** There was a time period in the early 90's when the X-Men wore matching uniforms to signify their unity as a team, as they had gotten back together after having gradually disbanded following ''Inferno''. During this time, Gambit wore his headgear and occasionally his trenchcoat, while Banshee wore his signature striped cape (implied to help him fly), and a shirt collar like the one on his old costume.

* PlayedForDrama in ''WesternAnimation/BarbiePrincessCharmSchool''. Someone breaks into Blair's dorm room and destroys her and her roommates' school uniforms right before an exam that will determine whether they pass the semester. Lacking the time to get replacement uniforms or report the vandalism, they hastily improvise {{Custom Uniform}}s from the remains of their old ones. When they arrive for the exam, they're almost refused entry, but successfully argue that their "uniforms" are still within the dress code due to being made entirely out of actual school uniforms. It doesn't take long for other students to copy them.

* A rather ridiculous example comes from ''Manga/JojosBizarreAdventureStoneOcean'': the immates of Green Dolphin Street prision wear all sorts of different outfits, not even limited to the main characters this time. It seems the only "uniform" in the prison is wearing the name somewhere on the back of the outfit.

* ''VideoGame/IdolManager'': The PaletteSwap system that generates the idol portraits creates variation via each possible pose having its own general outfit shape, to which different outfit designs can be applied. Any occurrence upon which two idols with different poses, but the same outfit design are visible at the same time will fall into this trope, as the constants of poses include always having a specific belt, always having a given sleeve length (if sleeves are present at all) or even always being shorts instead of a dress/skirt.

** Lieutenants Matt and Kimolu show a practical reason for Starfleet to be more flexible about uniforms than real-world uniformed services -- they wear the top uniform modified to be more tube-like and with the sleeves reduced to almost nothing, and go without pants or a skirt, but as beluga whales they physically ''can't'' use the same uniform as their humanoid colleagues.

Of the two currently known members, the leader Miyabi and Soukaku, there appears to be ''extremely'' lax regulation about what ''style'' they're supposed to be, as Miyabi has an extremely long, conservative black skirt that reaches past her knees, while Soukaku has a mini-skirt that barely covers her thighs and waist. There also appears to be an extremely lax policy on accessorizing, as Soukaku has several playful charms and stickers on her person despite being in uniform.

** ''Series/ResshaSentaiToQger'': The SixthRanger has black gloves and boots instead of white ones and a slightly different helmet style. His chest number is in the middle of the chest instead of to one side. The chest number is also surrounded by a yellow and black circle instead of a white and black one and doesn't have more lines coming off of it. He also wears yellow and black suspenders and a yellow and black belt instead of a silver belt. Interestingly, when Right briefly uses the orange suit in the last episode the gloves and boots are white instead (This might be because the orange suit's regular user is a reformed shadow). The epilogue movie adds a seventh ranger who uses the same helmet as the sixth but otherwise looks the same as the core rangers except for also having his chest number in the center with six lines coming off of it instead of four.
*** This trope is played for laughs in one of the movies where each of the core five rangers gets an animal-themed upgrade. Three of them get new weapons attached to their gloves, and one gets wings attached to his arms, but the pink ranger gets her suit almost entirely replaced with a panda costume.

* In the first season of ''Series/Space1999'' the crew of Moonbase Alpha all wore the same beige uniform, the only difference between them being the colour of one sleeve, denoting their department. The only exceptions were Koenig's, which had a round collar in the command colour of black, Bergman's, which had no sleeve colour, befitting his status as an OmnidisciplinaryScientist and the sash worn by security guards. In the second season, the producers made an attempt to 'humanise' the characters by giving them jackets to wear over their tunics. The jackets, which came in several designs and colours (usually unrelated to the department colour and then only coincidentally) were often decorated with the insignia and patches of various organisations which no longer had any real relevance to the Alphans. Although the main characters wore the same jackets fairly consistently, others were passed around amongst the supporting cast. Koenig also got to wear a sleeveless waistcoat on one occasion and female Alphans now had the option of wearing skirts. The most non-uniform uniform worn by any Alphan was that seen on a one episode character played by Patrick Mower. It not only featured a camouflage-patterned jacket but a stetson hat and cowboy boots!
