* In ''{{VideoGame/Persona 4}} [[UpdatedReRelease Golden]]'', you're given the quest "100% Inaba-Grown Cabbage," where you help a local, freelance vegetable merchant/housewife ride out a cabbage shortage by helping her compensate for the deficit by growing your own and she'll give you the 'Sharp Shovel' weapon for the MC as a reward. Not only does the shovel deal great damage for when you get it, it's special effect is a free casting of Auto-Tarukaja, meaning it does even more damage during the first three turns of any fight it's used.

** The thing never was intended to dig trenches in the first place. You dig foxholes with it. When it comes to digging trenches you get a full-sized shovel. As for it's use as a weapon... that's the reason those entrenching tools were never issued to the troops that were sent to control the protests in the end of 1980s.

** Rifles, especially the long rifles issued during WorldWarI, were too cumbersome for the confined spaces of trenches. Many bayonets (especially the British "sword" style bayonets) were themselves too long on top of the already too cumbersome rifles. Knives, hammers, spades, and even brass kncukles, were supposedly preferred over bayonets in close combat in the trenches.
