* ''Literature/EverybodyLiesInHell'': Anyone who enters Hell has their own private Hell that is modeled after a place that meant something to them in life (often where they died) and comes with a LimitedWardrobe, but those who are less able to process what happens drift out of their private Hells and end up either punishing themselves for eternity or trying to pretend they're still alive in someone else's private Hell. Most injuries last for eternity, and eventually, souls who are hurt badly enough, lose their sense of awareness, or did certain evil acts descend to a dungeon cell where demons torture them nonstop. SelfInflictedHell is also at play in the story, as how bearable a private Hell is often depends on how much someone thinks they deserve to be punished, [[spoiler:and it's possible to escape that feeling if you accept what you have done but feel you have managed to redeem yourself.]]

* ''ComicBook/TheChroniclesOfWormwood'':
** While Heaven seems to be a nice place [[spoiler:especially given that God is a lunatic]] (we see Buddhists cheerfully talking with priests, fluffy clouds everywhere, a concert featuring Jimi Hendrix, getting in is merely a matter of doing as little deliberate harm to others), there is one exception: a suicide bomber who gets 72 virgins for eternity. That is, 72 screaming, hungry, cranky ''babies''.
** Hell is the standard FireAndBrimstoneHell, but there seems to be a degree of personalization: a pedophile is approached by demons who look like children with monstrous mandibles on their backs. It's stated that the real punishment of Hell is that all your self-delusion/justification/deception is stripped away ("even the truly insane") and you're left with the absolute knowledge that you ''deserve'' to be there.

* The afterlife in ''Film/WhatDreamsMayCome'' has some shared spaces but everyone who arrives starts out in a space that's tailored specifically to them. For Chris, the protagonist, this means he finds himself in a landscape based on his wife Annie's paintings, to the point that everything from the flowers to the lake to his cup of coffee is initially made out of paint. [[spoiler: It's revealed that suicide victims like Annie do this to ''themselves'' as well--committing suicide doesn't immediately consign a soul to Hell, but those who do it are so miserable that they end up trapped in personalized versions of their own despair permanently. Annie's Hell, for instance, resembles her and Chris's home, but it is now a collapsing ruin, while she herself suffers from amnesia and can't remember anything about herself.]]
