Compare KickTheMoralityPet and TheAtoner, who wants to make up for one or more bad deed and usually follows a HeelFaceTurn, while MustMakeAmends usually tries to revert a specific bad deed, and can come from any type of tragic mistake. Contrast BuyThemOff.

Thankfully, she gets an [[EpiphanyTherapy epiphany]] about forgiveness and leadership, and desperately tries to undo her attempted murder in progress. Luckily for her, it works, and he seems to keep quiet about it apart from thanking her for not murdering him and acknowledging it can't have been an easy thing to do given his confession. Her mercy, much like that toward [[LordOfTheRings Gollum]], had a beneficial effect for many later on]].
** It happens earlier in the series when Helo shoots Athena on Caprica. She had fooled him into thinking she was Boomer/a human in an effort to get him to fall in love with her, in order to conceive a child. He later finds out she's a Cylon when he sees one of her sister/clones. She approaches him and tries to convince him she really does love him, and was genuinely trying to get them off the planet... and he shot her. He then realizes his love for her outweighed any distrust he had and bandaged her wound. Thankfully, she lived and they went on to form one of the few fireproof couples in the series. [[spoiler: He would later shoot her again, and this time kill her, so she could resurrect near their kidnapped daughter to rescue her. After she sold out the Earth and the League to her Thanagarian brethren, she discovered to her horror that they intended to destroy Earth in a bid to save Thanagar. Hawkgirl turned on them and provided the League with information crucial to defeating the Thanagarians. Ashamed by her prior actions, Hawkgirl resigned from the Justice League and secluded herself in Dr. Fate's household in order to think long and hard about what to do with the rest of her life. She came to the conclusion that resuming superheroism would be her best means of atoning for her wrongs and reconciling with the League. In a CrowningMomentOfHeartwarming, the League let her know that they voted to let her stay a Leaguer with Superman being the tiebreaker ("I believe in my friends").

* In ''HigurashiNoNakuKoroNi'' when [[spoiler: Shion Sonozaki]] kills [[spoiler:Satoko Hojo]] in the underground torture chamber, she believes at first that she's helping her [[spoiler: essentially dead boyfriend Satoshi Hojo]]. Then she tries to talk to his shadow that has appeared on the wall (she's gone nuts at this point), when she realizes the last words of him were: [[spoiler:Take care of my little sister [Satako] for me]]. She literally pisses in her pants at the realization, but realizes she's already crossed the MoralEventHorizon and now and then goes off to brutally murder more people.
