under MagicSkirt rules and had no fanservicey scenes outside of two mild official illustrations. Then the reprise of her debut in ''Caterpillar'' ignored that and gave her several panty shots. Her introduction scene in this story shows her outright naked.

* NotAsYouKnowThem: Averted with Alice; ''Arachnid'' ended with the impression she was going to embrace the Kumo title and turn into a real maniac, but what we see here is that, while she got more blood on her hands, she's the same well-meaning girl as before.

* ImmediateSequel: Takes place only a few days since Alice was last seen, at most.

* HotterAndSexier: There's plenty of female nudity here, though mostly in a FanDisservice fashion. And if ''Manga/ChoubuNoShinobi'' is any indication, nipples should get uncensored on the volume releases.

** Back in ''Caterpillar'', when Hanakamakiri was facing her master, she pretended to be as depraved as him by claiming she was following Imomushi around to cut all her limbs off. At the beginning of ''Blattodea'', the previously OnlySaneWoman Alice does just that to a random zombie girl so we know how dire the situation is and how ruthless [[ItGetsEasier she's growing to be]].

* DecoyProtagonist: Alice is the focus of Chapter 0 and all the marketing for the series' release focused on her. Now go look "[[CreepyCockroach blattodea]]" up on a dictionary. Downplayed in that the ending words for the magazine version of the prologue tease [[{{Deuteragonist}} "another" protagonist]] for the next chapter, so Alice isn't actually going out of focus.

* AndNowForSomeoneCompletelyDifferent: The new blattodea protagonist isn't Megumi Oki, but instead a new roach-girl called Chiyuri Haijima.

* {{Bookends}}: The final chapter of ''Arachnid'' started with some dramatic narration about the troubles Alice had overcome and then a double spread of her looking determined (and nude). This story opens the same way, but with the narrator teasing some kind of bug that's superior to spiders.

* AndNowForSomeoneCompletelyDifferent: The new blattodea protagonist isn't Megumi Oki, but instead a new roach-girl called Chiyuri Narishima.

* {{Foreshadowing}}: One of the first panels in the story is a close up of a cockroach. It is implied by the title ''"Blattodea"'' that Gokiburi is the actual protagonist of the story.

* PosthumousCharacter: Alice's former master Kumo, who kidnapped and trained her as an adopted daughter but forced her to a DuelToTheDeath after her training was completed.

* ButNowIMustGo: Alice left Gokiburi's bunker to be a killer hobo for three reasons. First, Gokiburi is just less [[PsychoLesbian horny and forceful]] than the zombies outside, and while Alice likes Goki back she was afraid of snapping and harming her. Second, she's becoming addicted to violence. Third, she doesn't feel at "home".

** The beginning [[AsYouKnow recaps]] Alice [[ButNowIMustGo leaving Gokiburi behind]].

* YouKillItYouBoughtIt: Strangely, the synopsis for the story talks about Alice having killed the Boss in ''Arachnid'' even though it was Kabutomushi. Nonetheless, Hanakamakiri forces Alice to take the role as Suzumebachi told her to.

* ButNowIMustGo: Alice left Gokiburi's bunker to be a killer hobo for three reasons. First, Gokiburi is just less [[PsychoLesbian horny and forceful]] than the zombies outside, and while Alice likes Goki back she was afraid of snapping and harming her. Second, she's becoming addicted to violence. Third, she really wanted to return to her late master's house and have a good cry on her lonesome.

* DecoyProtagonist: Alice is the focus of Chapter 0 and all the marketing for the series' release focused on her. Now go look "[[CreepyCockroach blattodea]]" up on a dictionary.

* YouCantGoHomeAgain: In the prologue, Alice monologues about how she feels like she doesn't belong anywhere since her mother got killed. Hanakamakiri claims the Organization can help fill that hole in her heart after all.

* AnArmAndALeg: The story opens with Alice having just completely crippled a hapless zombie girl. In one of the next pages, there's a newspaper recommending the survivors do this to the not-actually-dead zombies.

''Blattodea'' is a 2020 shonen manga written by Creator/ShinyaMurata and illustrated by Hayami Tokisada that's published on the Gangan JOKER magazine. It is a direct sequel to ''Manga/{{Arachnid}}'' from 2009.

* AnAxeToGrind: Alice lost the Kumoito and has been fighting with a hatchet instead. Oddly enough the narrator ''doesn't'' draw any comparisons between spiders and hatchet.

** Alice goes back to her late uncle's house to rest. The stuffed bear she used to cope with Kumo's death is still in the same place.
