* The short-lived [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mexia_Supermarket Mexia Supermarket]] in [[UsefulNotes/DFWMetroplex Fort Worth, Texas]] opened in the late 1990s[[note]]sources vary on an exact date of opening; with it speculated as opening no later than October 5, 1998 due to that date being when sales tax first took effect in Texas[[/note]] in a building that previously housed another local grocery store known as Danals before closing abruptly in the summer of 1999[[note]]again, the exact date is unclear due to conflicting sources[[/note]] when the owners filed for bankruptcy. Needless to say, the hot Texas summers - combined with the fact that the food was left in the building - meant that all the food began spoiling, attracting various insects and rodents to the decaying food[[note]]making matters worse, during the summer local food banks were desperate for food donations, and had the closure been handled better the remaining items could have been donated long before it could spoil[[/note]] while also resulting in bacteria such as E.coli and oxygen levels dropping to dangerous levels. By October, a sickening stench was increasingly noticed through the area and eventually Fort Worth's Health Department declared the store a health hazard, having to fumigate the building, send the cleaning crew with HAZMAT suits and the cleanup taking the remainder of November 1999 (one pleasant surprise was that most of the perishables were in containers or plastic wraps, making things easier in terms of cleanup). Amazingly, the building following the cleanup was able to avoid being demolished, and as of 2022 has been split between a Dollar General and an auto parts store.
