** ''VideoGame/TalesOfXillia2'': Elle keeps chiming in during battle, often complimenting Ludger or the character he is currently linked with. She also likes to yell out what attack works on an enemy ''just after you hit the enemy with said type of attack''. And she will do this multiple times during the battle. Later in the game, [[spoiler: Elle leaves the party and doesn't return anymore, not even being available to your party for the post-game part, as it saves the events just prior to the final dungeon]] and most players are quite pleased about this.

While the NPC may, or may not, be annoying, they're not really an example of this trope
* ''VideoGame/{{Aquaria}}'' has an annoying sidekick that moves slowly, has barely any firepower compared to the protagonist, and never says a word. You are nevertheless required to keep him around and rescue him once, because the game author [[RomanticPlotTumor forces him to be a love interest]] for your main character, even if this is [[StrangledByTheRedString very badly written]] and doesn't make sense on several levels (such as that they're of a [[InterspeciesRomance different species]]). ** Mercifully, it's possible to dump the annoying useless guy and come back only when you actually need him to get past some point in the game.

* ''VideoGame/MedievalIITotalWar'' was essentially advisor-free (you could disable it completely, and if you didn't it only gave you the advice once). Life was good. And then a ''patch'' introduced a ''battle commentator'' giving you the play-by-play. "The battle is swinging in our favor! If we can press on, victory is ours! Our forces are badly blooded! KILL YOURSELF, KILL YOURSELF AND THE IMMERSION YOU RODE IN ON, YOU [[ViewersAreMorons PATHETIC MORON]]!". And the worst thing ? The voice was in culture-dependent [[JustAStupidAccent silly accent]].

* ''BrutalDoom'' switches some powerups with imprisoned marines, which help you fight monsters if freed. Unfortunately they motor around like gazelles on crack and don't always stop before doorways and rooms, which causes them to often trigger enemy ambushes, at which point you usually have to help them or watch them get killed.

* Parodied in this strip of Webcomic/TheNoob webcomic: ''[[http://www.thenoobcomic.com/index.php?pos=89 The PvP Paperclip]]''. Microsoft Word meets [=MMORPG=] tutorials. If the idea of a cheerful "helper" popping up and announcing loudly (and cheerfully), "Hello! It seems that you want to kill that guy! Did you know that you could stealth to hit him by surprise?" doesn't give you nightmares, you're not fit to call yourself a computer geek.

** The Arisen can instruct his or her main Pawn to "speak or be silent as the situation demands" by using certain Knowledge Chairs, but in practice it really doesn't seem to matter all that much. Especially since in a full party, the other two Pawns' personalities are subject to the whims of their own Arisen (or the AI in an offline game).
