* [[TropeInversion Inverted]] in Creator/FrederickForsyth's ''Icon'' (i.e., "overlords with an F in PR"): When [[TheMole Aldrich Ames]] betrays the names of 13 Russians working for the CIA, the KGB decides to arrest them all, simultaneously. The lower-ranking agents running the operation practically weep with despair, saying the KGB might as well have taken out an ad in ''The New York Times'', informing the CIA that ''"we have a high-ranking mole in your agency and here's a list of the people he's given us."'' Fortunately for the KGB, and Ames, the CIA is [[IdiotBall too thick to take the hint]], instead deciding that all 13 agents must have made some kind of careless mistake, at more or less the same time.

Jacky is narrowly saved from being chomped and quits on the spot; since the Secretary's cowardice was captured on camera, Jacky's replacement hurriedly releases a statement that the footage was ''"taken out of context."'' One newscaster's knee-jerk response is, ''"the Secretary of the Interior threw a woman at an alligator! What [[PrecisionFStrike fucking]] context do you need for '''that'''?!"''

* ''Series/StarTrekTheNextGeneration'': In "[[Recap/StarTrekTheNextGenerationS3E11TheHunted The Hunted]]", Picard and Troi are berating the seemingly benevolent government of Angosia for its shameful treatment of its war veterans - to wit, locking them away in a GildedCage and trying its best to forget they exist, without trying to reverse their SuperSoldier conditioning. Prime Minister Nayrok repeats all of his previous platitudes, about how they studied the conditioning thoroughly and concluded that it can never be completely reversed, and how ''"the people"'' chose to ''"resettle"'' the soldiers, ''"for the greater good."'' Then his adjutant, Zayner, adds, ''"besides, we may need to use them again someday"'', effectively admitting that the government never seriously tried to reverse the soldiers' conditioning and assumes (rather idiotically) that if called again, the veterans will take up arms on behalf of the society that discarded them. Picard and Troi are starting to tear a strip off the entire Angosian government when the soldiers come storming into the building.

* ''Film/ThePatriot2000'': Colonel Tavington, the field commander of the British dragoons, adopts extremely harsh policies towards the Americans, having wounded enemy soldiers gunned down and setting fire to the homes of non-combatants who sheltered them. General Cornwallis berates Tavington for his savagery, calling it unbecoming of OfficerAndAGentleman and reminding him of the King's wishes that there will be a reconciliation with the colonists (their fellow countrymen) after the rebellion is put down. He later rightfully points out that [[CreateYourOwnHero Tavington's cruelty has directly motivated men like Benjamin Martin to take up arms]].
