** Probably as a tribute to its Roguelike ancestors, earlier versions of ''VideoGame/DwarfFortress'' had a small possibility of this happening to your dwarves, leading to spiral staircases being depreciated; once one of them started falling, they'd carry on 'til they reached the bottom, picking up speed all the way, and LudicrousGibs on impact were not unheard of. This feature seems to have been removed at some point, however.
