* [[InvertedTrope Inverted]] in the ''WesternAnimation/TaleSpin'' episode "The Idol Rich," when Baloo and Kit take part in a treasure hunt. The treasure is said to be "right under your nose." A map of the area shows a lake that's shaped like a moose's head. An exchange with Colonel Spigot and some troops from Thembria results in Baloo being held upside down. When they do, Baloo sees that Moose Lake resembles a nose with a moustache under it.

* The Lower Peninsula of UsefulNotes/{{Michigan}} looks a lot like a mitten, leading to the image of Michiganders pointing at their hands to indicate locations like cities.

* ''Manga/OnePiece'' plays with the trope; Jaya doesn't look like anything in the present, but it used to be shaped like a skull in the distant past, until an especially strong Knock-Up Stream tore the island in half.

* ''ComicBook/Agent327'': In "Dossier Stemkwadrater", [[BigBad Dr. Maybe's]] VolcanoLair is located on an island shaped like his signature symbol; a question mark.

* ''ComicBook/SuperboyNew52'' introduces [[IslandOfMystery Mystery Island]], shaped like a question mark, which is pointed out to be weird as the characters work to solve the mystery of the isle.
* ''ComicBook/TransformersMoreThanMeetsTheEye'': Downplayed and lampshaded when Rodimus and several of the ''Lost Light'''s crew are pursuing [[TheMole Brainstorm]] through time to stop him from [[SetRightWhatOnceWentWrong assassinating Optimus Prime in the past]] so the Decepticons win the war. They encounter Orion Pax (pre-Optimus) and a small team defending a hot spot (i.e. a part of Cybertron that becomes energised, giving rise to [[OurSoulsAreDifferent Sparks]] that eventually become Cybertronians). This particular hot spot is being targeted by the corrupt Senate because from above, it happens to resemble a hand. The Senate fears that [[TheFundamentalist the Functionists]] [[note]] religious zealots who traditionally hold to the idea that a Cybertronian's alt-mode is divinely assigned and so cannot/ should not be changed, so if you happen to transform into a tank, your job, for life, is to be a soldier. [[/note]] will use this to bolster their waning power by claiming Primus, the Transformer creator-god, is trying to "press" the planet back into shape. The Senate is apparently trying to destroy the hot spot before the Functionalists learn of it, and naturally Orion and his team (beholden to neither side) are trying to hold them off until the nascent Sparks can be safely evacuated.

AFN comedian Ryan [=McMayhon=] jokes "Some assembly required" after seeing an actual map of North America, which only resembles a turtle if it's been a very unfortunate amphibian indeed.

Pointedly trying to avoid interacting with Bart, he indulges in some MapStabbing to look for somewhere to go. He hits an island named "Bartovia" shaped like a winking Bart's head and irritably says "Now cut that out" before trying again.
