* ''WesternAnimation/TheLegendOfKorra'': It's not Britain but an Asian-inspired, fictional city but the effect is the same. When the Equalists find out that the police station communications staff, mostly composed of unarmed non-benders, doesn't support their ideology, they are exterminated.

* ''VideoGame/TheGetaway1'': Since it's Britain and regular cops don't carry guns, Harry makes a point of mocking and shooting them whenever he can. He's fully aware they can't defend themselves and murders them before they can summon an Armed Response Unit.

* ''VideoGame/DestroyAllHumans2'': A justified aversion occurs with the police officers seen in Albion. Since unarmed policemen wouldn't offer any kind of challenge to the player, they are given firearms in the game.

In most cases, the coppers know that there are likely to be guns involved and will send the Armed Response Units (police officers complete with {{Bulletproof Vest}}s, helmets, and Heckler and Koch [=MP5=] submachine guns) in first. However, sometimes they get it wrong and a gun ends up being produced.

Contrast ArmedAltruism, a character giving their sole weapon to someone they want safe in immediate combat. See OldFashionedCopper, for another trope about British bobbies; in this case, when they are characterized as being morally upstanding law enforcers.

* ''Series/{{Sherlock}}'': In [[Recap/SherlockS04E01TheSixThatchers "The Six Thatchers"]], Lestrade shows up to arrest the perps with a handful of unarmed officers despite the mastermind being known to have relations with a black ops team. As a result, a character dies while the police watch powerlessly.

* ''Series/BlueLights'': A rare inversion. As the series is set in Northern Ireland, all of the police characters carry personal protection weapons (a Glock 17 pistol) both on and off duty, thereby being suitably equipped to respond to any armed criminal intervention.

* ''Series/MidsomerMurders'': When Barnaby arrives to to arrest the killer in "[[Recap/MidsomerMurdersS18E5 Saints and Sinners]]", they grab Kam and hold a knife to her throat; holding Barnaby and Nelson at bay long enough to deliver their MotiveRant. Barnaby eventually distracts the killer long enough for Kam to break free, at which point the killer is collared by Barnaby and Nelson.

This does not stop Lynley from [[UndyingLoyalty flipping his]] [[YouCalledMeXItMustBeSerious shit]] over it.
