** This is the main reason many people opt to be put under during the actual surgery. However, even afterwards there is pain in the area (usually, pain pills are prescribed), sometimes accompanied by bruised cheeks, sores around the corners of the mouth, or a particularly nasty condition called dry-socket.
** There is ''some'' good news, though - apparently, a new type of needle that makes the injection less painful is being developed.
** "Dry socket", a horrible complication of getting a tooth removed, which happens when the blood clot that should fill the socket afterwards falls out, leaving the bone exposed to air. Cue unbearable pain for days or even weeks until enough new flesh finally grows to cover it up. This is why you're told not to drink through a straw, chew gum, or smoke after getting a tooth removed, particularly wisdom teeth--the suction has a high chance of causing it.
