** Well, when we see him later at [[spoiler: his wedding]] his face is still scratched up, but not bleeding any more.
* Donna Jo Napoli's ''Sirena'' is based partially on the legend of Philoctetes (see below): Sirena tries to take care of Philoctetes' wound, but every day it requires special care, and it never gets better (in a variance from the source material, the reason that the crew abandoned Philoctetes on the island was that he was bitten by a snake sent by ''Hera'', and they didn't want to be harboring a man who had angered the Queen of the Gods.

* Ganondorf as he is seen in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess has one. The game works on the premise that when Link from Ocarnia of Time came back from the future he warned everyone about Ganondorf's plan to siege the kingdom of Hyrule and Ganondorf was captured, put on trial, and sentenced to execution by the Sages, they then took him to an execution ground in the Gerudo Desert where the elemental Sages used a supernatural sword to impale Ganondorf with. However Ganondorf did not die thanks to having the Triforce of Power to call upon which saved his life, despite the gaping hole in his chest Ganondorf went on a rampage and the Sages were forced to seal him into another realm. Years later when he finally escapes and sieges the kingdom of Hyrule, as he had always intended, he has the same wound where the Sages impaled him through the heart, where Ganondorf's heart use to be there is only a gaping glowing hole in his chest, fitting that the Sages would remove all illusion that the man had a heart to begin with wouldn't you agree? What makes it even funnier is that Ganondorf uses the same supernatural sword that was used to execute him with as a weapon. He even has it in his beast form. In the end, Link completes Ganondorf's execution by stabbing the Master Sword through the same wound.

* In [=~Robin McKinley~=]'s ''Sunshine'', the title character is given a cut on her chest by a vampire. While the other injuries she takes during the experience heal normally, the cut lingers for months, scabbing over and then cracking and bleeding again, until Constantine helps her purge the taint.

* In ''Dracula'', the wound to the forehead that Harker gives the count early in the novel never heals. Whether this is because Dracula, being already dead, cannot heal wounds, or simply because not enough time passes, or something else, is never made clear.

** Another version of this story is Philoctetes, who is accidentally scratched by one of these arrows during the siege of Troy. Philoctetes was not caused pain by the scratch, but the never healing wound stank like a mountain of corpses, which was unbearable during a prolonged siege, as there was no way to escape it. Philoctetes was exiled from Troy, and when he left, he took the quiver of Hydra venom tipped arrows with him (they were his property, having been a gift from Hercules), and when the gods tell the Trojans that the only way they can defeat Achilles is with one of these arrows, the Trojans end up having to swallow their pride and beg Philoctetes to return.
