A standard comedy misunderstanding, often the start of a ThreeIsCompany. A character claims a loved one "is no longer with us", "has moved on", "isn't here anymore", "has joined the choir invisible" etc. Everyone takes this to mean they've died, but no, in fact the character was talking literally and they've just gone to work, are on holiday, or are in a a musical group that prevents its members from being seen. If these euphemisms become too obvious or contrived, the listener or the speaker has sometimes picked up the IdiotBall.
